Not impressed. I live in the area and it always looked so beautiful on the outside. I took my mom to lunch and they DONOT offer a gluten free menu. When my mom ordered a salad and asked them to take off the croutons so it it gluten free, they still didn’t. Long wait. The Caprese salad on the salad menu was a plate with 4 slices of tomatoes and a few slices of mozzarella cheese. No lettuce or dressing.

We visited Café Madrid tonight, and both food and service were exceptional. Andrei was our waiter and he was very knowledgable about the menu and the wine selection. I love that they synchronized the order of the tapas which came out. We tried most of the tapas and a couple of entrees and each was delicious — can’t go wrong with this place. Double thumbs up!

Café Madrid has wonderful food, service, and atmosphere. The décor is far superior to all other restaurants in this area and adds tremendously to the home-like setting of the interior. Everyone in our group loved each dish and there was plenty of variety for the vegetarian, the carnivore, and those who do not eat pork. There is no chance that you will be disappointed.

Good Food, Good Service, Great time! Our party of 7 had a great time at Café Madrid. After perusing the menu we asked our server to «feed us.» Our server worked with Gabriel, the owner to plan our dinner. Over the next three hours, we were treated to a wide variety of tapas. We tried everything from blood sausage to tiny white eels sautéed in seasoned olive oil. Overall the food was good. Two highlights included the roasted Brussels sprouts, and a selection of imported Spanish meats and cheeses. We were disappointed in the paella, which was wet, had small pieces of overcooked meats, and no socarrat in any of the three portions we shared. But overall, good food, and great timing of subsequent courses. Our service was very good; we appreciated several new place settings as dinner progressed. The atmosphere was conducive to having fun, without being stuffy or too loud. Portions and pricing were fair. Our final food bill including an 18% gratuity was about $ 350.(We felt our server earned a much larger tip, which we added.) When we go again, we will advance order paella, request it be cooked and served in a traditional pan with socarrat. We will go again. Thanks to the staff at Café Madrid for a great time. Four solid stars.

Had lunch with a friend before Xmas. Both ordered daily special. The food was very good, the service was very good too. However, the bill came with incorrect charge. The regular price was charged instead of the price for special. Corrected without any problem though. Looking forward to go again.

I wasn’t expecting this to be such a nice restaurant. My friend and I went in and were completely caught off guard. That said, even though we were not dressed for the occasion, the servers were still nice. And the food was great. We had the Spanish tortilla and the paella. Always order the paella first because it takes so long.

Great Mediterranean food in a nice quiet setting. We had 9 in our party and they handled our group with no issues. I had the figs wrapped in bacon as asparagus to start, the bacony figs were incredible. My wife and I always strategically order to share. I ordered the beef tenderloin and she ordered the chicken Marsala. They were both incredible though my medium was a slightly over cooked. The sauce on the Marsala made the top ten list of things to enter my mouth. In fact I started dipping everything in it, tenderloin, potatoes, rice, a roll, my napkin. Great meal.

I’ve eaten at Café Madrid since their days on 39th and have enjoyed each time. Their tapas are consistently delicious and it is fun to see Gabriella and JC with their infectious way they run the restaurant. I don’t know if Franck is still in the kitchen, but last time I was there a month or so ago, the food did not disappoint. They are known for the paella, but one of my favorites has always been the osso buco.

I have been to Café Madrid about 5 times and have consistently enjoyed the experience. The wait staff was helpful and knowledgeable as well as attentive. They made some great Tapas suggestions and they never disappointed. The soups are something special btw! The lobster bisque, wow! The outdoor and indoor dining is wonderful and intimate. I happily recommend this unique experience.

I have to say this restaurant has done well with ambience and atmosphere. The food was good as was the cheese platter and service was wonderful. Each waiter was professional and energetic. The only reason this is rated a three star, and not a five star is that the food is not outstanding enough to justify the price.

My wife and I wanted to eat at a nice place so we chose Café Madrid. The place was rather nice and clean. Food was great, we had a the soup of the day which was delicious, we had the bacon shrimp tapa and the sausages with black mission fig sauce tapa as appetizers. For our entrees we had the duck and the sirloin which were both great. The only thing that was kinda disappointing was the fact that the paeya dish was not available, it seems that they only do this type of dish if you pre-order it. I was really excited to try their paeya since I have not had this dish in years and it was a bummer that they were not serving it the day we went. Other than that the place was excellent. My wife loved it. The price is high but for the food and experience that you get here, it is totally worth it. I recommend this place and will probably visit them again soon! Gracias Café Madrid!

Really not impressed with the place as a whole. Very expensive for what you get, which isn’t much. Let’s just say small portions with over inflated prices. Had the calamari appetizer, barely enough to feed two… though it was tasty. The salmon was just okay and definitely not worth the price they charge. The waiters seemed to be a little snooty. Definitely not going back!

It’s been at least year since the last time I was here, I was happy to see that the quality of service and food has not changed. We had the bull’s balls and spinach croquettes for appetizers and they were just delish! We also had the lamb shank, duck, Chilean sea bass, and paella, everything was just amazing. And the wine list did not disappoint.

Dinner service was lovely. Beef tenderloin was fantastic. Lobster bisque was spicier than normal; a nice twist. Ladyfinger dessert out of this world. Tapas options limited but executed perfectly. Definitely plan to return.

Ok, here’s the thing. I don’t write 3 star reviews, either for good restaurants having a good night, or for poor restaurants having what seems to be a better than average night. I don’t get paid to write reviews, so I believe in writing reviews to highlight great or totally crap experiences, ie reviews that I myself would really appreciate seeing AHEADOFTIME. So why 1 star for Cade Madrid? We used to eat at Café Madrid a lot for 10 years, mainly before they moved from their 39th Sth location. Back then I was a HUGE fan. Since they moved to Highland Dr I’ve eaten there 3 times, and each time has been worse THANTHETIMEBEFORE. Tonight my wife really wanted mussels, so I relented, and we ate there. We ordered two appetizers each. One, an octopus dish, supposedly octopus chunks grilled, supposedly amazing(their menu description), was just awful — Tough, flavorless and overly oily. The second, a shrimp dish served in a red pepper and garlic sauce was, well, just ok, but barely. We both ordered the mussels appetizer intending those to be our main course with a desert to follow, and WOW, they were just awful, I mean AWFUL. Worse, they came in EXACTLY the same mediocre sauce as the shrimp appetizer, except the mussels came out really fast from the kitchen and SUPER hot(microwaved?), and tasted like crap, I mean really like crap. At best they were maybe frozen, but they were uniformally tough, flavorless and in the case of a few rancid. Usually I send food back when a dish disappoints, but tonight all I wanted to do was get out of there. VERYSAD, WILLNEVER, EVERGOBACK.

What really makes Café Madrid so amazing is the atmosphere and the setting. It’s like a little home with a beautiful, cozy, romantic atmosphere. The booth we sat in had cute little toss pillows! The food wasn’t quite as good as we were expecting, but that’s only because we had heard constant rave reviews. The Brussels sprouts are a must! I don’t care if you like Brussels sprouts or not, they’re awesome. The chicken Marsala was also amazing. I even enjoyed the mushrooms and I hate mushrooms. The chicken was so tender and juicy and the sauce was impeccable. My husband got the pork tenderloin and just thought«mehhhh». I got a side of potatoes that came out as nothing special… Just simple, overpriced potato chips that didn’t complement my meal. This was my fault; I ordered them. But I wish I would’ve understood that they weren’t anything special. All in all, I enjoyed Café Madrid. They offer quite a different dining experience compared to most SLC restaurants.

Dined at Café Madrid mid July for my 25th birthday. Had high hopes, have heard nothing but great things. The sangria was probably the best I’ve ever had! The mussels were delicious!(I ended up having the remaining tomato sauce boxed up and used it with some penne. Yummy! Our entrees was the most disappointing which was a real let down. My boyfriend had the lamb, was tender but the sauce it was smothered in didn’t have great flavors. The entrée only came with the lamb so he had to order his rice separately. I ordered the snapper, again not very special though I did really enjoy the apricot rice. We had the flan for desert best in state hands down. Overall nice experience, beautiful décor and prompt service.

I am from Spain, and everytime I feel homesick, their paella makes me feel like home. It is expensive but because seafood in Utah is expensive everywhere. Good job guys!

I have driven by many times and have always wanted to try this place. Well, we finally were able to try it last night and boy was the food amazing!!! 5 stars to the chef. We started with the croquettas. Hot yummy balls of ham and cheese. I ordered the Pollo Marsala for my entrée and let me just say I have never had better. Hot buttery mushrooms saucy goodness. I literally licked the plate clean with my bread. Speaking of bread, it was perfectly cooked. crispy on the outside and hot and soft on the inside. The asparagus was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked as well. We splurged and ordered dessert which was also top notch. I had the crème Brule. spot on. fine dining at its best. yummy. I am craving it now and would go back 100 times. The service was great the food was greatest.

The food was pretty good, the atmosphere was well above average, and the service was okay, but the portion sizes were a bit on the skimpy side and the menu is somewhat over-priced. I should go back to try more of their menu(tasted the meat sampling appetizer, seafood-stuffed peppers, pork loin, and the sea bass), but the value-to-price ratio may delay that for some time. Don’t get me wrong, the meal wasn’t bad… it’s just that if I’m going to spend well over $ 100 on dinner for two(and just two courses), I can think of a number of other restaurants in the area I’d rather go to.

Horrible. Heads up, We had a dinner today in this restaurant and was one of the worst experiences ever. Expensive, very pricely, they served the food at the same time even we requested not to do it. The«paella» was really small, not even close to one of the real spanish paellas, with tomato sauce(paellas don’t have tomato sauce!!!) As Spaniard, I don’t recommend this place. We went 3 spaniards from Pamplona, Madrid and Soria and food wasnt even close to our country. If you want to eat real spanish food, don’t go to this place. Chef, my advise, check it out your kitchen, it’s burning down.

Everything was very good. My favorite was the Gazpacho, and the zucchini they served as a side with the Filo Salmon(special). Brussel sprouts was one of the nightly specials. Seems a little early in August, but maybe they’re coming from CA? If so, too bad. Brussel sprouts are SO good from this area if they just would have waited a few weeks. Copa dessert was excellent. But again, I wish they’d use produce that is in season. It came with strawberries, but peaches, blueberries or black berries are so much better this time of year. Service was excellent. They have outdoor seating, but it wasn’t open last night. I’d like to sit out there next time.
