I want to preface this by saying that I haven’t had my hair straightened in the nearly six years that I went natural, and I deeply regret getting it done. The service was excellent. I was referred to go see Millie and no one else. I was assured that my hair would revert. I liked the style. My only two complaints were that someone else decided she was going to work on the other side of my head, and using too much heat. Having two hot blow dryers on my head was a serious no no! I also felt uncomfortable with the number of passes they used with the flat iron. The result was beautiful, but a week later when I washed it, I have pieces of hair that are straight or super loose. I’m not surprised that this is mainly on the side where the other women did it. While they did a great job, I will never go back there again(or get my hair straightened, for hat matter).

This salon is not good with hair care. My hair gets damaged every time I come here. This place is only good for last minute or last resort. Oh and this one time the lady that was working here open the door and it was roaches everywhere lol eewww

I’ve only been to Belki’s once, but boy did it leave an impression! She washed and cut my hair in under 30 minutes, and did a great job! Belki clearly understands curly hair and perfectly layered and trimmed my crazy mane to perfection. Not only that, after the cut, my hair grew so much! Not sure if it was the moon cycle or just the fact that she knew exactly what my hair needed, but it really is the longest it’s ever been. I will be returning this week hopefully for a cut!

I am a long time customer of Millie’s. I will follow her to the ends of the earth and now she is working out of Belkis. If you want great hair care see Millie!

One of the few salons my daughter and I come to where I don’t have to worry about heat damage. We are both natural and I have to say that Belkis knows how to work with natural hair. Very good experience every time!

I have been coming here for the past three months and can honestly say that I have found a new spot for my hair!!! My hairdresser Millie is amazing! The only person that is allowed to cut my hair!

I went to Belkis for the first time yesterday and I loved it. The salon was modern, spacious and clean. Every one was professional and friendly. I loved the no lye perm she used that did not burn at all and my hair was straight and bouncy. Overall the service, the products and the staff were great. This is the salon I will be going to from now on.

Where do I even begin… sad sad story. Well my first visit to Belkis was a great experience because I had a weave and she washed and straightened it really nice. I told her I had natural hair under the extensions and would love to come back and have it straightened. She said she specializes in natural hair. Needless to say, I went back and she washed my hair, conditioned, washed it again, conditioned it for the last time(Prior to this I expressed to her that my hair was natural and could not take chemicals). The owner said«I know these conditioners just soften». After she finished she gave me a blow out, flat ironed, then one last blow. My head started shedding ABUNDENTLY a week later, it would not go back to it’s natural state. I have 4C hair which has always been very thick. Needless to say 2 months later it’s still straight, broken off all over and thinner than ever. My new beautician is 99% sure the conditioners Belkis used had straightening chemicals in it. She said there are liquid straighteners all over and there is no reason why my hair should of fell out after that one visit to the salon. The worst day of my life. 2 days ago I big chopped so my hair is gone, and I pray will grow back in healthy. I learned a valuable lesson.

I used to come to Belkis all the time for YEARS. I got a touch up perm or wash and set when i got here. Originally, I thought this was good because a friend suggested it. But over the years, they stopped caring about my hair — or maybe they never cared. My touch ups became full-head perms, even though my hair was ALREADY permed. Belkis claimed she needed to perm the whole thing for it to be healthy — not sure what logic that is. Anyway, over the years my hair did not grow at all — and if it did, they made sure to «trim»(cut) it. Once an older woman working there was trimming my hair and when she was done she was blowing it out, and didn’t like how one piece was landing and just took out the scissors and cut a piece off so quick i almost didnt know what happened. I was mortified. and the prices got more and more expensive, but the quality of doing hair did not get better. When i was a freshman in high school I was paying $ 45 for a touch up — 50 if i trimmed. The summer before senior year Belkis told me and i quote: «Just give me 80 mami, i’ll give you a break today» They are ruthless and they steal your money and their attitudes are horrible. They will be so quick to tell you whats wrong with your hair — but will do NOTHING to help treat it.

This was the first hair salon I’ve been to. I got a texturizer, as I was just about to enter high school in a posh town in Jersey. Belkis was actually the only one there, and the one who did my hair. I’d say that if you don’t have Belkis, your hair won’t turn out so well. Since they were my first salon, I was naturally attached, but never got a texturizer again, only wash and sets. The wash is pretty good, but one time I got this new worker who had been there for a few weeks, and she had difficulty with my hair. I’ve been natural since I grew out my texturizer. My hair length is about 15 – 16 inches, I have thick, wavy/curly hair that tends to knot up. My hair type is a mixture of 4a and 3c. As far as putting on the rollers, it’s not always persistent, and my hair sometimes comes out worse than other times after the dryer. My mother insists that I only get my roots blow-dried, and I always liked it at the salon naturally. But when I was in normal-land where Garnier commercials aren’t around every corner, my hair cooled down and become thicker and knotty at the ends. My hair doesn’t last long in that state after I get it done. I didn’t realize these petty flaws until I started doing my own hair that minimized product, heat, and damage. My hair grew 3 inches in 3 – 4 months with my own love and care, but I’ve been going to her nearly every 2 weeks for the past 4 years, and I never saw any signs of strength or growth in my hair, which I then realized was ridiculous. Also, it’s like as if they don’t know their prices, because on and off they either charge me $ 25 or $ 30 for the same treatment every time. And one last thing, they support this Italian hair care brand called«Baute ‘Soffici Capelli’ «that is worth $ 80 for a smaller package and $ 160 for the larger. My mother bought the larger one because they really knew how to market towards their regular customers. They swore up and down that these products were to die for. They’re not. And I remember for a period of time when they first brought it out, that they were selling it like water! They also had t-shirts that said the brand name and phrase in the back. I believe that they paid a small price or were paid a price to advertise this brand that has no English or details of the product besides ingredients, if you’re lucky on some products. Overall, I would not necessarily suggest this hair salon, unless you’re possibly in the neighborhood and want a wash and set. Take note that I didn’t say a ‘quick’ wash and set, as the average duration at this salon on a weekend is 2 – 3 hours.

This has got to be one of the worst salons that I have ever been to. When I arrived and took my natural hair out of its bun, the lady said to me, «is that real?» I said«excuse me?!» She said is that your hair? I decided not to tutor her on customer service and kindly replied yes. I must say the shampoo was awesome, but that is about the only thing that is good about the salon, which is why they received one star. I was placed under a dryer that was smushed in a corner, with a towel across my head that smelled like a mixture of Monfongo and butt cheeks. I asked for another towel but it smelled the same. There was another lady that checked on my hair and she was rough as hell. I gave her the most evil look I can think of but again kept my mouth quiet. This same lady decided to take my hair out for blow dry. She asked if I wanted it straight and I said yes, with a flat iron. Clearly, the heifer didn’t do it right and my hair has curls on the bottom. I told her it wasn’t straight, she argued back that it was. Needless to say, I just paid the $ 25 for my real hair and walked out the door. To my fellow Unilocalers, DONOT go to this establishment, cause I won’t.
