Came here for my 21st birthday. It was nice out, the bar area was nicely lit, & on a Tuesday it was very low-key. Just what we were looking for. My husband told the bartender that it was my birthday and we wanted to celebrate it there. She looked at us for just a second and then turned her back on us literally as if we weren’t there. My husband tried to order a drink and I told him that we should just leave. We turned around a walked right out & I don’t think she even noticed or even cared for that matter. I’m honestly shocked that this place has good reviews after the way we were treated.

You know the saying… «Dont judge a book by its cover?» Well that needs to be applied here! Saturday night I wanted to discover a new fun hangout in the Southwest /Homestead area as I cannot stand driving so far to SOBE, Brickell, etc… for limited expensive parking and beyond expensive drinks. After having dinner nearby I checked my bookmarks and decided to check out Fat Monkey Bar… Back to judging the book by its cover, as Siri navigates us to the front of the establishment where there were two bouncer type gentlemen outside and frankly pretty scary looking. While wearing sleeveless leather jackets, jeans, boots and bandanas one their heads. After convincing my husband not to turn the car around and head back home we parked and approached the entrance. The gentlemen were courteous and welcoming, which was relieving. NOTETOTHEOWNER: Yes its good to have deterrent from people, who lets just say you wouldn’t want in your establishment but at the same time don’t scare the ones you do away. A combination of a bouncer with a attractive female hostess will possibly work better and not scare people away :) Back to the review… To our surprise we realized that there are four bars… YES… FOURBARS all connected and owned by the same individual. They are all different with different themes, décor and music genre. You can literally spend all night here and never get bored. First bar is Stick and Stein(Billards), second is Fat Monkey(outdoor karaōke bar) DJ Cassie and The Female Bartender were wonderful, Sorry I don’t remember her name), third is Flaglers Martini Bar(beautiful and elegant has a upscale 1920’s feel type of bar) and third is Dade Country Jail(gorgeous country /upscale biker bar feel) We spent most of our night at Fat Monkey since we enjoy listening to the people singing karaōke and the lovely weather that night. Boy were there some people with AMAZING talent! Once in particular, Jasmine… Girl you need to go to American Idol!!! They had 4 different types of Long Island Pitchers, and reasonable drink prices. They have a full bar and cute mini Jäger bottles for the Jäger shots, which won my husband over as we are HUGE Jäger fans. We have a Jäger tap machine in our home for gods sake! Upon the DJ finding out it was my friends birthday, they gave her a birthday drink on the house and also wished her a happy birthday on the mic which was very nice of her. THANKYOUDJCASSIE! In addition, once I checked in with my Unilocal account they had a free shot offer! So you know that won me over… #winning and loving this place! We briefly visited the Country Jail bar and spoke to the bartender there which was very informative and told us about different specials that they had and thereafter had our final drink at the martini bar which put me in a 007 James Bond mood and got me to order a dirty martini, shaken not stirred of course :) All in all I will definitely be back and will recommend this venue, with always the disclaimer of not judging a book by its cover.

Fantastic place! Great staff. It was our first time there and we were surprised at the trendy seen in the Homestead area. Coconut shrimp were awesome! We played pool next door and enjoyed karaōke after. This will definitely be on our date night to do’s from now on!

I’m surprised that my town has something like this. This bar is hilarious with the drunk, wanna be Mariah Carey karaōke singers. I absolutely love the outdoor scene. This bar is nice and snuggled in a cozy little spot between two other bars that you can navigate through. The times I’ve been the crowd is small and honestly I like to be around a small crowd. The only thing that sucks is that the owner does not allow the DJ’s to play hip-hop music to do Karaōke. Other than that, for a chilled funny night I’ll slide through this place for a good laugh.

I always have an awesome time with friends here. I love the outdoor setup, the bar stretches through perfectly, then it leads you to the karaōke singers! My drinks are always made in a timely manner and accurate! Nothing bad to say other than I wouldn’t go alone just because of parking and how far it is. I usually go to Stephanie or Krystal too! They’re awesome and remember what I order even with a full bar!

I don’t care what anybody says. This place is awesome! Cheap drinks, fun atmosphere. You can hang out at the open air kareoke bar, walk through to play pool, or hang out at the piano bar. This is all under one cover, if there is one. Check it out :)

Before 10pm it is a tiki bar. So the bartender, Angie, does not have a friendly attitude. She gets along with male regulars. Not a smart business move. Casey is a great host. The music selection were all genres. Many laughs when the karaōke kicks in. Great prices. I will come again.

When one thinks of Homestead, FL, images of fruit, vegetables, John Deere tractors and fields of stinky fertilizer probably come to mind. Karaōke bars are probably not at the top of the list of things to check out when you’re in an area like this. Believe it or not, there’s more to Homestead than horticulture and hoes(the gardening tool). I was there to witness and partake in the fun that is Fat Monkey last week when I just happened to be passing through town with some friends and some free time on my hands. We started with dinner at Toro Taco(see future review on that) and afterwards decided to look for a place to have a drink or two and blow off some steam from the busy week. Just across the street from Toro Taco(on Krome Ave) we spot Fat Monkey. Situated outside under a small canopy is a long bar with tables and chairs spread out mostly under the night sky. My friends and I ordered up rum and cokes and found a quiet corner to wait for the karaōke to start. Now believe you me, I am no stranger to karaōke. I’ve been known to sing all types of songs — including Patsy Kline, Willy Nelson, Tom Petty, R. Kelly and many favorite hits from the 70’s and 80’s. I even got booed off stage in Key West while trying to belt out an Otis Redding song(Try a Little Tenderness) a few years back. OK, OK — that was a pretty ambitious selection and I must say I’m no American Idol. Not sure exactly why, but I opted to sing Carrie Underwood’s «Before He Cheats» and my good friend Jessica A. dished out some Bad Company(til the day I die). I have to say, there weren’t many people there to impress, but the cool small crowd loved us and were supportive(no matter how bad we sucked). We even cut a rug and started a huge dance circle to showcase some of our moves. As our husbands were falling asleep from stomachs full of Mexican food, we woke them up with a duet of Hysteria from Def Leppard. We did get in a bit of trouble for yelling some cuss words into the microphones(telling our husbands to «wake the F up»), but otherwise it was a great evening. We even received a free shot of premium liquor for checking in on our Unilocal app(we chose Patron). I wish we had a place like this closer to home!
