Copper Kitchen: It’s like Copper Onion for people who’d rather drive an extra 20 minutes than wait an hour for a table. I was here with my husband and my in-laws recently celebrating my sister-in-law’s birthday. She wanted Copper Onion. There was no way they were going to have room for all of us with only a few hours of notice. So I was all, «Hey, you know they opened another restaurant in Holladay, right?» Did they have room for us? Of course they did. So we made the drive down to southern Utah. It’s in a fancy shopping center type area that I didn’t know exists, along with Caputos and other hip, downtown things getting second locations in the suburbs. The interior was classy, more modern than the Copper Onion, but still had an old school feel. It was also a calmer place, less hustle-bustle(and a lot fewer people in there, but you know). The menu is certainly not identical to the sister restaurant, but you can very much tell it’s done by the same people. People had burgers and pastas and steaks and so on, and we were all very happy. So now we know: if we want Copper Onion style in a more relaxed atmosphere, we just have to drive a little bit. Good to know.

I went here with a few of my friends for brunch over the weekend. I’d read lots of glowing reviews, so I was pretty excited to(hopefully) find a new brunch place to fill the hole that Wild Grape’s closing left in my heart. I had made a reservation ahead of time using Open Table, it was super easy and the restaurant even called a day ahead of time to make sure I was coming. A+ for that! The location is pretty cool, it is in a newer building and very easy to find. The place feels small but not crowded and I really appreciated the interior design. Our waitress was friendly, but I got the distinct impression that she was newer and a little unsure of what she was doing. We had to ask for a drink menu and it took about half an hour for drinks to be served to everyone at the table. Food was a little slow, but we were chatty and didn’t really notice the delay. All of the food looked really good. Although both orders of pancakes were wrong(the special bacon pancakes instead of regular) my friends ate them without complaint. I ordered the corned beef hash and while the flavors were good, the dish was literally pooling with oil. I could have easily poured a ¼ cup of oil from the plate. Without the stumbles in both the service and the food, I could have easily given this place a 5-star rating. But for now it sits around 3 ½ for me. I’m definitely willing to go back and hopefully have a better experience!

Went here for a sisters birthday brunch and we’re not disappointed! The décor is very stylish and fun and the food was all exceptional! We loved the eggs Benedict and the French toast with pear compote. The only thing we were disappointed by was that the brûlée’ grapefruit was served with small cocktail forks that made it impossible to eat. Please invest in some grapefruit spoons if you’re going to serve grapefruit :). Other than that is was the perfect birthday brunch!

For those of you keeping track at home, Copper Kitchen is one of(currently) three Ryan Lowder restaurant concepts around SLC. Copper Onion, Copper Common, and now this nifty neighborhood spot make up mighty power in his ever-growing Copper Empire. As many reading this may not have been to the other restaurants, I’ll only draw a quick comparison, but let the merits of this restaurant stand on their own. Copper Onion is more hustle-and-bustle, located right there on Broadway in downtown SLC, next to the theater, with lots going on. Copper Common is a different concept: they aim to be more of and aperetif/digestif kind of spot, with craft cocktails and small bites to enjoy before or after a show/movie/date/dinner/etc. That leaves Copper Kitchen, which certainly carries with it that same sense of culinary craftsmanship and heritage, but calms things down just a bit for the burbs. Located in Holladay in a new development, you could never accuse it of being a strip mall joint, but it does feature covered and uncovered parking in spades behind the development. It’s still stylish but reserved in its décor(they seem to prefer a «less is more» aesthetic) and you can comfortable come in more relaxed attire, or still dress up a bit and not feel out of place. The menu features smaller plates, sides, and some traditional entrees. I knew going in I wanted to get the burger, and it’s a formidable hamburger indeed. If you want something a little more fancy, however, you’ve got those options. Prices for entrees start in the mid teens or so, and go up to around 30. Some of the starters or small plates reach the mid teens, but the most expensive are for dishes featuring grilled octopus or other harder to find items. They’re big fans of the pig in the Copper Empire – they’ve been heavily involved in the vertical food supply chain with local pig peeps – so expect a wide range of pork products from chops, belly, bacon and more. I ordered the grilled cabbage with my burger(I like cabbage, people, so sue me) and also enjoyed the fries. They have a strong cocktail and drink menu, so lovers of a good beverage might want to drop in as well. Copper Kitchen hasn’t been as noisy as its copper cousins, but it’s been building a nice burn and steady following. They seem to be into the fine grit papers now, polishing everything up, and it’s a really great addition to this neighborhood and a worthy addition to the Copper heritage.

So delicious. Décor was amazing. Nothing more I can say. Okay well there usually is more so here I go! Jeffrey and I started out with the sweet potato dumplings which were oh so good and the sauce with the pomegranates on them was amazing. Just to die for. I would love to just swim in a pool with them. Or eat them every night! Then I had the fideos. I studied abroad in Spain and it brought me right back there. The deliciously crispy toasted noodles with the delicious rock shrimp, spicy chorizo and roasted garlic aoli to even out the spiciness. It was amazingly perfect and I could have eaten more but it was probably better that I did not. I also had a couple of Jeffrey’s fries which was delicious. They put horseradish in their fry sauce which I enjoyed but Jeffrey did not. I guess not everyone can love it! The décor is super modern and very open. Wooden tables and wonderful food. Where could you go wrong? Would I go there again? Oh yeah it was amazing and delicious and I am very happy. Also parking around there is super easy which is one of my favorite things!

Such an awesome little place. Been here a few times now and always find something different on the menu to enjoy and appreciate it a bit more each time. Just wanted to add here that the service is impeccable. You don’t even notice the servers filling up water glasses. They are there when you need something but so unassuming. If you haven’t tried CK yet, you should! The beet/avo salad, steak frites and peas and pancetta pasta have been our favs.

The beef bourguignon at Copper Kitchen may have been the best meal I had in 2015. Correction: It DEFINITELY was the best meal I had in 2015. I still have warm, fuzzy feelings about it. Bless you, Copper Kitchen! Love the location in the newly renovated downtown Holladay — cute, upscale little neighborhood and a welcome respite from the busy-ness of downtown SLC. The designated lot behind was full so we parked on the street but we were seated promptly on a weeknight. Solid service from our server — not overly friendly or chatty(which is what I prefer) and attentive and professional. Cool industrial, upscale-bistro vibe — a more grown-up version of Copper Onion’s dining room. We ordered the garlic bread with shaved pecorino as a starter, which was simple — crispy and delicious. My vegetarian friend ordered the arugula pesto — house tagliatelle, baby arugula, pine nuts, grana padano — and devoured the whole thing. And the beef bourguignon. Oh, my. Presentation was pretty — it arrived deconstructed, to be tossed gently together. Perfectly cooked, house-made, thick pappardelle. Lovely rich, classic flavors of wine and mushrooms with a welcome kick of creamy mustard in the traditional sauce. Generous chunks of tender pork belly, which are normally not my style but fit this dish perfectly. It was comforting but not overly heavy, silky and fully-dimensioned like you always imagine bourguignon to be. My only critique was the arrival of our appetizer at the same time as our food. Just an oversight, but just the teeniest bit disappointing as this looked to be the best dining experience in Salt Lake that I’ve had in awhile. The pacing of the rest of the meal was good, if a little rushed, but I can overlook all of that because of the quality execution of our dinners. One of my last memorable meals was the burger at Copper Onion — how can a burger be so memorable? Go try theirs and find out — so I was really looking forward to what Copper Kitchen would deliver, and they have exceeded my expectations once again. Looking forward to returning!

This place was super busy today, the fullest I have seen it since its opening. Luckily the food came out timely and the taste was superb as usual. Went with the special today — had the tomato soup and steak sandwich with a marrow aioli and a salad. To end the meal had a s’more with ginger cookie, house made marshmallow and chocolate pudding. It was so delicious.

I came to Copper Kitchen for a birthday brunch with girlfriends on a Saturday morning. I ordered their smoked salmon salad. It came with asparagus, a soft boiled egg, and the contents were drenched in olive oil and sea salt. It was delicious and I wish it was a meal instead of an appetizer on their menu. Also, they ran only a teeny bit late with my friends’ plate and not only apologized but brought out their lemon Panna Cotta for the whole group to enjoy as their mea culpa. It was over the top service that I did not expect considering they were only a few minutes late with the plate earlier but impressive and made us all feel like special guests. It’s a bit far from where I live but because they’re so extraordinary, I’ll happily go out of my way to eat here again.
