This was my first time here at the Palladium. What a wonderful spot for dancing, rehearsals, etc. A great dance hall, the bathrooms are a bit dated. However, I’m a bit jealous because the women have a little lounge in their bathroom. Hey, I believe in equality too! LOL. I went there because the dance academy my niece belongs to was having a dance workshop with four sensei from Japan. The hall is so huge that one of the sensei could not be heard, so her assistant had to say it out loud for us. I am unsure if they have a mic system or something. There is a kitchen in back(I wish they had reserved). It would have made it easier to prepare our snacks. Our snacks were outside(I will discuss they food service in the appropriate place because that deserves a one star). Tables and chairs are also available. I think to keep prices low for everyone, you set everything up and take it down yourself. But hey, if it keeps prices low, why not? IMPORTANT: It is perfectly air conditioned. Not overly cold. Not warm. Just perfect!!! I could not have asked for a better environment. I hate to complain, but I wish my niece’s dance dojo was this perfectly air conditioned(I’m so terrible and spoiled). However overall it is a wonderful place to go to. I am looking forward to the dance workshop next year. If you haven’t gone or used this wonderful treasure, you should!

It was pretty trippy coming here for the first time. I did not know that such an awesome dancing space area center existed not until I was invited to an event here. I find out that this is home of the Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association. I attended one of their events in which a col-leige of my mine invited me over to participate. The wooden floors are super nice and perfect for dancing with dancing shoes on. They have a stage area for performances all the way on one side of the area. It is conveniently located in Waikiki right next to the Ala Wai Golf Course and Canal. They have a fairly big parking area. I can imagine a lot of competitions and dance events happening around in this area. Outside of the dancing area, they have another outside area where you can set up tables and chairs and stuff for eating and dining. I guess it’s pretty much a recreation center in that sense with a dominance of ballroom dancing and other dancing related purposes. Unilocal 365 Challenge #280/365

Great and beautiful place for ballroom dances and competitions! Home of HBDA — Hawaii Ballroom Dance Association! BACKGROUND: «The Palladium» as the City and County of Honolulu’s Ala Wai Recreation Center is affectionately called by the enthusiastic ballroom dancers who use it, is an open 11,000 square foot eucalyptus dance floor which was built in 1990. It is home to several State of Hawaii and National Ballroom Dance Competitions each year as well as to several other dance clubs. Much of the credit for the vision leading to construction of The Palladium for the people of Hawaii goes to the former Harriet Ichinose, and her husband Eugene(the Founder of HBDA). They were the principal driving force that spearheaded the idea for The Palladium through the myriad of governmental approvals required. A bronze plaque honoring their efforts is mounted to the left of the main entrance to the upper floor of The Palladium.
