I was injured in an industrial accident at work and needed surgery to repair some nerves going to my hand. After going through many doctor visits and finally having surgery, it was now time to recuperate. After the first week, I returned to the doctor to have the staples and brace removed from my arm. I was then sent to a hand therapist for some home therapy exercises. A month passed and I went back to the doctor for an assessment. It was then that he prescribed work conditioning for me through Chart Rehabilitation of Hawaii. My initial visit was to their Waipahu location, but I felt that going to their town location would be more convenient for me. The Honolulu location is located on S King Street, just before Straub Clinic on the same side. If you reach Straub, you gotta go around the block and circle around again. They have very convenient parking under the building for their patients which makes it easy for you. There are times that it may get really busy, so you are given a parking pass for your dashboard to signify you are in session and if your car is double parked you can move it. My first visit was to fill out some necessary forms and to have an assessment and interview. Then it was time to start getting to work. They have a very comprehensive program that is tailored to each individual patient. They concentrate on getting you ready and back in shape to perform your duties at work as outlined by your company. Your conditioning will be gradually worked up until you reach the goals set forth in the guidelines your company wants from you. There were all kinds of machines and hand therapy exercises that were being utilized by me. From something as simple as catching a cloth ball(sounds simple, but not when you’re injured), using hand putty, to cardio exercises to actually doing some things that mimic some of the things I might be doing at work. I did all of this under the watchful eyes of their highly trained and professional staff. I have nothing but praise for each and every one of their staff, from the front desk receptionists to their therapists. I was treated fairly, patiently and with dignity. It sometimes felt bad being in the situation I was in, you feel helpless, but through patience and perseverance, you can recover. Hearing encouraging words from staff makes you want to reach your goals and someday return to being a productive employee once again. I looked forward to going to my therapy sessions because I knew that everyone there was on my side. I never felt ashamed or intimidated. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a Work Conditioning or therapy program. I am thankful to Chart for the time I got to spend there. Thank you Chart!
