The trails are fantastic whether it’s Spring, Summer, or Fall. I love that there are different levels of difficulty with their trails. Beautiful views of sunsets when you find overlooks to pop a squat in.

This is one of my favorite fall destinations. The hiking trails are the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors, especially in the fall when the temps are cooler and the leaves are peaking. We’ve spread the word about Hitchcock as much as possible and our friends and family have really enjoyed it. Our favorite spot is the wooden boardwalk that leads to a bluff overlooking the Missouri River Valley. If you catch a UP train going by its even better. Love the outdoors? Go to Hitchcock. You won’t be sorry.

A nice quick destination from Omaha to get an idea of the Loess Hills. They have trails of various stages of difficulty(for Midwesterners not used to mountain climbing ;-)) and a cool Lodge with information of the region, and a tower with a great view of the hills. I ran into Kate at the Lodge who could answer any question I threw at her, and a couple of birding gentlemen(Audubon members) on top of the tower who told me what Raptors were migrating this fall day. I was just scouting for colors today, so I’ll be back soon when the leaves really start to change in the hills.

Just 20 or so minutes outside of Omaha, Hitchcock Nature Center offers a perfect getaway for those wanting to spend some quality time outdoors and away from the city. Various hiking trails wind though the valleys and summits of the scenic Loess hills. Plus, the lookout tower offers one of the best views in area. There are plenty of spots to sit, relax and picnic as well. There’s a $ 2 entrance fee, so don’t forget to bring a little cash.

Rustic trails. An eagle and hawks overhead nature and the sounds of the timber. I love it.
