Angel Tailor

Two messed up jobs later and I’m done with this place. Took in 2 pairs of jeans a while back to get hemmed and have them turned from bootcut to slim/​skinny style. The jeans were pinned from my knee down and I made sure she understood not to take them in at the thigh or hip since they were a perfect fit in that area. Come back a week later and pick them up without trying them on. Don’t ever do that. I put one pair on later that evening and the damn jeans won’t even go up past my knees! So I flip them inside out and they’ve taken in the jeans one full inch from the hip all the way down to the hem. On both jeans. Apparently no one listens at this shop. Took both of them in and when I ask her why they did that (mind you they cut off the extra fabric so it can only be taken out so much now) and she said it needed to look even. No. It need to look like a skinny bootcut. And the best comment yet, «you kinda thick in the thigh area, that’s why they don’t fit.» Seriously. She fixed them, but they’re still tight on the thigh since they didn’t have enough fabric to take them back out fully.
Round two, caved a few weeks ago and took in a dress that’s been needing hemmed & taken in for a few months. $ 45 for this. Again, made the mistake of not trying it in at pick up. Tried on the dress today and it’s like the dress wasn’t taken in at all! Flip it inside out, and shire enough, taken in ¼ inch when it should have been a full inch on each side. I pretty much paid $ 30 for nothing.
Never returning. There’s way too many tailor shops around to keep giving my money to someone who can’t take something in but charges an arm & a leg!

Had a pricey pair of American and Apparel shorts that needed a metal button! Brought the shorts here and Angela fixed them in two days for cheap :)
Started bringing other things to be hemmed, etc. and have yet to be disappointed. Quick and friendly service always!

I tried this place for the first time yesterday and the entire experience left something to be desired…
Location-​that shady area on kapiolani in a shopping plaza in between twilight bar and a strip club.
Atmosphere– Man this place couldn’t get any more ghetto! It’s teeny tiny, dated, and dingy, but I came for a service not ambiance however I would not feel comfortable bringing my more expensive pieces here.
Service/​professionalism– Barely hospitable, almost reluctant to do business with me (younger female patron in her 20’s) and practically rushed me out
of the door upon pick up. Funny though the woman at the front desk turned on the charm for an elderly Caucasian couple and I actually sat and waited for several minutes as they conversed casually before my presence was even acknowledged which is pretty darn awkward in such a tiny place!
When I came next day to pick up my jeans the woman at the front desk looked at me like she had no recollection meeting me the previous day, which panicked me because I thought she forgot to hem my jeans but upon snatching my receipt from my hand and sifting through a sea of plastic take out bags in an old wardrobe my jeans were found.
Bottom line: I needed jeans hemmed and a hook and eye closure installed by New Years. Jeans were ready next day for $ 19. The jeans are still slightly too long and the hook and eye enclosure looks like a toddler sewed it on.
I wouldn’t return

I have been going to AT since 1999. They have adjusted my suits, jackets, pants, you name it they can do it and do it well. I have never been disappointed.

Don’t come here!!! Worst alteration job ever!
So I go to Angel for all my alterations. You name it, jeans, prom dresses, gowns, pageant dresses, blouses etc. I’ve been going to her for years! I was recently accepted into the EMT program over at KCC, and it’s manadatory to wear a specific uniform that’s similar to what city and county EMT’s wear out in the field. I manage to order the EMT pants online because it’s really difficult finding a store anywhere on the island that sells female EMT pants. Being short in height, I needed to hem them. So naturally I took them to Angel. She had me try them on. I told her I’m wearing work boots with these pants, so she measured it out and pinned the appropriate length (I had her take in the pants by the waist a bit too). Paid $ 60 for two pants and told me to come back in a few days. Came back in a few days to grab the pants. I was in a rush so I didn’t get to try them on. Next day I put on my pants and the hem is two inches above my ankles!!! The other pair was about 1 inch above the ankle. Both of them were uneven and short! I was shocked and stuck in a bind. I had no choice but to wear the pants because it’s mandatory to wear uniforms throughout the EMT program.
I took one pair back the next day to have her fix it and she told me that I must have washed them and it shrank. So I told her that I haven’t even washed them yet. The tags were still on. But she pushed aside my comment and told me she’ll fix it, free of charge. And she told me to come back in a few days so she can fix the other one, since I needed one pair for class.
I came back again and she did an okay job lengthening it. She had to add extra material to make up for the lack of fabric needed to do a proper hem. So I hand her my other pair and she goes ahead and says, «I have to charge you $ 10 for this one.» She said it was my fault that it shrank since I washed it AFTER it was hemmed. I tried to tell her again that I hadn’t even washed them after she hemmed them, when I picked them up the first time around. I said someone must have messed up the hemming cause it’s not only shorter than its suppose to be but they’re also different lengths from one another. Then she goes on to tell me that I should have washed them before I brought it in because this kind of material shrinks. That’s not even the case!!! (Which btw, the pants did not shrink when I washed them later after all this was said and done.) She didn’t seem to understand me. She continued to blame me saying that it’s my fault that the hem is wrong. I got frustrated and told her that I was disappointed that this happened, hemming is not a difficult alteration to do and that I came here all the time with much more difficult requests. She said «I know you come here all the time. That’s why I don’t charge you to fix the first pants, but I have to charge you for this one.»
I was being charged for a mistake they made!!! And big whoop, she «supposedly» saved me $ 10 after all the stuff I’ve been bringing to her. I ended up saying that I don’t plan on coming back and I walked out. And as I was walking out she says «it’s not my fault, it’s your fault.»
I’m appalled!!! I’ve been her loyal customer for at least 10 years. I’ve recommended her highly to everybody I knew. And honestly I wouldn’t have minded paying to have her fix HER mistake, had she not blame me and just apologized. If she didn’t blame me and apologized, she would still have me as a returning customer. I’m not okay with blaming a customer for a mistake that was clearly the companies fault.
TLDR: Don’t come here. Angel doesn’t give a rats booty about her customers. She’ll mess up on a simple hem alteration. She’ll blame you for it. AND she’ll charge you to fix her mistake.
I hear Linh’s Alterations is good, going to try her out.

. You need something altered or hemmed? Angela’s your girl. Is she a magician? Because I think she can pretty much do anything!
She’s got a really small shop but Angela is extremely thorough, professional and timely. Reasonable prices, too.
There’s an attendant watching the parking lot plaza but it’s free. Hey, someone to make sure nothing will happen to your car. Can’t complain about that!

The aunties at Angel Tailor are so nice and inviting. I had my suit and 5 shirts done in less then a week for inexpensive pricing, all for an important event I have this week. They truly saved my butt, and I would suggest anyone for some quick touch ups to make sure to go to them.
Great, timely customer service. And some of the nicest ladies you will meet!

Excellent service done on my husband’s work pants. They were fast to do the alterations and did a really good job. The price is also great, especially for the quality of work they produce.

Went to fit my wedding dress. Went for pick up and was way way too tight but she made the length great. Week later went back and it was perfect! I still can’t tell she took it in, then back out a little. Magic!

I’ve been coming here for years to have items taken in, let out, or hemmed b/​c its near my office and in town.
I recently, dropped off a couple dresses to get it taken in and noticed the ‘TUDE.’ I felt like being rushed and that she wasn’t taking the time to get best measurments for the best results.
*sigh* I don’t know if I will returning again.

Just spent almost $ 80 on altering two uniform pieces. Received it in a crumpled and wrinkled ball. The least she could’ve done was press them and hang or fold them nicely. And my usual tailor in Aiea always ask if I want to try on my altered pieces tk see if it was to my liking. No such option was given here. Not impressed and will not likely return. Plus, I wasn’t impressed with the bar patrons hanging out smoking nearby. I guess there’s a lot of bars in that shopping plaza.

Had a knit polo shirt hemmed here.
They handled the stretchy fabric well (I believe it takes a special machine and special thread to keep the stretch).
Will definately use this place again.

The WORST alteration job on a pair of jeans that I ever saw! I bought a pair of jeans at a store that takes their merchandise to Angel Tailor for hemming. Although Linh’s always does such a great job on my denim, I decided to give Angel Tailor a shot and had the store do the alteration (with Angel) instead of bringing it myself to Linh’s.
I was devastated by the quality of work Angel Tailor provided. The thread color used was nowhere near a match with the color of the thread on the jeans. The stitching line was also extremely crooked, and the double thread stitching was loose and puckering in an uneven fashion!
I was so upset I brought the jeans back to the store to see if the place kept the scrap pieces, so that I could use the original hem. Fortunately they did, so I was happy, thinking that now I would now be satisfied. After all, how could an original hem look bad if it’s the original hem, and the thread matches?! WRONG! Angel Tailor did this weird thing where there were two hems, and a third piece of material stuck in the middle (because their two hems were crooked and they couldn’t cover up the extra material in between). Again, all of the lines were crooked and did not match up. The first hem (the one not at the bottom but right where they attached the original hem) was thick and lumpy, and stood out noticeably. Oh well, at least now I had the original hem back.
I took my jeans and ran to Linh’s, who gave me back a perfect original hem… no lumps or weird lines, just a smooth transition to an original hem! Lesson learned.

My interests in brands are similar to that of a 55-​year old man, and therefore the clothes that I buy are too roomy in the torso area (Thanks Polo). I’m also a big fan of the Non-​Iron Dress Shirts by Brooks Brothers and of course I have the same problem with them too.
Usually I visit Linda (See my review for Linda Fujioka for more info) to correct this issue, but on a whim I decided to change it up a bit and visit Angel Tailor after reading the reviews about them on Unilocal.
Here’s a rundown of what happened from my most recent visit:
Price/​Quality: I was very impressed by the workmanship! I had a dress shirt and its sleeves taken in for $ 20. The shirt fits nicely and it looks like they still followed the original cut of the maker.
PROS: Convenient location near Ala Moana Center, only takes about 3 – 4 days to finish a shirt (Linda takes a week), prices are reasonable, workmanship is good.
CONS: Limited parking.
Other Notes: There is a reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I dropped my shirt off without a hanger. When I returned to pick it up, the attendant opened a stuffy drawer to retrieve my shirt and it had been crumpled up in a plastic bag. Luckily there weren’t any wrinkles (because it was a Non-​Iron shirt lol) but I think it would be common sense for any tailor to invest in wire hangers for customer garments. For those considering to patron this establishment I would recommend bringing your clothes on a hanger.

The shop is located in a strange two decker two building across the street from ala moana… don’t blink or you will miss the teal beauty.
I took a bridesmaids dress in, and she fixed it right up — asked me when I wanted it back!
Minus 1 star because I thought I lost my ticket the day before I picked up my dress — and at the front desk of the store it says no tickey, no garmet (well not in those exact words, but you catch my drift). Luckily I found it on the day of the pick up — but I scared myself so badly — didn’t know if I was going to get mydress back.

The name says it all… Angel Tailor. Who wouldn’t want an «Angel» tailoring your clothes. I’ve been going to Angel Tailor for at least 7 – 8 years now… Angela IS an angel.
She does a fantastic job at what she does and has been a lifesaver on those occasions when you need something tailored PRONTO! Angela the Angel to the rescue! You know that when True Religion take their jeans exclusively to Angel Tailor to hem for their customers, she must be good.
Gotta run… I’m off to pick up my clothes at Angel Tailor!

Thank goodness for True Religion Jeans turning me onto Angel tailor! While others may be regulars at bars, clubs and restaurants, I am regular here. Being petite can equal a fortune in alterations and I am happy to fork my money over to Angel. Her work is impeccable, prices reasonable, and timeline? Fabulously fast, even on intrcate work.
Paige jeans? Perfect. Voom dress? Va-​va-​VOOM! Designer duds I wouldn’t trust to anyone else? Fit like a glove. Thanks Angel! You are definitely heaven sent.

Angel Trailor has been hemming my Lululemon pants and crops for years, but I’ve only met her (stepped foot into her shop) last week when I had to take my 2 LL shorts in for alteration. Usually I would make my purchases from LL (they deliver and pick up the items from Angel) and then return a week later to pick up my items from LL. They only pay for the hemming alteration, any other types of alteration– you’re on your own.
I needed the back air-​vents sewn shut on my 2 new Run: Speed Shorts. I asked a sales rep at LL which alteration shop they hired for their hemming service, I needed someone that was familiar with the company’s fabric material. Each of my shorts costs $ 54, didn’t want to take it to just anyone.
I dropped the shorts off weds night and picked it up fri from Angela. She did a terrific job and it was really affordable, compared to other places.
