I recently furnished practically my entire condo from this place. For a long time I’ve been looking for good quality, CHIC furniture and not have to end up at Ikea! I’ve finally found pieces that I’m proud to display in my home and not break my bank! The lady working there was SO helpful and funny too! I def recommend checking this place out… it’s a good find! .oh, and they play great music in the store, I bought a CD too. Lol

I’m writing this update because the termites or woodworms(or whatever was in the furniture) seemed to have died off. I’m not 100% sure, but after something like 4 – 5 months I started noticing less and less sawdust piles in the furniture. Don’t know if I got lucky or if the bugs always eventually die. To the store’s credit, they were very nice when I called initially and said they would take the furniture back, but I didn’t and now I’m glad. The bugs are gone and the furniture is gorgeous. You really can’t beat their prices, but be ready to deal with possible wood eating insects, which by the way you never actually see. They live inside the wood and seem to be very shy. LOL.

Their Teak Furniture is infested with Powder Post Beetles! DONOTBUY!!! I bought 2 night stands in August 2009 and a month later spotted random powdery sawdust piles popping up out of the wood in both night stands. I would dust them off but they kept coming back in random places. Upon opening a drawer one evening I discovered a few tiny dead bugs inside. I did some research and after talking to 2 carpenters realized the furniture was infested with Powder-post beetles. They look like this: Powder Post Beetles can infect surrounding wood furniture and a professional exterminator is the only way to eliminate them. I returned to Shanghai Tien and before talking with the owner/salesperson I looked over a few furniture pieces and wasn’t surprised to discover the powdery sawdust piles in other drawers. The bugs are in the wood and could be infecting every piece in the store. I explained what happened to the nightstands I bought and the salesperson said she didn’t realize her furniture was infected and didn’t seem to care. She returned my money and took back the infected furniture which I appreciated but I don’t appreciate her selling infected furniture to the public. Please don’t buy this inexpensive teak furniture!!!

Woodworms! That’s right, furniture beetles, better known as «woodworms.» We bought a table here from the outside part of the lot. Many of the pieces of furniture out there seemed to have a lot of dust in the drawers, but we didn’t think anything of it at the time. We got it home, cleaned it up, and put it in our living room. That’s when we noticed new sawdust piles emerging from tiny holes in the wood. The dreaded woodworm! Sure enough, every day there would be little piles of sawdust created by industrious wood beetles. I’m still giving 2 stars because the prices are great and it’s easy enough to treat woodworms if you catch them early. We went to Ace Hardware and bought some«Termite-Prufe» solution(non-toxic and actually makes your furniture fireproof) and applied it liberally to all surfaces of the table. Then we did it again. And again. It seems to have worked; the infestation seems to have moved on and we now have a faux-antique piece thanks to the woodworm holes. So be careful and check what you’re buying for woodworm holes and sawdust, or be willing to soak it in Termite-Prufe. The prices are a steal, but you get what you pay for.

Avoid buying at this store! Unless, of course, you want to end up with a piece of crap furniture that falls apart in a week. My husband and I bought a TV stand there, which, as confirmed by Cindy at the store, would hold up our TV. Well, a week later, the stand started splitting all over. We spoke to Cindy to discuss an exchange or return and were offered a return with a full refund including a delivery fee($ 60 to deliver 5 block away — yikes!). When the time came to actually refund us our money, Cindy changed her story and refused to refund the delivery fee!!! Bad strategy to have return customers… Avoid this place!!!

Came to Shanghai Tien thinking it was an antique store. Soon realized that this is mass-produced antique-looking Chinese style furniture. The stuff wasn’t bad, though. Everything seems well made and the staff was helpful. Parking was a little difficult to find, and the store isn’t exactly organized as to furniture type. They also have music and books, and they offer to help you with delivery if you don’t have a truck.
