I am not the person who writes bad reviews and I always like to give people and business a second chance, because owning the business myself, I know it is not always easy to make people happy. This case is a different story and I wanted to share my experience, just so maybe it will help other people not to make the same mistake and rent an office at the Meyer Executive Offices. In the beginning of this year we started a new company and were looking for a small office space that would give us a flexibility to grow if all goes well or to downsize if needed. Meyer Shared office space seemed to be a perfect fit(or so we thought in the beginning) When meeting a few times with the owner, he assured us, that he is an entrepreneur himself and he understands how hard it is to create new business, and he promised that he would not penalize us if we will have to move before our 6 month lease term is over. The owner also assured, that there will be a lot of business opportunities to work with him and other tenants who might need advertising services.(WASNEVERTHECASE) We did sign the six month lease, which the owner assured was just a formality. The agreement was a one page document that did not have any penalties or late fees explained on it.(I should have known better, it looked too good to be true). We paid the first month rent and the deposit(THATCLEARLYSTATEDREFUNDABLE) and were able to move in. The offices usually come completely furnished, however we had our own furniture, so we chose to use it instead. As a lot of businesses go in the beginning, we were not moving forward as fast as we thought and 5 months into the lease we informed the owner that we would like to move out. The owner asked what was the reason and after we explained we did not have the funds to pay for the office any more, he seemed to be understanding… until the day we gave the keys back. He took out a file, looked at the one page agreement and in his computer and told us owed 2 months of rent, after asking him to revise his records he said he will talk to his wife, who is the accounting manager, I guess, and will get back to me. He never did a walk final through to inspect the office. This is where the fun really started. His wife informed us that we were 2 months behind on rent. After going back and forth, they acknowledged that we were not, however they completely refused to give us the refundable deposit. This is where we were sent an email with the complete 3 page rent agreement(the other 2 pages did not have my initials on them, as I have never seen them before) and a statement that it cost 600 to repaint a small 250 Sq ft room.(Which we believe is a normal wear and tear and is done after every tenant moves out). We were also asked to pay late fees for the rent payments that were 1 and 2 weeks late(even though we were never advised of that before nor it was stated on any of the invoices). Is it legal to have tenants sign one page agreement and never show the rest? Are the contract pages that are not initialed still valid? Should an honest landlord provide a contract copy upon moving in? If it states that the deposit is refundable, in which case it becomes non refundable? Does it really cost 600 to paint a tiny room? What happened to honest people who keep their word and help each other? We definitely learned a valuable lesson here and hopefully will not get into the same trap ever again and we hope this longest review I ever wrote will help someone save some money :)
