American Savings Bank – Chinatown Branch

Line gets long here sometimes as most clients are a little older at this branch. But everyone tries their best to help and is always very cheerful. I especially appreciate Junno and Gemma’s help as they make themselves available whenever they are able.

I work not too far from this branch and so when it’s pay day I stop by to deposit my checks. The reason why I like this branch is because of the staff. They take the time out to really talk to you, I mean all of them do but they make that effort to have a conversation with you. They even remember your face, which is great! I don’t know what it feels like to be a bank teller, but I’m positive that I’d want to make conversation too. Other than that, the line moves really slow and it’s not because of long conversations. It’s probably the difficulty of trying to understand each other… Sigh
There’s municipal parking around the corner on smith st. If you need a quick ASB and you happen to be going through Chinatown. It is in Chinatown so expect the same atmosphere.

Staff is great and friendly. Nothing more important than that! I like this downtown location for it’s convenient location and prefer ASB over Bank of Hell… errr I mean bank of Hawaii.
Nothing other than I recommend them over BOH any day of the week!

Once upon a time when I attended Mun Lun Chinese Language School at the Chinese Cultural Plaza, I won a prize which was a savings deposit at Liberty Bank, which went through many name changes (due to mergers and buyouts) and is now today’s American Savings Bank (ASB) Chinatown Branch. By pure coincidence, the location of this bank is as the exact same spot!
This branch seems to be one of the larger locations of American Savings Bank. Because of its location, I wasn’t really surprised of the many bilingual speaking tellers who were assisting the elderly Chinese customers. Being fluent in Cantonese, I understood what was being said so I was pleased the elderly who are not fluent in English could do their banking errands in their native tongue.
I found this branch with brighter lighting, unlike the Ward Ave location which is need of renovation.
I’ve been here a handful of times and have noticed many tellers working so the lines are short and you pretty much can expect to zoom-​in and zoom-​out quickly! On the downside, they do not have parking or validate so you need to find street metered parking or park at the municipal parking lot.
Overall, one of the better locations of ASB in my opinion despite the parking inconvenience.

I frequently bank here, and I don’t see any problem with this branch. Service is quick and to the point; they get the job done, and I appreciate that. This branch is located in the Liliha Mall along with Times Super Market, Subway, Fantastic Sams, etc. There is abundant parking in this mini mall, but during busy times it can be quite a challenge to park.
Another reason why I enjoy banking here is because of their hours; this branch stays open till 6PM, so it’s very convenient for me.

One of the WORST branches in Honolulu. They employees always look like they’ve had it with all the inept customers that come in day in and day out with the same questions that they can’t seem to understand, even when explained in their own language… all that frustration trickles down to the rest of us that actually have a clue and just wanna be in & out. Use at your own caution.
