It was a very busy weekend when we stayed here. Saugatuck was hosting Venetian night and there were no hotels for miles. So I am glad we were able to snag one of the last rooms available here. However, we paid over one hundred bucks and I do think they need to try harder to get this hotel up to date. The keys to our room said Super 8 on them so I think this was a new ownership. The young man at the front desk was nice, the girl a bit cool. Our room was musty however on a higher floor we did have a screened in window which made our sleep rather refreshing, except for the street noise, and the hotel can’t control that. What they can control are the towels that feel like sandpaper and the bathroom sink in our room that had a leak in the lower pipe so we got our legs sprayed everytime we washed our hands. We did mention this to the girl in front and she did not seem surprised. The scrawny bar soap and foil packaged shampoo made it easy for us to be good and not stuff extras into our suitcase. Pillows and bed were good enough, and my friend agreed it was clean. All in all it was ok(I guess) for one night in a pinch.

This place is pretty disappointing. I’m glad we’re only here for one night. Everything is below basic; workable but not average. My biggest gripe is the price. I paid $ 100 per night for this room. It should be priced below $ 50 at these standards. If you get a deal for $ 50 or less, you MAY want to consider it. If not, steer away. Far away.

This place IS cheap. the price will lure you in if you’re looking to make a quick getaway to Holland. However, even considering the fact that this place is $ 50 cheaper than the next cheapest hotel in Holland, I highly advise that you save up the extra money and«splurge» on what will seem like a high-end hotel compared to this one. We booked this hotel via Priceline last-minute after deciding to stay an extra night and finding out that our original hotel in Holland was then sold-out. The instant after pulling up was one that brought on feelings of regret then curiosity to see if this hotel could somehow defy aesthetic expectations. When you walk in, you will quite honestly get a sense of what regret smells like. the hotel entryway and lobby have a musty smell, and that continues up to the rooms.(If you end up here and want to prove this right, just stay in the hotel for a few minutes then walk out to fresh air– the difference is remarkable) The room has the appeal of a garage sale– you could see the stuff once(cheaply) fitting in okay, but now it looks outdated and avoidable. I was extremely proud of myself for making the decision to bring a travel pack of Wet Ones wipes and boy did they come in handy. I wiped everything we would possibly touch, twice-over. The shower smelled HEAVILY(cannot stress this enough) of mildew, to the point where it wafted and stayed on you when you walked too close. Another reviewer gave the advice to bring your own shampoo and conditioner, which I do back unless you want to use squeeze packets of made-in-China stuff, however if you can withstand the mildew smell to even make it into the shower I commend you. What a surprise here– the mattress felt as if it were used in a college dorm room for twenty years, then passed down to the hotel. At this point, the extra $ 50 was well-justified for a better mattress, not to mention cleaner, updated amenities. Didn’t do the«continental breakfast,» and after seeing and experiencing the hotel beyond that aspect, I had no desire to try it. Our last encounter with staff here was at check-out, and we were greeted by the front desk clerk with a chin nod and a stare– which I guess translates to «State your purpose and leave. as quickly as possible.» Lesson learned here: If the price is insanely low. it’s like that for a reason. If all hotels beyond this one are near or completely sold-out– sleep in your car.

As an inexpensive(relatively) place to sleep only as you visit Holland, Grand Haven, etc. this place works. If you keep your expectations low, you won’t be disappointed! The décor is incredibly old and dated, the ‘continental breakfast’ is cereal and coffee, it’s not the cleanest place around, and bring your own shampoo and conditioner. Close to downtown Holland and much cheaper than other places in the area.
