Yes, buying ski boots at the Sport Loft takes a long time. Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, it’s worth it. Sure, you can buy your boots cheaper on the web, and there’s a tiny chance you could be lucky and they’d fit. I didn’t want to chance pain or a less precise fit: I wanted to do it right. It took about three straight hours with Earl, which covered all the measurements you can think of and more, plus the molding of the liners, custom orthotics and installing boot heaters(in for a penny…) They also adjusted my skis’ bindings when we were done with the boots. The very next day I had one of my best ski days ever. My boots and skis were working as a unit, and I was able to charge down in all kinds of terrain with no hesitation. The boots are 90% there and I only need to go back for some minor tweaks, which I’ll do on my next trip to Utah. If you’re serious about skiing(and can afford that bill) do yourself a favor and visit those guys.

No reason to go on an on. They are the best at what they do. Period. add to that the level of interaction and«customer service» and you’ve truly got a unique experience rare to find in the business world these days. Jeremy, Earl and the crew nail it.

Do not come here if you just want the cheapest ski boot. Do not come here if you just want to try on a few pairs, see what is comfortable, and buy it. If you are a serious skier and want boots that fit better than anything you have ever experienced, then The Sport Loft is for you. Seriously…I know you THINK you have had a proper boot fitting in the past. I know I did! And I was very, very wrong. You have NEVER had a boot fitting like this. I guarantee it. And it takes a while because they measure little bits of your foot that you didn’t even know you had. And I am writing this as a retired ski patroller who has spent a lot of time in ski boots. I went in figuring I would just try on a few pairs of boots and then buy online over the summer. I was informed that the fitting would be $ 35(which would be deducted from a boot purchase) and thought, «Um, OK.» And then the fitting took an hour. Earl, the owner, got to know the placement of every little bone in each foot, where the rest of my leg bones lined up, and we talked in detail about how I ski. From the questions he asked me about my skiing, it was like we had been ski buddies for years! And then we tried on ONE pair of boots. Based on the extensive measurements of my feet and legs, there was no need to try on any more. Earl understands how boots fit based on your measurements and knows exactly what to recommend. There was no need to try on anything else! And honestly, had I just gone out on my own to try on boots with Earl, I never would have tried these boots on nor would I have had a fit like these. And the boots were AMAZING. I left really seriously regretting that I did not buy the boots then. If I just went and bought them online, we would not be able to have the customized fit that I knew Earl could do. So I went back and bought the boots. They fit me for custom orthotics(and no, they are NOT a gimmick!) and custom heat molded the liner to my foot. That process took about 1.5 hours. So after a total of 2.5 hours, I left with the best fitting boot I have ever in my 34 years of skiing had. The proof was in the pudding though. I took them out the very next day. And let’s just say that the clouds parted and the angels started singing! I have never had a boot fit so great. While it was not cheap, it was worth absolutely every penny and the 2.5 hours I spent with Earl. So if you are a serious skier, you should never go anywhere else. I will specifically fly to SLC for future boot purchases. I am a customer for life!

I was referred to this shop via the Fly Low website, as one of the few SLC shops offering this gear. It was a bit out of the way, not near the ski resorts, but decided to check it out. Glad I did. I called ahead to confirm they had the style and size of ski pant I wanted, and after a nice chat and confirmation of pants in stock, I headed to the store. Very small. Very personal service. Limited selection of skiwear but all of very high quality. Earl was great in offering comments and guidance, and recommended some great Kjus pants when the Flylow pants didn’t suit me. I went back for ski boot guidance a week later. He was able to replace the heels on my very old boots, and he did a very thorough fit assessment, at my request, on new boots. I will likely come back next season for new boots! Not a cheap option for garments or equipment, but great service, and high quality merchandise make it a great place for ski clothing or equipment. Only the best brands, personally vetted by earl and family, make it into his shop.

Best bootfitters in town. This is not an inexpensive place to go, but it is the place to make sure that your ski boots are properly sized, adjusted & fit, and that your skis are properly tuned to make your skiing experience everything it should be. Earl & Jeremy Middlemass(father & son) are completely focused on service, and doing the job right. It’s not about getting you in the door, taking your money, and walking you out the door. This is the type of shop that puts the emphasis on turning people into clients, not customers. Ski-tunes are still done the old-fashioned way, by hand, but their bootfitting process has incorporated a number of both modern and old-fashioned techniques to achieve the perfect fit.
