Aloha Island Grill

As of last week (July 2, 2012), Aloha Island Grill no longer exists here, and that makes me sad. The space has been re-​named, re-​menued, and the new restaurant is being run by different people. A letter on the window says that they will open in Mililani Town Center in a couple of months. Wish I lived closer to Mililani so I could continue to enjoy the delicious food and friendly service.

Spicy BBQ chicken is pretty much good as it gets! Trying to be healthy so spicy bbq chicken + brown rice + salad for about $ 7 is not a bad deal! :)

Update! Changing my review to 5 stars. I continue to eat the spicy BBQ chicken burger here and I just don’t get sick of it. I eat here at least once a week and considering the choices you have in this area that’s saying a lot. Service is great and the owners are very friendly. They even remember you by name!

Had the Korean burger, it had a nice texture (not over cooked), but the flavor was just about a bbq with a slight taste of korean flavor. I expected some spice, but found none. Oh and did not like the soggy fries and the half cooked sauteed onions that I paid extra for. More of a two star, but gave the extra to the very friendly cashier.

If you want a place for an excellent steak plate, Korea burger or BBQ chicken plate with green salad this is the place to be!
Excellent price point and smiling customer service. I will definitely be back for the excellent food and the wonderful customer service.

Ate the bbq burger w fries, its ok, the cold burger seems like a premade frozen patty, bbq sauce a little too sweet, but the fries were hot, made to order. Will not come back for the burger. Maybe the plate lunch are better.

So close to five stars based simply on customer service. Luckily the food is pretty wonderful as well. Solid four and three quarter stars! But I just put five stars here, might as well!
Aloha Island Grill is located where Just Tacos used to be in the Remington College Building. There’s no seating inside, but there’s the tables outside that are upstairs and downstairs.
Service is pretty quick. They have daily steak plates and if you really want to get in and out, order that. Seriously, done in like 2 minutes. I have yet to try this steak plate, but the portions are definitely smaller than other such establishments that serve steak plate lunches. I am in love, with their Barbeque Chicken! They grill it right there, or somehow, I am a master in my timing and its always fresh off the grill. Seriously so good. I had dreams about this chicken. I’ve also tried the Kalbi, I am not a fan, it’s decent, but if you want Kalbi, I’m sure you can find another place downtown to eat it. Your on Unilocal,type in Kalbi, you’ll find it. Prices are reasonable, not cheap, but not expensive. Just right.
The service is amazing. You will walk out there smiling, not because you have wonderful food to consume, but because the people are just so awesome. The second time I went there, the cashier/​who I think is also an owner. Remembered my name and the sides (or no sides) that I wanted. We had a quick chat and was all smiles. I had to wait a bit for my food, worth it, and I got to see that this treatment was for anyone who walked in. There were plenty of people she called by name and made everyone feel welcomed.
Your food can be on par or subpar and if you have a good attitude and make people welcomed, they’ll come back. Luckily, this place has great food and good service, so it’s definitely a place you want to check out.

The Food
The steak is tasty, more seasoned than Blazin’ Steaks or Times Supermarkets. They didn’t ask me how I wanted my steak cooked and upon inspection, the meat seemed medium rare. The portions are decent.
The Price
Reasonable. Plus they don’t charge extra for brown rice.
The Service
Everyone was exceptionally nice and helpful. They should conduct customer service classes for Blazin’ Steaks employees. Seriously. Also, my food came fast.
The Parking
There’s no parking so unless you’re in downtown for work or school, it’s not very convenient.
Overall
Better than Blazin’ Steaks because of the excellent customer service and other menu choices like burgers, fries and kalbi.

Seeing as how I work in Downtown, this is my go to spot. The staff is really friendly and they provide outstanding customer service. The place is also very clean and they cook everything in the open where you can see it. So you know there’s no funny business going on and you know it’s pretty fresh.
The food is outstanding! I love the loco Moco’s because the hamburger patty’s are so good! The Kalbi, Korean Chicken and all the Burgers are pretty good too! Cost is pretty inexpensive, except for the mix plates and loco moco’s with 2 eggs. Those can reach close to $ 10…
If I could change anything about this place, I’d probably add Mac Salad to the menu. Currently, you can only order Rice, Salad or French Fries as your sides. I don’t have a problem with those selections but sometimes I really want Mac or Potato Salad! Also like most places in town, they’re cash only! It’d be nice if a lot more of these places took credit cards, seeing it how it is a business distract!

Food first. My favorites here are the Steak Plate, Kalbi Plate, Spicy Chicken (with the spicy sauce on the side), and the Island burger with fries! I also like the Korean burger but I’m a slow eater so by the time I get to the second half of the burger, the sauce has soaked into the bun. Maybe I should ask to get the sauce on the side. :) Everything has that smoky grilled yumminess!
The owners Vill and Michele are so nice! Sometimes I wonder if they ever get mad at anything. They are always pleasant and friendly and call most of their customers by their first names! I try to eat here at least once a week! :)

The Korean BBQ Burger is what you all need to try from Aloha Island Grill. It was the BEST Korean BBQ Burger. You get this happy floating feeling when you take your first bite into this sweetly Korean sauced, perfectly grilled hamburger patty with shredded lettuce and sauteed onions. Trust me. You tummy will be smiling when you have this Korean BBQ Burger for lunch.
What make it even better is the Ohana from Aloha Island Grill. They provide such great service. My coworker goes there several times a week and they know him by name and recognizes his voice when he calls in the order. Always taking orders with a smile and always saying «enjoy your lunch» as we leave the place.

Didn’t know what to eat for lunch one day, and I was open to anything. So, I jumped on my trusty « Unilocal» and came here based solely on Unilocal reviews. As I was in a rush to get my lunch, I called in the order. I got the Korean BBQ Burger. The person asked me if I’d like cheese and onions, so I said…“sure”.
I was expecting a total bill a smidge over $ 6.00 for the burger and fries, but when I paid for it, it was almost $ 9.00! The guy probably thought was crazy because I kept looking at the menu and trying to figure out how a $ 6 burger jumped to almost $ 9.00.
First of all, the prices have gone UP. If memory serves me correctly, the base price is now $ 7. The cheese and onions were something like $.70 each. Wow, would be nice if I had been told that at the outset. I probably would have paid that much, but it was a disappointment based on all of the reviews stating that the price was $ 6 for a burger and fries. The cheese was OK (but a little strange on a Korean burger) and the grilled onions were half cold! Yuck.
The burger was pretty good, though. I think I’d come here again, but minus the cheese and onions, which didn’t add anything to the burger.

They have plate lunches and burgers. OMG the burgers are so good, especially the Korean BBQ burger! Their fries also are to die for. They’re cooked to order.
This place is cash only, so plan ahead. If not, they have an ATM conveniently available, but I’m pretty sure there’s a surcharge.

I really love this place! The husband and wife that run this place are spectacularly nice and it’s great they remember my name each time too. The Kalbi and steak plates are my ultimate favorites. They are flavored amazingly and cooked to perfection. It has been my staple lunch place in town!

I love all the burgers and bbq chicken sandwiches here. Nothing fancy, just taste good. Everything that comes out of this kitchen has this delicious grilled smokey flavor. So good!!!
Today I had the kal-​bi — all salad, cause that’s all my diet permits. Just super tasty simple meat. YUMMY. Taste even better cause it’s only $ 6. I was a little sad when I saw only 2 peices of kal-​bi on my smalll plate, but it was a blessing in disguise, cause I’m fat.
The owners are the sweetest most adorable couple ever. They seem to know everyones name when they walk in the. They are just super cute. I hope they never go away!

Tasty burger, and one of the few places I’d know to get a good burger for lunch in downtown.
Had the korean burger but it tastes more like a juicy teri burger. The burger was tasty but a little salty. I was parched like a desert tortoise for the rest of the afternoon. The fries were tasty, crispy and full of potato flavor (I assume potatoes too, otherwise they do a grand ol’ job filling those fries with something good).
It’s no high-​class burger dish but good value and good portion. I wasn’t hungry after I chowed down that burger and fries combo… Just thirsty to quench the saltiness.

Ordered the Hamburger Steak; two patties, topped with brown gravy & sauteed onions. To my disappointment the hamburger patties were not homemade and the sauteed onions were MIA.
The workers were really nice and they made sincere efforts to call us by name. Because of this I am willing to return and try them again. Spicy BBQ Chicken? AVERAGE.

I had their Spicy BBQ chicken plate lunch today. All and all, four stars. I liked that the chicken was cooked just perfectly — not dry at all, as chicken oftentimes is.
This time I went in to buy lunch myself (my co-​workers had picked up the food for me previously). I found the place itself to be rather simple and clean (Utada Hikaru shoutout!) and the workers to be very nice and polite! Yay for friendly workers :)
