This is my first time trying this place. I ate the(oyster) tako«octopus» in spanish ‘Pulpo’. They let you try the variety of raw and cooked that they offer, for me that is a plus. This is not my first time trying pulpo because I’m from a island too Puerto Rico and there pulpo is common plate in our sea food menu plate. But let me tell you from this experience that pulpo was good, flavorful, easy to eat. It was soft and easy to chew. If you eat the correct cooked pulpo you know what that mean. The flavor is different from what I’m used to. But is good really good. I order the big bowl and split it with my husband. Next time that size is for me only because it was so good that I want it all for myself. I ask for a request and the answer was better than I expected; I when with my daughter too so I ask if I can have the pulpo apart because and want to feed her rice. The answer was I can give you a small bowl of rice for her. That is not in the menu but I highly appreciate it. Also the rice there is amazing! My experience in the local was amazing. Good music. They have high chairs in good conditions. The place was clean. I recommend it! I want to come back! Thanks for your good service.

Came here for late lunch. Our sister recommended this place to us. Not disappoint. They have different variety of poke you can choose from. Family own restaurant. Friendly owner. Great food. We will come back for sure.

Yes, the quality and flavor of every fish is excellent — every other reviewer already established that. So let’s just chat about the rice. These guys use long-grain jasmine rice, and it tastes fresh, and it’s made really well. We go out all over town to Asian restaurants, and even some of the most-authentic Chinese food comes with crappy short-grain dry white rice. Or even nice long-grain rice but it’s been sitting on a burner and it’s dry and crispy. But the Poke Shack is using some seriously high-quality rice and they’re cooking it really well. Most importantly, it tastes like it just barely finished cooking. If they put that kind of attention into their rice, you know everything else is way above par. A++ 10⁄10 love this place.

Always leave satisfied and happy after eating at the laid back Poke Shack. It’s not quite Kauai, but we really like it, and the servers are super kind and customer oriented. Just off the Highland Drive parking lot for @The Store” in Holladay.

Pretty good quality of fish for Utah. Was really tasty and they let you try it before you select the kind of flavors you want. If you’re a big eater, the small will not be enough for you.

I love this place! My partner doesn’t really care for raw fish, and I had an afternoon free, so I thought I’d give it a try. I was not disappointed! I haven’t had ahi this good since I had the Spicy Ahi Tartare at the buffet at Bellagio in Las Vegas, 3 years ago. I had the spicy ahi, and the shogu ahi, both wonderful. The shogu ahi is so good, next time I’ll order it by the pound.($ 19.95/lb, but worth it!) Give this a try if you like sushi, and want to take it to the next level!

Laid back Poke is a great little addition to Utah. Poke is a staple in Hawaii where it’s fresh and plentiful. I’m glad we have a poke shack that can hold you over until you can go back to the real islands. It also gives Utahans a chance to try something new and adventurous. The décor is simple and the poke is good enough remind you of walking the streets of Waikiki. We did the 2 large bowels 14.95 each that will get you rice, plus 3 flavors of seasoned tuna. We had spicy, ginger and calamari on top of white rice. We probably would’ve rated this place a 5 but we go frequent the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Oahu almost every year so the expectations are unfairly higher!

So good… I had the Shoyu Ahi, Oyster Salmon and spicy shrimp with brown rice and cabbage for lunch. It was so good I am tempted to go back for dinner! Absolutely fresh. Every bite was amazing!

Laid Back Poke Shack is near my work, so I’ve been a handful of times. I’ve always been satisfied. Raw seafood, in Utah, is risky business. But LBPS rocks the house. All you have to do is smell. And what your proboscis will tell you about Laid Back Poke Shack is that everything is fresh, and everything is good. I’ve tried the tuna, the salmon, the octopus, and I like all of it. It is a drab atmosphere. But the solid raw fish offerings, for what I feel is a fair price, are uniformly gratifying.

LBPS is still delicious… After my poke-addiction slowed down with the changing of the seasons, I ventured into LBPS just last week to see if they were as comforting in the winter weather as a bowl of cold poke is refreshing in the heat of summer. I am pleased to say that, yes, they are! Even better, they’re expanded the menu beyond my summer staples. Last time I was there, I tried the ahi in coconut milk and was knocked out by the delightful flavor.

This was my very first«Poke» experience. Thanks to the invite from my fellow SLC Unilocalers, I got to try this Hawaiian gem out. I ended up getting the Spicy Ahi with cabbage, and brown rice. The small bowl was the perfect size for me. The Ahi tasted extremely fresh and the combination of the siracha mayo and the cabbage was just perfect. The owner was also very attentive, and you can tell she keeps an eye on her regular customers. The price was a bit higher than I expected but well worth it for the quality.

A huge pile of raw fish? Yep. Great flavors too. So Poke is a new thing to Utah. A long time Hawaiian tradition. Likely if you are reading this review you know what Poke is. So lets move on. This place is super simple. Its a counter with a bunch of different types of fish. Some simple seating options. And that’s basically it. The owner is super nice and you can sample anything before you decide on it so you know you’re getting what you want. Its all great so you can’t go wrong. You won’t like this place if you don’t like raw fish. If you do then you will. Simple as that.

Best poke in salt lake by far! I would say it’s even better than most of the places in Hawaii. I got the Kalua pig and cabbage with the spice ginger ahi poke. The poke is cut to perfection. I didn’t get one veiny piece. Also I would say their musubi is the best I have had in salt lake as well. The only thing I would change is one layer of rice on the musubi instead of two. That’s just a personal preference though. All and all I had a great experience here!

Aloha Laid Back Poke Shack! What a mouthful to say, and the name did not even make sense to me at first until I learned that poke(pronounced poh-KAY) is the Hawaiian verb for ‘to slice or cut into cubes’. Ok so this place serves Hawaiian-style bowl of rice with sliced or cubed stuff on top. That can be seafood or meat. For you first-timers, they have the poke for dummies instruction on the wall. First, you decide the bowl size — Small or Regular(which I later learned small bowl portion is larger then what it seemed). Then you select the rice(white or brown), whether you want shredded cabbage or not and finally pick your poke. And for me, that was the most difficult part. I stood there staring at those delicious looking poke samples as if choosing which colored wires to cut. Fortunately the owner was there behind the counter, patiently explaining all questions I had and giving us samples to try. That helped a lot.
I ended up with regular white rice with spicy ahi, kimchi tako and taegu(which is Korean seasoned cod fish). The ahi fish tastes fresh, which is saying a lot in Utah. Kimchi tako, or octopus is very good and Taegu gives a nice sweet and chewy companion to the bowl. One bowl is enough to fill me up, but out of curiosity, I also tried another bowl with Spicy Ginger Ahi and Snow Crab. I don’t really notice the ginger but I really like the Snow Crab. I wanted Salmon but I heard it is hard to get Salmon if you come for dinner on weekends. Need to try that on weekdays. The place is clean and still looks shiny and new. It was mostly empty when I reached there but slowly filling up. The owner is all smile and polite. I don’t feel the price is expensive for the quality of food that we get. The location is a bit out of the way for me and they close early at 8pm even on Fri/Sat, so I need to rush there fighting the rush hour after work but hey, it’s well worth the effort. I even met my co-worker who lives in Lehi there, so it’s not only me. This place is awesome. Stamped Approved. .

My friend told me about this place and I had to try it esp how I love fish. When first coming into this place you realize it isn’t your typical restaurant and also the environment is totally different. I felt like I went to a tropical island about to enjoy a new style of food. So ordering your food here is basic. You chose your rice, option for lettuce or not, and then your poke(the kind of meat you want). The sizes are small and regular, but don’t let the size fool you, there is a lot of food in a small and more in the regular. Only different is that a small you only get two choice of poke while the regular you get three. You also get to try the poke before getting it. I went with a regular and got a mix of brown and white rice(because they ran out of brown), lettuce, spicy ahi, spicy crab with avocado, and seaweed. It was super delicious. I would totally recommend this place. Everyone is very friendly. But the only thing is that they run out of ingredients quickly. I really wanted to try the salmon.
