My two girl friends and I checked this place out on Saturday after spending some time in its sister club Holly’s located right next door. The interiors are similar but aside from that Holly’s East is the sleepier sibling if the other night was any indication. We showed up around 11:30 and stayed until 2am and for the most part it was pretty empty. The club probably had about 10 people in it most of the night and nobody danced. My friends and I were really eager to boogie so we got up and danced by ourselves which was a little embarrassing since we were also the whitest people there. Still we figured that the people who were dancing in their seats would join us soon enough, but boy were we wrong. After about an hour and a half of that we decided to look around at some other clubs. When we came back we saw that nobody was dancing and that the place hadn’t gotten much more crowded. Aesthetically this place has nice interior design. It’s supposed to be a sexy throwback to French absinthe halls but it just looks chic and not particularly French. Sexy décor and nice seating are the definite high points of this place. A couple weird things about my experience: First, nobody asked me to dance or bought me a drink, hell, no one even asked me my name, but I had my ass grabbed not once, but TWICE, and once from a guy who worked the door or was friends with a guy working at the door. Kind of unprofessional guys, but I won’t lie, seeing as how it was the only action I saw all evening it was nice to be reminded that I’m not a leper, even if it means I have to be sexually harassed to find out. Oh how sad. Second, the inside of this place smelled delightfully of this incense I used to burn back in college… some kind of nag champa. However when I went to use the restroom(which were not marked as bathrooms or by what sex is supposed to use them) the whole room was cloudy like there had just been a fire and there was smoke coming out of the sink drain. It was really alarming at first but then I realized someone had lit incense in the bathroom. OK, I appreciate the touch of style but not if it’s going to make me choke or give me blurred vision. Thirdly, the second DJ was really much better than the first of a evening… a cute guy with big glasses. However my girl friend agreed with me that within 30 minutes of our dancing to the music alone while everyone else continue to sit, the guy started playing«white music». We’re talking KIISFM top 40 white girl pop music. I should mention that throughout the evening they played a large variety of music, everything from hip hop to reggae to Britney. Still, when some Latina girls walked in and the music turned to a hip-hop cumbia mix I started to think we were being racially profiled. I guess the important thing is that the DJ was good, but it stood out. Will I come back? Eh, maybe, but first people gotta dance!

at holly’s there is an a-list crowd and it is really hard to get it, unless you have conecctions, this is a club brought by the star group management, who has also brought you nacional, tengu, and nine thirty the decour looks similar to moulin rouge, their were frosted windows and sepia-toned photographs of barley naked ladies, this place is very mysstery looking, tip: this place is really hard to find but the paladar sign from its former incarnation is still standing but a cocktail sign will replace it
