I went to Unilocal in search of a Appliance Repair but I was referred to Tom of Equipment Experts instead. so okay. My 7 year old 22.6 cu. Stainless LG Refrigerator suddenly stopped working after I cleaned it *Bummer* So I called Tom at around 12:00PM and he answered my call promptly., I told him that my Fridge isn’t working there’s no lights, not cooling, nothing! he then asked for the Model # etc. he then called me back since he was around the area(It’s like a lighting just struck!!). so I waited for his call and at 1:15PM he’s on his way.(Probably from lunch break or something) :P Anyways, he got to work opening the back of the fridge and found a busted fuse on the circuit board!(Uh Oh) a new board would cost me $ 200+$ 100 for labor so $ 300 in all, and told me that if the board would fail(blow another fuse) then I won’t get charged for labor and just half of the boards cost and he’ll pick up the rest! so I said OK! Let’s do this! 20 – 30 minutes later his back with the circuit board, and he triple checked everything just in case any of the motor failed, compressor etc. he then plugged the fridge back in and it works! *Yay*!! and I get to keep the old circuit board,(he even told me that I could get some electronics person and just replace the fuse and I would have a spare board) he also noted to me that on the newer board it has a slower tripping fuse, the older one would just trip instantly. that was good to know! so now I’m hoping that my fridge would last me few more years. $ 300 vs $ 2 – 3,000! I just saved thousands!!. :D Totally recommend Equipment Experts.

I so wanted to give this guy a 5 star review but I can’t. I wouldn’t normally even call someone with only one review that is one star, but the place I called(with 5 star reviews) was too busy and recommended this guy. After reading his 1 review(and his response) I decided it could have been a misunderstanding and called him. He answered the phone(no voice mail, that’s bonus points :)). When I described the problem I was having he diagnosed the problem, giving a very logical explanation, and said he needed to call his parts supplier and would call me back. He called back within 30 minutes and said he could have the part by tomorrow and would be at my place between Noon and 2 the following day. The next day at 2 he still hadn’t arrived. At 2:15 I called him to see if he was still coming this time I got his voice mail. By 3 still no call back so I left the house. Did I mention this is in our vacation home so I am wasting my time in Hawaii waiting for a repair man who never showed up? At 5PM I got a phone call from him saying he got tied up on another job and couldn’t make to my place until the following day at Noon. I guess his phone wasn’t working either or he would have called me so I didn’t wait around for nothing, right? I told him to forget it I wasn’t about to waste more of my vacation waiting for him.

DONOT use Equipment Experts( ) for your appliance repair:(1) Did not state charges upfront even when asked multiple times the cost for the services;(2) pressed all the wrong buttons and put the fridge into demo mode(for display in store but not really cooling) and didn’t realize it; and(3) recommended to entirely replace two parts that would’ve cost over $ 400 but in the end, nothing needed to be replaced. In the end, we watched YouTube videos and fixed the fridge ourselves without buying any additional parts. After everything that happened, the company still claimed that we owe them money. A number of companies do have service charge for house visit and we would gladly pay it if we actually received GOOD advice. However, not stating charges upfront and giving us BAD advice is just pure bad business.
