Gold’s Gym

I wish I could give this gym no stars! I would NEVER recommend this gym to anybody. At least not the one in Hollister, CA. This gym is dirty, needs an upgrade and they take forever to fix things in there. For example, the steam room did not work the entire time I had a membership. The main reason I am writing this review is because the customer service is horrible. I have been trying to cancel my membership since October (it is now January) and they have not done so! I have called once a week and have made a attempt to go to the gym once a week to try and catch one of the owners because they are not doing their job!!! Keep in mind they signed a paper saying my account was going to be terminated in November and they charged me for December and most likely will charge me for January. The same person I’ve been dealing with is an idiot and does not know how to do his job. Every time I talk to him he says he will take care of and has not done so. NEVER SIGN UP WITH THIS GYM. Definitely go to a different gym and save yourself the hassle!!!

As others have mentioned, this place needs a good cleaning and the machines should be updated. I only checked out this gym because Anytime fitness was closed and I don’t have a membership yet. I plan to stick with Anytime Fitness because at least the machines and equipment is clean. The owners of Gold’s really need to close this place and do a complete overhaul.

Love the early morning classes here but this gym is dirty. They have made small improvements like some paint& the spin room is better now but There is never any hand soap in the bathrooms even though they have signed off for it everyday. The water barely comes out of the faucets. They keep changing from wipes to spray cleaner with paper towels. The equipment has dust & gunk way to thick on them. Mirrors&floors are gross. In fact in all the years I have been a member I have yet to see someone clean anything… Especially the equipment that people sweat on& they need to be cleaned at least once daily or weekly at the very least. I have worked and been a member of many gyms. The only thing keeping me there is the two classes I take… Amazing instructors by the way.

You know, Hollister is a small town and word travels like wildfire. And in a small town, reputation can effect a business big time. We were members of another local gym and thought we would give golds a try. We took the tour of the facility, were told that nothing stays broken for any period of time for the owners expect perfection. Many classes are offered and the gym stays open till 11 pm. The tour included a look at their sauna and steam room. The steam room was down for repairs and we were told the parts were in order and it would be repaired soon! Well here we are, nearly 3-​months later and no steam room. Machines are routinely down, the paper towels in the bathroom and around the gym to clean the equipment are always empty. My, my, my, get it together people!

Stay away from this place! The gym has older equipment that’s not maintained very well. On average half the treadmills work. The cable machines are either broke ore missing the pins to hold up the weights. The men’s bathroom is filthy and the locker room smells like urine. After my contract was up they continued to withdraw money from my account for 4 months. When I called to speak with a manager it took 3 days for them to return my message. After speaking with a manager they informed me that they could only refund 1 month out of the 4 months I was overcharged. Judge Judy here we come!

New owners, they are trying to fix it up but lack customer service. No longer a member.

This gym is dirty, dirty, dirty. Can you a least clean the locker rooms and showers once a week! The steam room is black with mold. No one wipes down any of the equipment. Most equipment is broken too. I would think that the Golds Gym company would be embarrass to have their name on this gym.

I was a member here from October of 2012 through September of 2013. Let me start off by saying that their membership fees are reasonable, so one star for that. The second star is because I liked the Yogalates class (mix of yoga and pilates) and attended fairly regularly for a while.
The entire time I was a member there, the hair dryer in the women’s restroom NEVER worked. There is no AC there. I know that a lot of older buildings in Hollister don’t have AC because it rarely gets above like 90, but a gym with a bunch of people putting out body heat would be a good place to have it. Also, the dirty feet smell was almost unbearable at times. I get it, it’s a gym and people sweat in there, but there was a serious lack of cleaning going on in there. Machines were old and wearing out, audio plug ins for TVs never worked. I recommend scouting other places first.

The one thing that I liked about Gold’s Gym is that the memberships are reasonable. It seems like there is a lack of customer service. I have been a member for three years and there are some great classes and one of those great classes was canceled (RIPPED) due to lack of participants sometimes but that was a great class. Machines are slowly wearing down and the steam room in the women’s restroom always seems to be breaking. There are some great employees who are very friendly and helpful but then there are employees who just stand around and do nothing. Or when you walk up to the front counter and are looking for an employee who is out on the floor working out while they are working. This can be a good gym because if you are determined to lose weight you will do whatever it takes. It just would be to have the amenities of the steam room and more friendly and helpful staff. That’s the whole reason why I keep my membership here because of the steam room. I looked at other places but that’s what keeps me coming back and the great reasonable child care. Another thing also the board where classes are posted needs to be kept up to date along with the website to know what classes are being offered.

Ok, if you’re usual gym is Equinox, don’t get your hopes up too high here. This gym still retains the original look and feel of a classic Gold’s. Most of the floor space is devoted to weights and weight machines, but there’s also plenty of cardio machine’s upstairs too. I really appreciate the ladies workout room for when I want to sweat hard and grunt in a more private area. I haven’t gone to many of their classes but the aerobics rooms are well maintained and huge. Lets not forget the sauna and steam room in the men’s and women’s locker area. I also appreciate the the gym smells good and is always clean. I really enjoy this gym, it doesn’t have any frills but it gets the job done!

The gym is decent. It gets the job done. Been here quite a few times. I like the strength training section. I do like that there is a women’s area as well. I will say, I am not fond of the cardio equipment. Very disappointing. They could definitely use some new equipment. A lot of them are off balance or squeak loudly or look like they have seen better days. I would give it more stars if they got some new cardio equipment. I spend more time in that area of the gym. Also, for when it gets to be summertime it would be nice to have air conditioning. Hard to breathe when it is too stuffy and hot. Overall not a bad place and I still go on occasion.

Better late than never…,
Time for spin class!!! This class will get you sweating… Very hard core. Half of the time you’re on the bike and the other half on the floor…
Expect anything from squats to jumping jacks… and expect your legs to burn!

This gym is very clean…

Although they have everything you need to get the job done, this gym certainly needs a facelift! If you make it through the parking lot without blowing a tire, or all four, from one of the millions of potholes, you walk in to a gym where the customer service is well, most of the time not there. The tanning beds are circa 1990, the cardio machines look like someone hasn’t taken a cleaning tool to them since they arrived. During the warmer months, it is miserable to work out here because I honestly don’t think they have air conditioning! I went to the water fountain on one summer night to get a drink of super cold water, yeeaahhhh NO! Right out of the pipes comes miserably hot water. Thankfully I’m only stuck with this gym for one calendar year…5 more months to go

Most certainly the biggest gym in town for weight training. While there is not a pool or raquet ball court (like Rovella’s), this gym is spacious and has the most weight machines of all of the gyms in town. There is a machine to work out every major muscle group and lots of free weights. This is a place to do some serious body building or simply get fit. You see people young and old and of various body types. You don’t have to be a super model to go here.
The staff is friendly and helpful and the gym is always clean. The staff is always sweeping, mopping and cleaning the equipment and the bathrooms smell fresh.
They also have lots of classes to choose from, many trainers, a daycare, tanning, massage and a juice bar. What’s not to like?
I love the fact there is a separate area just for women for us shy types that don’t like to work out with all those stinky men.
Extra treat:
Watch out for the cutest toy Chihuahua you have ever seen. It’s dressed to the nine and often carries around a little doggie toy. One of the owners (?) brings it in every now and then.
Some drawbacks:
— It can get very hot in the summer even after they open the back doors and use their multiple fans. I don’t think they even have air conditioning. :(
— It can get very crowded after work between 5 p. m — 7 p.m. which makes it hard to get on the equipment you want to use
— Pet peeve. The radio stations for the TVs NEVER work for me. (The one’s at Rovella’s always worked). Some do have the words displayed on the bottom, but for old tired eyes the words can be hard to read.
— I also wish they were open 24 hours like Rovella’s. For a gym rat, I miss going whenever I like and don’t like worrying about getting there before they close at 11 p. m weekdays and 9 p.m. weekends.
