Outpost Farm

I like this place, but it has needed improvement for some time.
We live close by, but don’t come here very often. The turkey and cooked chicken is good. Service is routinely poor. They’re just not organized and even on busy days have one checkout line which is routinely slow. Other reviews have documented their poor organization. The staff are nice but lack leadership.
Placing orders by phone or in the store is haphazard and disorganized. Checkout is amazingly slow and cramped.
They need to hire a consultant to redo the entire customer experience. It may involve redo of the small retail space, computerization of orders, and some plan for how to deal with long checkout lines. It could become a bustling local farm business with 2 to 3 times the revenue.

I am not someone who complains. If you’ve read my reviews you’d know that I’m pretty easy going but there are some things that are unacceptable.
I called on NOVEMBER FOURTH to place an order for a 12 lb uncooked turkey. She took down my info said I was all set to pick it up tues or wed before thanksgiving. I changed my mind and decided I’d make my life easier by getting a Cooked turkey instead of uncooked so I called back on November 14^th to change it from uncooked to cooked. The woman who answered couldn’t find my order?! What the heck? So Seriously thank GOD I called to change my order or I would have gone to pick up the turkey come Wednesday and they would have said that I had no order. she said she would track the other order and put this one in saying she had a 13 LB cooked turkey available and pick up would be sun or mon so I thought great, problem solved. Except NOT really because Tonight I went to pick up my turkey and alas, the girl couldn’t find my order. Another older blonde woman walked over to look, also couldn’t find me and gave me an accusatory, well you’re NOT in the orders log. Are you sure you ordered here? You’re sure it’s under that name? I told her I made the order, I spoke to a woman both times and the first turkey was 12 lbs and when I changed the order she told me she could give me a 13 lb turkey. She literally makes me feel like a complete liar so I stood there while people watched and looked at my phone records and I showed them the call log that says OUTPOST FARM and I tracked down both times I called. She doesn’t say sorry, she’s still glaring at me and she proceeds to say well I don’t know because we have been and I quote we have been very accurate this year and then she tells the girl to go check with someone out back to see if another turkey is available but she states to the other girl completely ignoring me she doesn’t want them to be short one at the end of the night. You serious lady?! The young girl comes back and tells me she has a 15 lb not a 13 lb available and so unless I want my thanksgiving ruined I agreed to it and ended up paying more money for a turkey that I didn’t order and apparently the one I did order disappeared out of thin air. Magic. Thing is, I understand that mistakes happen but not the same mistake two different times. The cherry on top is Afterwards I decided to grab some to go wings and potato wedges and after waiting at that food station the same woman comes over to ask the woman who came in AFTER me what she wanted to order so I ended up having to wait again. They really should have numbers like at the deli or something. Can’t say I’ll ever return, not worth the frustration and left feeling like an idiot.

What a let down.. I got a turkey pie which was very boring! Just turkey and brown slop. The stuffed chicken was a tad dry and stuffing wasn’t anything special.

Outpost is a turkey farm that also sells sandwiches and a few other items from the on-​site store. The sandwiches are made with their turkey and there’s a decent variety of options (if you like turkey). They’re pretty tasty and only about $ 6. We bought some ground turkey, which turned into some fantastic turkey burgers. Definitely much better than what you can get at the grocery store.

This place may have the best turkey sandwiches ever according to other reviews, but everything I bought the other day was essentially tasteless except for the stuffing inside the roasted chicken. The chicken was dry enough to choke on — the cole slaw had a thin, watery dressing with NO flavor — the chicken tenders were dry and flavorless. I bought a piece of cherry pie for my husband who said it tasted like a cheap grocery store pie. No thanks.

Delicious Turkey Pot Pies! We got the mixed meat one and loved it (along with stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy)! The crust is so flakey, I kind of wish there was more. The gravy inside is savory and wonderful. And the meat is so tender and flavorful.
The muffins are also amazing, especially cinnamon.
All the food is very fresh, very natural, and very tasty.

After further review it appears that I was in fact charged the proper amount for the turkey. The issue appears to be that the order was not taken properly. Spoke to owners went over every item which indicated proper billing. Owners felt badly and offered to make all right as far as I’m concerned nothing further needed to be done, just a mixup in the order processing.

Got a «yummy» turkey dinner… Not yummy anymore. A BIG blob of stuffing, a piddly speck of cranberry sauce, a small blob of mashed potatoes, squash and cubes of turkey swimming in gravy. Reminded me of the Banquet turkey in the boil in bags… Then we got 4 pieces of chicken…1 was a breast and a small thigh then one teeny, tiny leg and the smallest wing I’ve ever seen. They must have been from a pigeon!!! How embarrassing that they would count that wing toward a piece of meat… Pitiful food… Definitely gone downhill since the summer…

May have good food, but I wouldn’t know. I came in to grab something quick on my lunch break. With almost no one in the store, I ended up waiting 10 minutes at the counter to be served on until I finally walked out. Unfortunately, I probably won’t be back.

Amazing thanksgiving sandwiches. Get it on white which is fresh and light just enough to hold the copious amounts of fresh turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayo together… Unbelievable. Really i cant wait to go back!!!

Bread is amazing. Everything is amazing. Hidden gem. I have lived in Ashland 10 years and just found this place. Thank you for being there

Great lunch place! Recommend the #2 and #7! Also carry meals, pasties, etc. of very high quality. Highly recommend.

Picked up Gravy for Thanksgiving and two Turkey Pot Pies. The gravy was gross and no one liked it. The turkey pot pies were tasteless. Outpost is just living off it’s name.

There’s really no better place to find a turkey sandwich. Plenty of places throw some kind of a «gobbler» on the menu around Thanksgiving, but Outpost does the best – turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce (I recommend it on white with mayo, salt and pepper) – year-​round.
I have co-​workers who swear by their stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy for the holidays, and plenty of the students where I work like to swing by for reasonably priced lunches (try the potato wedges). Pies are superb, service is always cheery, and you can pick up any number of local products for gifts or a snack.

Produce and other food I purchased from the farm were great, but I have to say the BEST part of the farm is the customer service. Not only quick, but so friendly! A little girl and her dad were behind me in line, the man at the register asked if she could have a cookie, dad said yes. The man then took money out of his own wallet and purchased a cookie for the little girl. My friend and I left wondering what planet we were on. Support this local business!

Great selection of home-​made products and local favorites like jams and maple syrup. I ended up buying some hot food — broasted chicken with potato wedges. Yum. Good price and plentiful portions. The line did take awhile to get through but it was a Saturday and the place is clearly popular. I’m definitely going to stop again if I find myself in the area.

Amazing turkey sandwiches. Hearty portions (large sandwich) and good amount of «fix-​ins». My normal place is Gerards in Marshfield but having this place be so much closer is nice.

Being a lifelong resident of town, this farm is a landmark and town favorite. I am a biased Unilocaler because they have been such a great neighbor of the community that it makes everything they do «better».
That being said, our most recent new experience with Outpost is the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. This is where you buy a share of crops and pick up a box of fresh produce each week (or every other week in our case).
Tough to tell if it is a huge savings (I assume it is), but we had fresh and unique veges to cook up all summer. There were also great recipes and instructions for the less known veges.
Of course, I love the sandwiches (especially the turkey with stuffing and cranberry).
We don’t do the fresh turkeys for holidays, but the lines down the street tell me I should.
It’s a very rustic setting, with concrete floors and dimly lit interiors, but it fits the bill for a local farm that allows us to swing thru for staples when we don’t feel like cooking.
For kids, they constantly have a petting corral of some animals over the summer months, or an old tractor to sit on.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner I have been craving turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce which lead me to ask around the office for suggestions. Almost unanimously everyone at work pointed me in the direction of the Out Post Farm.
Run by Adrian Collins, the Out Post Farm is not your typical farm stand. In addition to growing fresh produce like apples, pumpkins, corn, tomatoes, squash, and much more on fifty acres they also have a small deli which makes and sells sandwiches and baked goods. While I didn’t stray far from the sandwich menu I did notice that they also have a great selection of hot foods too. The menu is mostly bird centric with turkey and chicken being the main ingredients but there is some other options. There are no seats inside so plan on take out, or if the weather is warm enough enjoy the picnic tables out front.
Craving a sandwich I settled on a #2. If you want a turkey sandwich that reminds you of the one your mother makes then you are in for a treat. My mother is a pretty good cook so it’s a tall order to compare. As described the sandwich looked and tasted like it was made with love by a mother for her child. I couldn’t have been more satisfied both in quantity of food and taste. The sandwich had just the right ratio of stuffing and turkey to cranberry sauce and bread.
They offer 6 different bread options from the usual suspects like white and wheat to more unusual options like oat nut and 12 grain. They also have wraps for those looking to cut the carbs.
With all of that said if you are looking for a gourmet sandwich this isn’t the place for you but if you’re looking for a tasty sandwich that’s sure to satisfy then give it a try.

so amidst travel 2011, i had about 12 minutes to glut down some grub on route to my next school, this was mentioned as a great (local) sandwich place and should not be missed, so off i Unilocal,errr go.
very country, pumpkins, scarecrow the whole farm vibe. to be honest, i only had a few minute to decipher their bird focused menu and decided on something i never eat for lunch, a turkey sandwich (the joke here is thats the only thing i eat at the office, strange i am still attracted off site)
turkey, bacon, american cheese (shouldnt have gone with that) in a wrap, cold, but still very good. they sell wings, wedges, pot pies, buffalo finger wraps and a bunch on home made things, but i couldnt absorb it all for this Unilocal,youll need to go for yourself to see!
price point was spot on, 1.50 for a bottle of tea and 5.50 for the wrap.
downsides if i needed to say was that the high school kids can go off campus for lunch so this place gets extra crazy for the woods around lunch time, but thats all i got.
