I called on a Sunday to see about a ring being resized, and Joyce was able to set up a time that day for me to take my ring to John. In about a half an hour John resized my ring, and I learned all about his amazing journey and business. It was truly a pleasure to sit and talk with him.

Working with John and Joyce to create a one-of-a-kind beautiful ring was an absolute pleasure. I felt like we were working with friends. I came to Jjanusz Custom Jewelry Design with an idea and John was able to bring it to life while Joyce was able to find ways to work within our budget. The idea was to meld two differnt cultural designs into a single design… a symbolic unity of 2 very different people :-) John started out by asking questions and offering ideas as a way of easing into a direction. The process was painless and the result was a ring that has meaning and can be passed on to our kids… an heirloom piece. Quite unique, unpretensious and beautiful. Joyce worked with us to keep the price in our wheelhouse by giving us options in design and also allowing us to bring in jewelry that we were no longer attached to so that the gold could be used… a way of keeping the price to reflect only the design and artistic craftmanship provided. We could not be more happy with this process. The process started with an initial consultation to allow us to express what we wanted and them to make sure they understood as well as to provide other ideas. The next step was for John to produce design drawings, meet with us to review and modify until we came to a consensus. After we commited to a design John worked creates the wax ring for casting. Considerable work, time and meetings have gone into the process thus far and it shows aswe can see this beautiful ring coming to life. Once the wax ring is aproved John goes into the process of producing the final product and getting it ready for the final meeting and approval. The result is a keepsake that you can’t by in your typical jewelry store. Gorgeous. If you want«old world» quality craftsmanship, original design, input into design and to work with the most pleasurable people i’ve had the pleasure to work with, you will do no better than this place.

My wife and I initially came to know John and Joyce after being referred by our insurance agent to get our ring appraised. During the meeting, they mentioned producing custom jewelry, so when it came time to start thinking about getting my wife a birthday present, I headed back to visit. The stone from my wife’s engagement ring had come loose and since been replaced by Kay’s under warranty, so taking the original diamond, I asked if it’d be possible to put it in a pendant. John is a wonderful artist and had some great ideas, Joyce was all too happy to get the business, so we began discussing. I should note that during this time, Joyce showed herself to be a bit unprofessional. She blamed John for missing stones and all but started an argument with him in front of me. I repeatedly felt I should excuse myself, but pressed on hoping to get the matter resolved and leave. I initially had a $ 500 piece in mind, they quoted me at $ 1370. Joyce stressed it probably wouldn’t go higher than that. Okay, so I had to spoil the surprise for my wife as it’d just become a massive financial undertaking to deliver this gift. I stressed to Joyce that cost was major factor and the budget would be a big concern. She was extremely cavalier towards my concerns and stressed repeatedly that the finished product would be beautiful, demonstrably ignoring the issues I was raising regarding the cost. That was my problem to worry about after all, not hers. I brought my wife in on the surprise given the cost and after a few notes John took into account, we agreed to place a deposit. When it came time to view the wax facsimile of the finished product, Joyce’s initial quote had swelled by another $ 330, bringing the total to $ 1700 for the piece. We balked at the cost and asked to have some time to discuss overnight, Joyce immediately responded asking, «What’s there to discuss?» and after stressing again that cost was a huge factor, she dismissively said, «Well, money is money.» After discussing the matter, my wife and I agreed to walk away. The increasing cost had already spiraled beyond what we’d been told initially and Joyce’s attitude only added insult to injury. I called to cancel the piece and asked for the diamond I had provided to be returned and a refund on the deposit since no finished product would be delivered. Joyce immediately changed gears on me and said that it was«their policy» to not do refunds on deposits. I kindly reminded her that it was never mentioned to me that the deposit wasn’t refundable, nor was it on the receipt we’d been given. She stressed that there’d be no refund despite never stating this prior, ignoring any attempt to discuss the matter further. We then agreed to meet so I was able to pick up the diamond. Showing up half an hour late to give me the diamond back, I again brought up the deposit being refunded. Her tone became aggressive that it was«their policy» not to refund deposits — conveniently taken via cash or check oddly enough — and just as quickly stressed how much she’d regret that we weren’t seeing the creation of the jewelry through to the end. About how beautiful the finished product would be. I took the diamond, told Joyce to take care and left. An unspoken, unwritten policy isn’t a policy. And it’s poor business to take a client’s money without ever making mention that the deposit was non-refundable. I understand custom jewelry is just that, custom. But for a business that so haphazardly demonstrates a concern for money costs itself any sort of repeat business, which assuredly they won’t be getting from us after this. The only reason I even gave a second star is the patience and artistic ability of John, who is an absolute pleasure to work with. But it seems Joyce is fiercely concerned with the business at the expense of all else, even keeping a customer. Should you work with them in the future, I cannot stress enough that get everything in writing and buyer beware.

I cannot say enough good things about this jeweler. I purchased an engagement ring and wedding ring for my wife from them. The diamonds are really high quality, and the rose gold used is amazing. They are not pushy, work within your budget, and will take their time to make sure you are 100% happy. I went to multiple chain stores and am happy I found Jjanusz. If you want a unique piece that holds its value and isn’t a cookie-cutter design you see in the stores, give them a chance.

They resized my engagement ring to my finger. I got to see how he did it in the office. I loved talking to them. Awesome people and business!

I brought some jewelry that I no longer wore to John and asked him to make some earrings for me. I had an idea of what I wanted, John listened and came up with a fabulous design. I wanted to mix a little yellow gold into the design with the white gold so I could wear it with anything. He created the most beautiful earrings using diamonds out of the jewelry I brought him. You want something different and absolutely gorgeous Jjanusz Custom Jewelry is the place to go.

I found this place by searching on Unilocal.I will have to admit that when I got to the building I was initially nervous. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t know anything about engagement rings, but John and Joyce took the time to educate me. The whole process took a long time, but that was because I was being very picky with the design and choosing the final diamond. They were very patient and let me take as long as I needed, which I did…7 months I took from the design to the ring and finally getting it made. Everything turned out great and my fiancée could not have been happier. She loves the one of a kind ring and we just recently came back to design her wedding band. They clean her engagement ring and resized it while we waited. Amazing work. I promise you that these guys will not disappoint.

I met Janusz & Joyce through a NW Suburban Unilocal Dinner hosted by Mike O. They are both very friendly and informative and Janusz is very passionate about designing jewelry. i had the opportunity to see them work in action recently… one of my siblings is about to pop the big question. I suggested meeting with Janusz so that he can get an idea of what the possibilities are, rather than buying something that someone else may already be wearing. The process is really neat. There is actually alot of math that goes into designing! I was so impressed that I ended up using them myself. My engagement ring and wedding ring were a size 4 ½ when they were given to me. I couldn’t wear them while I was pregnant… I gained a whopping 50lbs! I horrified my husband by wearing a janky ring that I bought off of Ebay he was really embarrassed. A few months after giving birth, I somehow managed to put my rings back on, but removing them for cleaning was painful and a chore. I was really scared to have them resized… it meant that I finally had to admit that I’m no longer tiny. He did such a beautiful job that I can not even see the seam where he had to cut them and the rings look brand new!

I found this«Gem» through a fellow Unilocaler. Joyce A runs this business, along with her fiancé John. John is the artist and what an artist he is! I was dazzled by a picture of an engagement ring that Joyce has posted on her profile(it’s the one where they matched the stone to the brides eye color). Let me give you an idea of the artistic ability here: John’s older pieces are on display in a museum in his homeland, Poland. Here in the U. S he has created magnificent pieces for Tiffany, The Drake and many other upscale Jewelers. Here’s the best part. They are a company with morals and ethics. The prices are fair and they do a bulk of charity work and donations to a variety of causes. If you’re looking for a unique, one of a kind piece of jewelry this is your place!

When I inherited my Grandmother’s wedding and engagement rings, I really wanted to create a new piece of jewelry, however, I didn’t know how to design the piece. Janusz drew up a lovely drawing of a pendant which would use the gold from the rings and the diamonds. He then suggested adding a new amethyst in the center of the pendant, surrounding this with my Grandmother’s diamonds. I said great, go ahead and make the pendant. It only took a few weeks and I had the pendant and it was gorgeous! Janusz added a very good quality gold chain. When I wear this necklace I always get compliments. It’s extra special to me because it reminds me of my Grandmother. It is the most beautiful piece of jewelry I own!
