My sister and I spent a long weekend in Saugatuck, but we stopped in Holland before heading there, to explore the shops and have lunch. I’d been through years ago, in college, but don’t remember much about it back then. Now, it’s a really cute town, and the main shopping area was filled with great little independent shops. We stopped in at The Blackbird, and were immediately reminded of one of our favorite places, Cedarburg, WI, where the town’s old woolen mill was turned into cute little shops. It even smelled like the Cedarburg shops(they sell yummy smelling candles at the Blackbird)! In any case, the shop may not be for everyone, but my sister and I love all things bird, and there were a lot of bird themed items, from figurines to useful things like hooks and hanging racks, etc. They had some really nice area rugs and a huge variety of artwork, most with more«country» inspired themes, so again, it may not be to everyone’s taste, but I’m pretty eclectic, and love antiques and sleek modern things. If my boyfriend hadn’t put a moratorium on the number of tchotchkes I can bring into the house, I’d have gone to town shopping! Instead, I only purchased the cutest children’s book for the children of a friend(Memoirs of a Hamster), and a Warren Kimble pillow with a rabbit on it, for a bunny loving friend’s upcoming birthday. If I’m ever in Holland again, I will definitely stop in to the Blackbird, and hopefully buy something wonderful for myself!
