I think a lot of the really interesting books have been diverted to the Internet leaving a lot of cheap paperbacks behind. The owner is a little snippy and I really prefer not to deal with her. The others employees are nice. The book club I don’t understand at all since the selections are unreadable. For cheap paperbacks, this is the place to go. Anything really interesting has been removed for Internet sale.

Over all this book store is a GREAT spot for the community with fun activities and events that draw people in and a helpful staff. My one and only issue is that their book club never really changes its theme Yes okay the books change but the themes never do. They are always about women and struggle and over coming things or some type of issue be It with the main character mother, father, or being a black artist in the civil war or a woman who is fighting a mental illness. I joined the book club once to get myself out and possibly in a circle of people and to get me to read something I normally wouldn’t which it accomplished ans I did enjoy myself at the club. However month after month all the books just start to sound the same. Why can’t they not have a women space pirate or witch battling demons or maybe a male detective They have also recently started a murder mystery book club that I have yet to be able to attend but be warned even though it’s free and you can bring a snack and even though you say you are going to attend they will still ask you if you are going to buy the book because it is avaliable in the store.

Great neighborhood bookstore, helpful and friendly staff. I went in recently to buy a specific used book, asked where I could find it and was helped right away to find the last available copy. I paid a very reasonable price and now I have my vacation read. It’s nice that they participate in local activities in Hockessin as well. Check them out before shopping at the big names.

Wonderful small book store. Prices are great & staff is super friendly. They’re always happy to take my old paper backs and they’re great about calling me when a book I want is in. Always my first stop when in need of something new to read.

Love this book exchange store. Sorry that a reviewer had such a poor customer service experience. Every time I’ve gone, staff have helped me find what I need, or put me on a waiting list, or have held books I called about. This is NOT a regular book store so inventory is different than your large commercial stores. Call a head if there is something you’re looking for. And check to see what they are accepting before bringing books. Got to see it and roam around to fully appreciate.

Always find what I need and more here! Great book store. The staff is really nice too! Great place to go for summer reading books which can get pretty pricey! They have always been for the most part successful in having many summer reading books.

We were so excited to find this independent bookstore in our new backyard. Recently moved to Hockessin. We read the only review and sounded good. While unpacking we had about 200 gardening, cookbooks, and knitting hard back books that just couldn’t fit in our new digs. Someone told us about the Good Will drop off. But we thought maybe the Bookshelf would like them. Upon entering I waited patiently for the 2 women to finish their conversation. I said I had recently moved to the area and was on my way to the Good Will to drop off 6 boxes of books and thought that maybe they would like to sell them. One woman said in a curt voice«we don’t buy books». I said«i did not ask for payment that they are free for you to sell if you wanted them, and that I was donating them to Good Will and wanted to support my local shop if possible». She annoyingly responded«what kind of books are they?» I said«they are right there» pointing through the front glass to my tailgate that was open. She said«we don’t leave the store to look at books» and then she turned away. I was dumbfounded. What very poor customer service. It would have been so easy to say welcome to Hockessin, I am sorry we are not accepting books at this time, thank you so much for thinking of us. I went to the Good Will and dropped off the books. I have since spoken to several locals and they say what great potential this store has if the staff were not so angry and seemingly depressed. I will try one more visit maybe they were having a bad day

Tucked away in Hockessin lies the Hockessin Bookshelf. With the number of bookstores dwindling away, I always enjoy checking out a new bookstore. The Hockessin bookshelf is almost entirely used books, so they are much cheaper, AND you’re supporting a local business. They will also buy your books. Although pretty small in size, they pack in a lot of different books. They have a fiction, non-fiction and children’s section. They also have a *huge* romance novel section, if you’re into that. I have purchased a wide variety of different books here, and I keep coming back :)
