We came here for breakfast on 1÷25÷15 and there was a sign that says they were closed until further notice.

I ordered the Chinese chicken salad and was surprised to get fully skin on bone in chicken. Normally a healthy salad choice such as this comes as boneless skinless breast pieces. So I was very disappointed. The flavors were mediocre, the prices were higher for what I would consider lower quality. The menu was busy. The people were not very helpful or friendly. I also was unsure of if I was supposed to stand and wait or go sit down and whether or not I was supposed to buss my own table? The location is good. I am not sure about parking. But I will probably not go back.

Came here for the first time a few months ago and I have to say that this place sets the bar pretty high for the local style plate lunch. One of the best things about this place is that it is clean! This place is damn near spotless, which is unusual considering most plate lunch places have so much foot traffic, that is is hard to keep a place so spotless. Prices are very reasonable at around $ 9 – 11 for a regular size plate and around $ 6 for a mini. Portions aren’t skimpy, but they aren’t overfilling a box either. It’s just enough to make you full without that sickly full feeling. I always order something different here and have yet to be let down. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a good quality plate lunch in an environment that feels fancier, but at the same price as your typical plate lunch.

I’m giving this establishment a 1 star because of the customer service. I’ve been coming to this place for awhile and just as the other Unilocal reviews; the food is good but the service is just horrible. It’s the same heavy set gentleman who is working in the front who just hates life. Food: I did have the meat June and that was good. I would order over the phone. Service: negative 2. Until that gentleman is removed

I like Fatboy’s and I almost hate to write this review, but my experience today was the tipping point. I like their food, I much rather come here than go to Zippy’s or grab fast food. The parking is good, they have a lot in the back and most of the day there’s metered parking right in front. But this one guy… I don’t get it. I just do not get it. I’m not asking for over the top fake friendly, I will take a simple fake greeting over just being stared at. I went in today around noon and there were about 4 people in the restaurant eating or waiting for their food. The employee had his back to me b/c he was accepting a delivery… fine, I get it, I’ve worked in food and retail before. But he shifted and I KNOWHESAWME. No «oh I’ll be right with you» or «give me a second». NOTHING. I think I stood there for 5 minutes before he finally helped me. And by this point, 6 other people had walked in and formed a nice little line behind me. He finally stepped up to the register and just stared at me. No sort of greeting .Ever. So I placed my order and sat down to wait. 2 girls at a table next to me were waiting for their order and when he walked their order out to them, he said thank you to them. A couple minutes later, he gave me my order, I thanked him and he turned around and walked away. No thank you, no nothing. How. RUDE. 90% of the time I come here, this guy is working and he’s always blah. Maybe this guy should start cooking, then he won’t have to deal with customers, since we inconvenience him so. I am now trying to eat my lunch and it’s just leaving a bitter taste in my mouth.

Gotta get the garlic chicken for suuuuuure! I’ve been to both locations, but this location is a lot more convenient for me. I like the menus haha. But I always order the bentos when I come here. Fat boy, alii, mini– they are all so delicious! It’s all about personal preference on what you want inside though. The fat boy bento is a favorite of many and it has many local favorites inside! I like to substitute things for other things too. For example, today I ordered the mini bento, but substituted the hot dog for extra garlic chicken!(Hehe I told you I loved the chicken…) It’s a good deal too because why would you want to order something that has an item you’re not willing to eat anyway? So I definitely suggest taking advantage of it. *You can only substitute an item for another item that is also in the bento* My family ordered the Teri burgers and were thrilled with the amount of onions that were in them!(You don’t hear that often, I know lol) One thing was one of the burgers was cooked medium rare and the other was cooked all the way through, so maybe there needs to be a little more consistency with that. Overall whenever I come back to Hawaii, I crave Fatboys. It really gives me a taste of local Hawaii that I definitely miss while living on the mainland.

Come on, with a name like Fatboy’s, you can’t go wrong. The name alone tells you that you’re in for something good and heart clogging. I did a hit and run and tried their signature dish, Garlic Chicken. Fatboy’s serves Panda Express style where the food is made in advance and sitting in trays. I was fortunate that they ran out of garlic chicken so they made a new batch just for me and it made all the difference. The first bite was succulent, juicy, and flavorful. This was my first taste of the notorious garlic chicken of Hawaii and it was delicious. They offer a full plate or a side option for the garlic chicken. Whatever you decide on getting, make sure to get an order of the garlic chicken. Since the food can sometimes be sitting in trays for a while, you may get a dry and tough piece of chicken. Otherwise, Fatboy’s delivers on its name and satisfies your belly.

This was my first time here and I liked it. I ordered the garlic shrimp plate and it was very good. It was almost as good as Giovanni’s on the north shore, my fave for garlic shrimp. The fiancé ordered the garlic chicken. It was ok, the chicken was a little too hard for my liking. Mitsuken’s is the place to go for garlic chicken. I want to go back to try their fatboy’s bento. The woman on the other table ordered that and it looked delish.

This is my «HITORMISS» pick of the month. I’ve gone here on several occasions and have enjoyed it and have not-enjoyed it. Hence the«hit or miss» pick. On one occasion I had beef stew, loved it. on another had the fried rice… not so good. Mushroom Chicken… loved it. Tonight I had the special Blue Cheese Stuffed Burger with Garlic Fries. The Burger was ok, small(Im use to Kua ‘aina, Honolulu Burger co., etc), but good tasting however, the garlic fries were under cooked. There is nothing worst than under cooked fries. The service is so-so, Not the friendliest people but they get the job done. I’d say if you eat here choose the items you can see on display.

You gotta love Fatboy’s… I love Fatboy’s… My husband is a fatboy! Oops, well onto the other Fatboy’s… I’m surprised this place is only 3-stars. When staring at the huge menu near the front door I’m usually passed up by so many customers entering to form a line for the cafeteria display set up. The service is fast & friendly– accommodating as much as they can when breakfast hours were over, cause my fatboy of a husband really wanted breakfast. Garlic Chicken was my main craving before and during my trip to HI. Fatboy’s was the 2nd best I had, yet at the time the generously portioned, freshly fried to a crisp, and perfectly, garlicky sweet chicken was up at 1st. We’ll get to it’s competition in a later review… hint, hint: Mitsu-ken! But respectively, Fatboy’s is a close 2nd. Fatboy comfort food for me gets 4-stars!

After coming here for lunch last week with my co-workers…I was back again to satisfy my curiosity about the Fatboy’s Bento. Price of the bento went up $ 0.49 cents, as last week while I was there, I noticed the sign said $ 7.50 for the bento. Now it’s $ 7.99 for the Fatboy’s Bento. As advertised… the Fatboy’s Bento has the following items — teri beef, breaded fish, spam, hotdog, &3 pieces of garlic sesame chicken. I asked for brown rice with my bento, so there was an additional $ 0.49 extra charge. My total with tax for this bento was $ 8.88. Overall, it was okay… but since the price came up, I would say it’s comparable to a Zippy’s bento, but Zippy’s has their famous Fried Chicken with their bento… hummmm, decisions, decisions!

I have to admit that I have walked by and driven by this place many times and FINALLY ventured inside! WOW what have I been missing this whole time! I know that there are several locations on Oahu. And this is the only one that I have tried, but I am sure to try the other locations if I happen to go by them. I dropped during the middle of the week and at lunch time. I got there right before the lunch crowd was in full effect. I was pleasantly surprised. I had nibbled/sampled the garlic chicken from a friends plate recently and this made me want to stop by and give it a try for myself. I ended up trying a daily special baked chickend and mushrooms. What I can tell you is that the garlic chicken that I sampled from my friends plate was mouth watering! And my baked chicken I would definitely have again. The portion sizes at this place are kinda big, so go with an appetite! The prices are absolutely reasonalbe considering the large portions of food that you get in a place. I also ordered a mini bento to take home for dinner. The mini is NOTSOMINI folks! for about $ 5 you get a LOT of food in the mini. I will be sure to stop by and visit this place again!

Great grub! Heard a lot of good things about Fatboys, and had a unexpected free morning to try them. I’ve heard parking can be a bear, but coming in at about 9 am, there was plenty! There was several breakfast specials, but one spoke to me– the corned beef hash, 2 egg, fried rice, 2 strips of bacon, and 2 pieces of Portuguese sausage. It was ono and very filling! Also got a mini bento for the next day– rice, hotdog, teribeef, & garlic chicken. Great way to fill up and not over-indulge. Will try some of their lunch/dinner entrees next time. Very highly recommended!

Starch, starch, starch. Ordered the Tuesday special came with meat, mashed sweet potatoes, mac salad, and two scoops of rice. When I ordered it I was not aware that the meal only came with a small amount of mashed sweet potatoes and LOTS of rice. Complained so they explained it and they put brown gravy on the rice making it more palatable. Also gave me a free refill on the soda. New, clean looking place. Might go back but it is a little out of the way.

What a disappointment. It’s called Fatboy, but I sure won’t be getting fat here. The menu said they have eggs benedict Friday ~ Sunday, but they said they discontinued it. So I opted for my 2nd choice which was salmon, but they said they ran out. If I wasn’t in a hurry to eat, I would’ve so left. So I had to just have 2 scrambled eggs and a side of hash browns. The hash browns were just plain potatoes. Nothing fancy like shredded or like McDonalds kine… just potatoes. But when you looked up hash brown it says, «A dish of cooked potatoes that have been chopped into small pieces and fried until brown.» so I guess that’s what I got. –__– After breakfast I was so disappointed with my sad meal. They said they are revamping their menu, but I probably won’t be going back. Unilocal 365 Challenge #364/365

Not all Fat Boy’s restaurants are alike. It really depends on the cook and how well they keep their food. This place makes their food to order, so that’s a plus, but the cook isn’t as good as some other places. It’s also a little more expensive than your usual take out diners, but also more variety in different meats: Mustard herb rack of Lamb — 3 stars — for about $ 14 I got 3 pieces of lamb that came with rice and salad. It was a usual plate lunch size. I asked for medium, but they cooked it medium rare, which doesn’t give it as much flavor as medium. If there was mustard in in, I didn’t taste any. It was ok, and only if there was some kind of dipping sauce to go with it, I’d order it again. Special blackened ahi — 4 stars — for $ 13, the fish was fresh and a nice non-oily plate lunch. With the fish rates going up, this was a reasonable and tasty plate lunch. Keiki Local Moco — 1 star — for $ 5, at first we had to return it because the ground beef was very red/pink and undercooked. They gave us a new one, but it really tasted gamey, and nobody could eat it, so we wasted our money on this. Came with fried onion, and thin strips of beets on it. This was one of the worst local mocos we’ve ate. Even L&L is more palatable. Saimin — 3 stars — for $ 8, your usual basic pre-made S&S saimin with spam and garnishes. I would return for their special dishes, but for the local or keiki dishes, I think I’ll pass.

After my first visit to Fat Boy’s today, I left with some certainty that I wanted to return to try some of their other menu offerings. Besides the standard plate lunch selections, they also have a breakfast menu, burgers and sandwiches, bentos, as well as various side orders to go with your meal. Since it was my first visit ever to a Fat Boy’s, I decided to order their«most popular item», the sesame garlic chicken. This plate lunch, priced at $ 8.50, comes with 2 scoops of rice, as well as a choice of mac or toss salad. My friend decided to order one of their specials of the day which was bacon-katsu sandwich with a side of onion rings. As some people have pointed out, the garlic chicken must not be made to order as my plate lunch was ready within mere minutes after ordering. I observed the steam rising continuously from the rice but not from the pieces of chicken. There was a generous portion of chicken given so I feel the price paid for the food was very reasonable. The chicken was satisfactory, but some of the pieces were dry and difficult to cut through. My friend had no complaints about his sandwich and onion rings, which made me slightly jealous since I was on the losing end of a battle with a plastic knife as my only«weapon.» LIKES: 1) Easy to read menus are displayed on flat screen monitors and are placed high enough above the counter to view clearly. 2) Credit cards accepted. 3) Clean and simple décor/ambiance. 4) Acceptable amount of seating for such a small space. The placement of the tables and chairs are positioned in a way that allows customers to walk around without feeling confined. SERVICE: Polite and friendly for the most part. Bottom Line: I was deciding whether to give 3 or 4 stars, but overall I think this review is 3.5 stars. I definitely will be back to try other menu items, stay tuned for an update.

(2.5 Stars) I had heard great things about this place so I wanted to see what da scoop was. We came here on super bowl day, so I’m guessing that’s why it was so empty, but after trying the food I was just really disappointed… When I first walked in I thought the place had really nice décor, was modern and clean. I was feeling like island bbq food that day so I figured I’d get the bento — a combo of meats. The plate included fish, brown rice, fried chicken, beef patty and what appeared to be fried orange chicken; honestly I only finished my food because I paid for it. The fish was salty and bland, the fried chicken seemed like it had been seating out for a while, and the beef patty was bland with no flavor. These foods are all foods that taste great when you go to your aunties and uncles bbq and that’s exactly what I expected — greatness. Maybe I just came on the wrong day or ordered the wrong thing, either way I don’t think I’ll be coming here again. Service: OK Prices: Inexpensive/Reasonable Hawaiian Style Meat Bento: not good

Scanning the menu made my mouth water. Unfortunately, their garlic chicken, which is supposedly their signature item, didn’t live up to the hype. The breading was hard and tough, and it was not served hot, which leads me to believe that it was not made to order. My friend said his braised short ribs were dry. My aunt had asked the staff before she ordered, if the won ton in the won ton min had seafood in it, and they said it didn’t. But when we tested one out after it arrived at our table, we discovered that it had shrimp in it. It also resembled something that you can find in the freezer section of the supermarket. My hubby’s bento looked and tasted the best out of everything we ordered. It came with furikake salmon, spam, teri hamburger steak, and a piece of fried chicken. I’d say it’s the next best thing to Zippy’s legendary Zip Pac.

The parking is plentiful. The interior is very nice for a take out joint. The service is quick and friendly. But the food is just average. I had the sesame garlic chicken and beef stew with mac and white rice. The garlic chicken was not as tasty as it looked. Its similar, but not as good as Mitsuken or Sugoi’s. Stew was ok. They only give one scoop rice, which for is not enough. I will give them another try to try some of their other items.
