Sears Child Development Center

Worst childcare ever! I have seen some things that I would think the teachers would get fired for doing, I saw toddlers put in the closet for time out, and another one hit because she was playing with her food and it all happened when I was there. There are better places for a child zero stars if I could!

Selecting a center for my daughter to attend starting January 5, 2015 was a daunting task… but with so many wonderful reviews of the Sears Child Development Center (Bright Horizons) from co-​workers who have one or more children there, I was confident when I set up my appointment for my husband and I to tour while I was still pregnant. Immediately, the staff was amazing! They were kind and caring, they were informative about the program, they emphasized security procedures (checking kids in and out especially), nutrition and the caregivers. They said I was welcome to come in during lunch to breastfeed her, and they have an open door policy so I could drop in at any time to visit and check in. After completing the tour, we knew the center was right for us (I’m also a Sears employee, so it is very convenient as it is right on campus).
On January 5^th, I dropped my baby off in the Infant room– her primary caregiver gave me a hug as I left since it was an emotional time. I appreciated the care for both me and my child! Each room as no more than 8 babies and there are two caregivers per room (a primary and secondary). Both teachers have been amazing with my daughter! They have really worked with her on taking her bottle (she isn’t so great with it), they alerted me immediately when they were concerned about her not feeling well, they give me great updates when I come in to feed her at lunch and pick her up in the evenings. Her primary, especially, has been so wonderful with her– you can tell that she truly loves caring for her, which has made me so comfortable leaving her with her every day. When she gives her a big grin as I hand her over every morning, I can leave without worrying about her!
We actually are moving out of state, so my daughter only attended for the month of January… but we are so sad to go! I wish she could stay with the center because other centers do not measure up. Their menu is stellar with many organic options and fantastic vegetarian options! I was concerned that if she was only enrolled for a month, her care might suffer or we may be treated differently by the staff, but they all have been 110% amazing the entire month. They have been accommodating, informative (as we’re trying to transfer to an out-​of-​state center), and caring. They took the time to learn about us– even after only a month, they recognize us by face and name, and most importantly they all know my daughter (and call her by name) even though she’s been with them such a short time.
I know some might discount my review since we have only been there a month and are moving, however I hope you don’t– the fact that they have been so wonderful and caring for a family who they knew would be leaving at the end of the month confirms for me that they would be equally if not more amazing for families who stay long term (and this is confirmed by all the wonderful feedback from co-​workers at Sears). It has been difficult to find a new daycare in our new state since we have such a wonderful center currently for comparison.
For my daughters caregivers– thank you so much for everything you did for my baby girl! I know she loved you both, and I can tell that you truly cared for her. Thank you for making this such an easy transition from maternity leave to daycare, and so difficult to leave!

Sears had a good idea — bring in one of the country’s best pre-​school franchises and open an onsite preschool for their employees. Unfortunately, as this franchise understands its captive market, the quality has fallen off from a customer service perspective.
We have a child enrolled. I’m using anonymity here because I even fear they will act retributively. The administration is as far from a high end, high tuition group of people as I could imagine. They can be rude, they are unaccommodating, they are simply not nice.
Sears can be a demanding employer and they should have instilled the importance of their employees to this subcontractor. It’s too bad Sears did not create some means to allow this subcontractor to be reviewed internally and anonymously by the employees that drop their kids off everyday. Perhaps the risk of a lost contract would motivate the administration to run this franchise like the others. Instead, this franchise gives the Bright Horizon organization a black eye. Our next child will not attend one.
