Came across Angelo’s when we randomly drove by the Makeke Kapiolei Farmers Market(Thursdays 3:30 — 6:30pm), and limited myself to only one of his malassadas. I hadn’t had them before, so I didn’t know if they were any good. Plus I wasn’t even hungry. Then I purposely waited until we were back in the car and driving away before I took my first bite. I know myself too well. If the malassada were good, and we were still in the vicinity, I’d clamber right back for more. And I wish I had. I opted for a custard filled cinnamon sugar taro malassada(if I’m only having one, might as well go all out, right?). Filled on the spot, the malassada was perfectly hot and chewy, and the filling was just the right amount of sweet. At only $ 1.50 for this fresh delectable treat, I was kicking myself for not picking up more. Note to self: next time you spot Angelo’s Poi Malassadas, there is no holding back! P. S. Angelo offers regular or taro malassadas, custard filled or unfilled, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar or without.
