How ironic is the name of this legendary hot dog establishment this week. After almost a quarter of a century at this location, the owner gave them only 30 days to vacate as he wants to redevelop the property. This week is indeed the last stand of The Last Stand. It will open again when it can find a suitable building and location but hurry to experience it one last time at its present cool digs. Hot dogs with the special sauce are still only two bucks … hot or sweet sausages just a little more. The Last Stand is at or near the top of hot dog stands in the Delaware Valley. And lets hope the very friendly employees can somehow hang in there until it reopens!

There is no better hotdog in delco or really anywhere. I have been going here since I was little and will never stop. The griddle grilled dogs are the best the flavor is there. The sausages are fabulous and if you want it on your dog’s they got it cheese, chilli, relish… etc. Its the only place are to get red cream soda that’s good and root beer. Yea so it’s a hole in the wall off Macdade but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great. But for that lunch time doggie fix this IS the only place to go.

Good grilled hot sausage along with a friendly staff. Might be the best fast food in Delco.

I’ve been going here for over 30 years, a true Delco Gem. Nice people, great food. I recommend the hot sausage, with sauce, cheese, mustard and relish. Throw in a bag of Herrs and enjoy life for 10 minutes eating in your car or at an outside table.

Okay. This is a secret, magical place that appears suddenly out of large banks of fog. Or at least that is what it felt like. I don’t know how many times I’ve driven by this place and for whatever reason, never stopped. I don’t think that will be happening anymore. There are so many things I need to try at this«hot dog stand» — but I settled on the Roast Beef with Gravy as my first try. It was incredible. Bread — awesome. Crunchy and soft. Meat — cut just the right way, and soaked in hot, beefy gravy. I wanted another even though I was more than full. The staff is engaging, and very proud of where they work. I am not surprised at all at the ranking of this place. I hope they’re here for many more generations.

The best hot sausage and dogs in delco. I have been coming here since I was a kid. Very good birch beer in a frosty mug.

This place has been around forever. My family asks for hot dogs/chili dogs from here all the time. Probably pick up take out 2xs a month. People are great, hot dogs are always good, barbeque not bad, meatballs just OK, quick friendly service and prices are very good. Great Birch Beer. Small, has a few stools(3 – 4) but really a take out place — more of a roadside food stand. I am a local and I have never heard anyone who didn’t grow up going there and love it. My only complaint would be that it just does not look clean. An old place that could use some sprucing up – paint and a good scrubbing of the kitchen facilities.

This place is a hidden gem with a novel of past time experiences. I remember growing up as a child going here having a hot dog and playing on the wooden plane in front. Now a days I prefer the hot sausage with kraut and spicy mustard, sometimes with a birch beer. It’s very small in side so be prepared to sit next to a stranger, but you will be happy with the prices and experience you get when all said and done.

2 out of 2 for Food 1 out of 1 for Service 1 out of 1 for Cleanliness 0 out of 1 for Atmosphere I have to admit I was hesitant when ordering, went for a hot dog with cheese whiz and onions. It was awesome! My boyfriend ordered the sausage with sauce and cheese. He’s still jonesing for another and it’s been a week! The server was very nice and patient as I tried to figure out what I wanted. A quick peek behind the counter revealed a relatively clean place. The grill they are cooking on is ancient but still clean. The are a few stools in the front of the counter but otherwise, not a dine in place. Can’t wait to try the sausage with sauce!

Finally visited The Last Stand after passing by it at least a thousand times in my life. I’ve always heard excellent things about the hot dogs and they lived up to their reputation. The taste is hard to explain. It looks and seems like just a regular hot dog with no special fixings on it, but even plain, it has a unique taste. Couldn’t get enough of it. I also tried the spicy sausage and was very impressed with the taste and the heat level. I had an orange cream soda, which was good, but that was before I saw the sign for homemade birch beer served in a frosted mug. I’ll definitely be sipping on that next time around. I’ll be back for sure.

Its a stand that has about 8 stools inside. Super nice staff. They feature Hatfield hot dogs and sausages. Parking out along the side. Not a huge menu but what you can expect everytime is this — decent, tasty dogs, served quick and hot. I get the same thing each time: two dogs well done with mustard and raw white onions and a medium fresh tapped root beer. Cost — a little under $ 5. We aren’t talking haute cuisine here but we are talking good dogs done right. I like Dannys dogs down the street as well. My favorite place is downtown — Hot Diggity on South Street — because they offer natural casing dogs and the most incredible french fries around. But in Delco, this spot is a great choice if you are hunkering for a dog.

Wow, 5 stars huh?! Well, It’s a pretty cool little side of the road food stand type place. No indoor seating, no frills type place that’s been a staple in the community for 40 years or something but in my experience it was just okay. I just ordered two regular hotdogs and some birch beer. The birch beer was fantastic in a nice frosty frozen mug. The hot dogs were just average though. Store bought hot dogs, the ones I got were burned on one side. The price was pretty good though at 1.75 a piece. I wasn’t blown away but the staff was friendly and I’ll probably stop in again and try something else on the menu.

One of my favorites. Besides the hot dogs, give the Italian sausage a try. Milk shakes are awesome and hand dipped. Root beer on tap — how often do you see that? Playground stuff to keep the younger set occupied. What more do you need?

All I will say is that the last time I had a dog with their secret sauce, the sauce was terrible. That was a few years ago. i don’t know if I happened to catch a bad batch of it or not. It might have been just my experience. However, I do appreciate the history of this place, I appreciate the simplicity, and if you just wanted a couple of dogs with ketchup and relish, and a cold frosty mug of birch beer on a summer day, the place redeems itself. And recently, I did have a jalapeño cheese dog here that was really good. It bumped my review up from three to four stars based on that dog alone. Redemption never tasted better. Best dog in the Philadelphia area? Not yet. But it does the job.

Saw a Line standing outside and made a quick stop. They make great hotdogs. They also have other sandwiches that are reasonably price. I can’t wait to get back in the area to stop again.

A hotdog place can’t get any better. The place hasn’t changed in decades either in food or décor(you eat outside on tables made of barrels). On a beautiful day like today, there’s a line at the window. The dogs are good but the hot sausage is even better. I took the kids to this place I used to haunt as a teenager and was pleased that the experience hasn’t changed a bit from then. They loved it. Oh, and you MUST get the frosty mug of birch beer! p. s. You don’t go there to get healthy so just get over it. :o)

Prepare yourself for the GREATEST Hotdog that you can get in the Delaware Valley. 15 – 20 Minutes outside of Philadelphia lies a treasure beyond belief. To give perspective– I’ve eaten a LOT of bad-for-you-food in my life but this just blew me away. After some afternoon hobby shopping it was time to grab some lunch and I was fascinated by this completely understated place across the street– Interested I headed over for what would be close to a religious experience. The Last Stand is a Relic for sure… built out of the owner’s house– more like a front porch there is little to be found in the way of décor. Although there is something to be said about the rich americana that lies in the aging overhang. You are instantly transported back 50 years– it reminded me of somewhere my dad and his pals would head before heading to the sandlot. None of that matters if the food doesn’t stack up– and let me tell you it does. I had never been there before and so i foolishly tried the Sweet Sausage and Peppers– I was underwhelmed… but then i tasted the hotdog(chili sauce and cheese) it was perfection. The chili sauce was the best i’ve ever had– born of this guy’s father years and years before and passed down to the son who operates the business today. The cheese was most likely just warm whiz– but when combined– pure gold. So much so that I HAD to order another directly after eating the first dog and sausage. And all of this food– under 10bucks including soda. If you have a Saturday off– and have a free minute– drive down there and try it for yourself– you will convert just like I did.
