I came through this area by accident last Summer while out for a motorcycle ride. As I road through this area I was amazed by the cooler temperatures and the shade provided by all of the trees. Today I found my way back, found a parking spot, and hiked out one of the trails towards the river. What a hidden gem! The landscape is beautiful here. Will be back again and share this spot with my nature loving friends.

This loop hike is absolutely one of the best hiking experiences I’ve had. We had two children ages 6 and 9, and they were beside themselves with excitement the whole time! Be prepared to climb rocks, hoist yourself over tree trunks and get a little wet! It is a fairly difficult trail at some points– please beware of slippery rocks and other obstacles! If you have balance issues this may not be the trail for you. Bring a camera– there are beautiful water falls on the second half of the trip! *Tip: Pack an extra set of clothing and some water shoes! There are great places to splash around when you reach the midway mark in the trail!

My family found this nature preserve about 10 or 15 years ago and have been coming there ever since. We have always just hiked the loop trail from River Road to the Susquehanna and back(along both sides of the stream), which is only about 2 miles long. However, there’s definitely more to explore as, all in all, this preserve is 336 acres. The little loop trail is great to wander down; the views are amazing, the creek is scenic, and the trail itself is easy to follow. You can do the whole loop in a about an hour if you’re moving, but stopping to enjoy the scenery, play in the creek or have lunch can easily turn this hike into an afternoon of fun! The park is open from dusk to dawn, and dogs are welcome(and plentiful).
