Pop’s is a little under the weather, so he had asked me if I could make a run to Chinatown today to pick him up some Chinese herbs & some food. I told pops, hey«no problemo!»…jumped into my car & went to Chinatown this morning. I must say, going to Chinatown is quite an adventure… yes, it’s home for my peeps, but at the same time, it’s a haven for the homeless, & drug pushers too. After parking my car in the miniciple parking lot, and walking along Hotel Street… I dodge a few bums, then turn up on Smith Street, then I hung a left by the Char Hung Sut area. While I was walking along on Smith Street, I could not help but notice the sweet smell of urine reeking from the concrete on the sidewalks… ummmm, what a way to start your day. Well, I finally made it to this place called — Ding Hong Tong Chinese Herbal Store. This is a very small Chinese herbal shop located just a few shops away from the Char Hung Sut area. I walked into the store, & a lady greeted me. I gave her the instructions on what I need, as my pops wrote down the items(he was in medical school in China). The lady told me it would take approximately 40 minutes to fill out, so she told me I could go shopping & come back later. I told her«cool»! I then made my way to «Happy Garden» to pick up some rice soup & other items for my pops, then I had to stop by at Char Hung Sut for the manapua! How can you NOT pass this shop, without going in and picking up some manapua? Well, after 40 minutes had passed… the items were packed and ready to take home. I paid her cash, & off I went… Not too bad service at all, considering that they were quite busy this morning, and there were about 5 other people waiting for items too. You know, as a kid I wasn’t a believer of some of these Chinese herb stuff… but I remembered a time when I had gotten a really bad flu, and after seeing a doctor, & taking the western medicine, it wasn’t much help. My pops then picked up some of these herbs, brewed them, and told me to drink this stuff… man, it was so NASTY tasting, but you know what? It works!!! I’m a true believer of this stuff too.
