Lunch: Kona Lobster Tartine Enjoyed this dish. It had chunks of lobster meat with bits of crunch from a type of vegetable they had finely cubed and mixed in with the Lobster topping. The avocado and crisp bacon peices worked with this dish along with the seared bread. My husband had the pork sandwich, we can’t remember the name, it was also good. Waiter forgot our appetizer, but no biggie. We had a nice time. I like that the meal was not heavy, but, left you feeling satisfied. If I could have this lunch on the beach on a cool northerly wind type of day… I’d be in heaven

Came here little before 12 for lunch, it was empty, but within minutes this place was packed! Line out the door! Good thing we got in before the rush. Ordered the ocean bouillabaisse, lamb French dip sandwich, and lobster moco. Service from our server Raina was great, she was friendly and explained everything to us, but the food from the kitchen was kind of slow. Was hoping the soup came out before the entrees, but it all came out together. Bouillabaisse had the really strong khaffir lime, Thai food kind of taste, so if you don’t like that then I advice u not to get it. The lamb French dip was shredded lamb, not slices or pieces of lamb. The foie gras in the lobster moco wasn’t as rich as the foie gras that you’d get at a French restaurant, but for the price of $ 45 and a big chunk of foie gras w/the lobster, I guess you can’t complain.

Okay, I admit I was skeptical at first. The low key atmosphere wasn’t super dazzling but I kept seeing so many great posts and raves about the food, that I finally had to give in. Hang on, you’re in for a treat! Its almost like you found a cool hole-in-the-wall(surrounded by high end retail goods) that serves awesome and delicious food! Who knew? To start, we stopped in for lunch and was greeted by their hostess then seated right away. Our server was excellent as well, making sure we had everything we needed, especially as my friend and I caught up on all kinds of happenings. We had just been to a wedding so there was a ton to debrief on. The food… oh…boy! We went for the special of the day, steak with mushroom quinoa salad and grilled veggies. DANG! Absolutely delicious… perfectly cooked, seasoned just right and combined in a way that even Miss Picky-Pants was loving her«oh that’s too healthy» quinoa! Then we were onto dessert, oh so many to choose from but trust me, stick with the soft serve froyo… oh…lah…la! Can’t wait to come back, I hear they are open for dinner too.

So there are mixed reviews on the froyo here. But for me, DELICIOUS. I first sampled their amazing froyo from the Forty Carrots mobile stand… it was parked on kaheka st. right at the Don Quixote crosswalk. Hey, it was free, why the heck not? It also helped that there was a super cute haole guy from pennslyvania or something manning the truck, but that’s neither here nor there :-) I tried the coffee and chocolate that day and it was so rich and flavorful, I had a hard time believing it was frozen yogurt. Now it wasn’t ben and jerry’s decadent, but still, it would hit the spot if you’re craving a sweet treat. I left feeling satisfied and impressed but not really having any intention of paying to go back for seconds. That all changed when I tried their original flavor. with fruits. Who came up with this recipe. It is like crack, I crave it… all the time. It is the perfect combination of tart and sweet. It is so hard to explain– you need to try it for yourself to know what I am talking about… its indescribable how delicious it is. Now I know it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but for me it is worth every penny. The reason I needed to dock a star b/the lack of seating for froyo paying customers. They need at least a small bar. Like another reviewer stated, I also jetted out of there to avoid spilling any froyo on their merchandise. Are we just not important enough? So what if I just want a froyo. We don’t deserve seats because we ‘just’ want some froyo? ATTENTION Bloomie’s… invest in some space for your froyo consumers!

Heard great things about this restaurant but only stopped by for dessert. Was disappointed that the only dessert they offered was various flavors of frozen yogurt with assorted toppings, no cake, no cookies, no pie, or fancy desserts, nothing but frozen yogurt. Pass! The staff are friendly, though scatter brained(how can you forget my order of a cup of coffee when the restaurant is largely empty?). Perhaps I’ll try this restaurant again for lunch or dinner another time and see if their food selection is better than their dessert selection! Meh!

DISCLAIMER: This review pertains to their amazing frozen yogurt. Hubby and I had time to spare while waiting to meet up with some friends for lunch on Sunday. Decided to check out Bloomingdales and stumbled upon this charming, little venue. Perused the menu and decided to order their frozen yogurt for a quick snack. Tried the regular($ 6) mango with coconut flakes($ 1 per topping, which I thought was a bit steep) — but it was, by far, the most delicious frozen yogurt I have ever had. The mango flavor was subtle, yet definitely present and it had a beautiful, silky smooth consistency. The coconut flakes complemented it perfectly; like a match made in heaven. Glad I only ordered their regular size — that thing was massive! Most definitely will be back for more the next time I visit. #happymama

Meh. That’s how I feel about my first(and last) forty carrots experience. The service was lackluster which matched the flavor of the yogurt. I ordered the small Cheesecake and Mango. Both flavors had just a hint of flavor. I prefer my fro yo more tart so maybe it’s just me. Approx $ 10 for a small yogurt and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was only $ 2.50 and had huge chunks of chocolate. It was rich and chewy but soft on the inside, just how I like it! If I ever come back I’m sticking with the cookie.

Been wanting to come here but it was always crowded or closed for private party. Finally came here on Monday and was not very happy. I was almost going to throw water, if I was even offered any after 10 mins of being seated. I literally had to raise my hand and ask. Manager even came out and said nothing. Btw it was not busy and there was more than enough people on the floor. Seems like they cater to the older group of people, trying to pamper them to milk them of their tips. Don’t want to rant anymore so I’ll just say I won’t be returning to sit. Yogurt is good, just get it at the counter. That’s all I’ll be going for.

How can you over charge for mediocre frozen yogurt and not allow your patrons to sit in the dining area? I’d apologize for my 5 year old dripping trails of fro yo all over the floors of your fancy schmancy store, but that’s your fault for 1) not putting the fro yo in a large enough cups to hold the stuff and 2) having a stupid policy saying patrons can’t sit at the tables right next to the fro yo café unless they also order food from the menu Back to the over charging, $ 1 for approximately a tablespoon of topping is insane. You can keep your highfalutin«40 Carrot» yogurt. I’ll stick to Menchies. I can sit down there. They give you huge bowls and I can put whatever the heck toppings I want, however much I want and not feel robbed!

ORANGE you glad?! Forty Carrots is alive and blossoming at Bloomingdales in the new Ewa wing of Ala Moana Center. After having a late breakfast at nearby Longhi’s, a friend and I explored the new wing taking in the new shops and doing some«window shopping». We decided to stop at Forty Carrots for a light lunch and to catch up a bit. LOCATION: Third floor of the new Bloomingdales. Its situated near their home décor and glassware section. My first impression was that this restaurant/eatery is quite small. Since the name of the eatery is Forty Carrots, I’d compare the area of seating to that of a rabbit hole. It seems very cramped honestly. I was wrong to assume the place would be larger. We waited for what seemed like an eternity to be acknowledged. Thankfully we were eventually approached and shown to a table by the hostess. FOOD: The server, after discovering we were first-time diners, suggested various items on the menu for lunch. Ultimately, we decided to share the Hamakua tomato salad, while I ordered the plantation iced tea and my dining companion ordered the lemon mamaki herbal tea. Firstly, we loved our drinks. I thought the iced tea was very refreshing, while my friend enjoyed the tea immensely. The colorful salad was presented on a wooden board, and served with fresh burrata and a honey balsamic vinaigrette. Since we were both still slightly full from our breakfast, the portion size was just right to fill our partial appetites. We both enjoyed he salad immensely; I especially thought the vinaigrette was quite delicious. The burrata was yummy too. SERVICE: Our server was a friendly and capable older lady. Her wide smile and enthusiastic attitude shone brightly as she welcomed us and provided some suggestions on the menu. She checked on us periodically throughout the meal, and even obliged a question we had about a tea on their menu by asking the manager if they sold it. BOTTOMLINE: A light lunch at Forty Carrots was enjoyable thanks to great company, good service and decent food and drink. Not sure if i would return though as I thought some of the menu items were pricey.

This review is going to be pretty short seeing as how I have only been here once and it was to try the famous $ 45 Loco Moco. I’m not sure if it was the special of the day, but our server said that you could add filet mignon to the Loco Moco for an extra $ 20. Well, it was a go big or go home kind of day, so I opted for the filet and wasn’t let down. The Loco Moco now had Kona lobster tail, foie gras AND filet mignon over fried rice and a black truffle madeira sauce. This was easily the single most expensive item I have ever eaten for lunch. And while it isn’t something I would get every week, at least I can say that I tried it, and it was delicious.

The good: — the service — the food The bad: — people watching you eat — a little pricey I’m a fan of Chef Jon Matsubara, so when I heard he was cooking at Forty Carrots at Bloomingdales, I knew I had to check it out! Located on the 3rd floor of the store, Forty Carrots is a casual«open air» café of sorts that has a to-go section and a sit-down section. It’s an interesting setup that makes good use of it’s limited space, but it kind of feels like you’re on exhibit… especially when people walking by are watching you eat! Service has been very positive the few times we’ve been here so far. Our waiters have been friendly and helpful, but never hover. The food is also good, though I’ve liked some dishes more than others. My favorite dish so far is the decadent, wallet busting Local Lobster Moco. There really isn’t any reason you wouldn’t like this dish! It’s just a mound of brown rice topped with lobster tail, foie gras, and a fried egg, smothered in a rich demi-glacé with black truffles. I also enjoyed the caviar and chips, the fresh oysters, and their specials. I wasn’t, however, a huge fan of the Kona Lobster Tartine. It wasn’t a bad dish, just not my taste. The frozen yogurt is pretty good though! And the GIANT chocolate chip cookie in the case? Pretty good too! So if you feel like a splurge when at Ala Moana, Forty Carrots is a good option. The service is good, the food is tasty, and it all comes with out pretense. Just a nice, casual meal that’ll make your tastebuds happy and make your wallet not so much.

Meh. Intriguing flavors but Inconsistent, lazy cooking, minimal service, bad energy, and little value for the money, makes this new addition to the Ala Moana Center just OK. Intriguing Flavors — Excellent chunky guacamole that exudes the flavor of fresh lime, and the bite of sweet onion. Vibrant and fresh. Great with the spicy chicharrones. The French Dip(braised lamb, thin slice of smoked gouda and sparse amounts of fried kale) very flavorful with pronounced lamb flavor. Oily and made more so by a non clarified jus. Inconsistent — From one guest having almost no ice and a warm iced tea while the other has a full glass of ice and almost no tea to a lobster leg sandwich(not as pictured by other Unilocalers — obviously ran out of lobster and used whatever scraps were left). Minimal Service — Friendly But just five interactions(1) take your order,(2) deliver drink,(3) deliver food,(4) clear table and deliver check,(5) return check for signature. No refills on water, no «how’s everything». Bad Energy — Layout of the small restaurant makes you feel like everyone is watching you eat. There is nothing to distract you and the perfect line of sight to neighboring tables; let’s just say, I caught myself staring at other guest. Servers rush through the aisles with a gust of air in their wake. Little Value for the Money — One glass per customer(either water or iced tea), no refills on iced tea, no bread(even for salads), a scrap lobster sandwich for $ 25, all of the above, and a suggested gratuity of 25% printed on the check. Passable for a retail store restaurant but not up to par with the other three mall anchors.

Forty Carrots is located on the third floor of Bloomingdale’s, kind of in the home department. I was surprised to see how small it was, I don’t know why, but I just assumed it would be a much larger restaurant. Service here was alright, they sat us in this like awkward corner by the front with a giant pillar in the way. I really don’t know who to explain it, but it was just weird and even hard to the waiter to take our order because he would be standing by this pillar and the host stand. The Grub. [[ AINAAWAKEA $ 30 ]] The Aina Awakea is a 3 course lunch menu. It comes with an appetizer, entrée and dessert. We decided to get 2 orders of this so we can try all the options offered. First Course: We got the Makapu juice and salad. Second Course: Two choices for Chefs Entrée, we obviously got one of each. Fish: Meat: Third Course: Frozen yogurt. Overall I thought this place was alright. The food was good, but of course a bit pricey. I also think the placement of the restaurant and is a bit odd.

Located on the third floor of Bloomies, Forty Carrots is a small café with a sit down dining area. They also offer take and go refrigerated items and frozen yogurt. Arriving at the almost empty café, I told the hostess I had a party of 4. She nicely apologized that she could only seat me when my entire party was present. I told her absolutely and waited outside the empty seating area. I know it’s policy but it’s a little absurd to implement when it’s ghost town in the restaurant so when one of my friends arrived I asked if the hostess could make an exception and let us sit and have drinks. She had me speak to her manager and he accommodated us. Thank goodness! We started off with some of their hot tea selections but they have a nice wine list as well. I ordered a cup of the bouillabaisse and the lobster tartine. The sweet server misunderstood our order and brought out only one tartine, but it was actually kismet because by the time I finished the yummy soup, I only had room for half the salad and tartine. The tartine was very good with chunks of avocado and bacon. I would order it again. Best of all, I had room for a small frozen yogurt. You can choose two flavors so I chose the coffee and cheesecake topped with oreos. The yogurt flavors change often so they are not printed on the menu. The small is large enough to share, but that didn’t stop me from almost eating all of mine. The service was great and the ambience was cheery. I liked it here, but it was a little pricey.

Today we went in to Bloomingdales for one reason: to get frozen yogurt from forty carrots. There wasn’t much of a line(maybe two or three people in front of me) so that was nice! I was worried it might be really crowded since it just opened. I ordered a small plain frozen yogurt($ 6), and oh-me-gee! It was sooooooo good! Creamy and tart– just the way I like it! $ 6 is a little expensive for the amount that you get(I don’t know if it was just the guy that served my yogurt because I saw other people’s yogurt and they seemed to get a lot more than I did), but it’s totally worth it in my opinion! I enjoyed every last bite of my frozen yogurt and am already wanting to go back for more! UPDATE: Been craving yogurt from here but the past couple of times I’ve stopped by they’ve been out of their plain flavor. Tried to get some last night but didn’t realize they close at 8pm and got there at 8:20pm =/Finally got my plain yogurt fix this morning and I was soooooo impressed with the girl who served my yogurt— I think her name is Lisa— but I seriously want her to make my yogurt every time from now on!

I had dinner with my boyfriend here. He works at Bloomies and told me it’s best to go there during dinner time when it’s slow(lunch time can be cray). I decided to try the soup of the day and the bahn mi(bloom-mi). I wasn’t very hungry, so I got my sandwich to go and only ate half of my soup. I was very disappointed with the soup. It was basically chunks of pork and tofu in a broth. The pork was dry and the broth didn’t have any flavor. I don’t think I can fairly judge the bahn mi since I didn’t eat it fresh. It tasted okay, but I was disappointed that the veggies were sparse. On the upside both the soup and sandwich were good size portions. The waiters were very friendly, but somehow we had two helping us and so they confused each other as to who had already helped us repeatedly – not a big deal though. In addition, I’ve been following around the forty carrots froyo truck around Oahu and have tried the butter pecan, coffee, and peanut butter froyo. They were all really good(although the butter pecan is a little too sweet).

Forty carrots or forty karats??? This place is cute and quaint. It also serves high quality local dishes but is a bit pricey. But I expected that since it is located in Bloomingdales which is a high end department store. They also don’t take reservations and the place seats about 30 people. It’s located on the third floor and it’s very casual. The décor makes me think of Easter! So first of all they have their yogurt which is what they’re known for. I got the plain which was nice and tart. They have a regular size $ 6 or large size $ 8. It’s an additional $ 2 for each fruit topping or $ 1 each for the other toppings. They also have freshly made juices and smoothies that range from $ 8-$ 10 which is pretty standard. It’s nice that their juices all have local names like Chee-hoo and Makapu. Their waitresses and servers were very nice and helpful. We went on the first day which was a soft opening November 15. I will say there were some kinks to work out but it was their opening day so it was to be expected. So for their food. Their executive chef is Jon Matsubara which if you don’t know he used to be the executive chef at Japengo in the Hyatt. They took a lot of effort with the menu and use a lot of local products which I love. The menu seems to have an Asian influence but definitely that farm to table concept is here. They have salads, soups, entrees and sandwiches. They have a bunched lunch for $ 30 or rather Aina Awakea which you can choose a petite juice, salad or soup, a chef entrée and frozen yogurt. That’s a pretty good deal I think. We tried the caviar and nori potato chips($ 15) which was nice and light. All the flavors went so well together with the crème fraîche. But I love fish eggs and potato chips so I may be a bit biased. We got the French dip($ 20) which was very rich but flavorful. You could not even tell it was lamb. There was no gaminess at all. We also got the Ocean Salad($ 28) which was very fresh and the dressing was nice with the mix since it wasn’t too strong or heavy. The salad had a good amount of seafood, hence the price. They have market price fish dishes but their most expensive set menu dish is a local lobster loco moco with foie gras $ 45. Overall, it’s upscale casual with local flavors and very tasty food but a bit expensive(think in between Nordstrom Café and Mariposa… more towards Mariposa). I can’t wait to come back to try other things… I just can’t come too often!

Dining with thw upper crust. First of all the most enjoyable part of the experience was Kelli, my server. She seemed to really enjoy being conversant She was able to elicit my input and then make reccomendations based upon it. There was even a *Miricle on 34th Street* reference worked into the conversation. I had the Lobster Tartine… yes it is official God has decided that I will not eat hot food today so I finally caved and enjoyed it. Plus the grapefruit tasting beer helped with that enjoyment. The food here is definately dainty. If you like Mariposa, you will like Forty Carrots. Except for the view. At Forty Carrots you see the inside of the housewares department at Bloomies… but hey it is what it is.

Forty Carrots is located on the third floor at Bloomingdale’s. So far, they’re selling yogurt, smoothies, and juices. It looked to me that the restaurant part, right next to it, should be opening up soon. They were having a pre-opening dinner for their special guests that was blocked off to the public. Five stars for the yogurt and two stars for the customer service. I was standing in front of their counter for two minutes before anyone acknowledged my presence. It wasn’t as if they were busy. I was the only patron there, with four workers standing behind the counter. Finally, this girl, asked me if I needed help. I asked to sample the mango yogurt. Then she turns her back to me and I’m nonexistent again. I pulled out my wallet, then they asked me if I wanted to order anything. Their yogurt was better than I expected. It’s offered in Plain, Coffee, Chocolate, Butter Pecan, Strawberry and Mango. I sampled the Mango and it was ok. It didn’t have that strong mango flavoring that I prefer. It was a bit bland. I decided to go with the Plain with strawberries. That was so delicious. It was creamy and had just the right amount of tartness to it. The way that they make is that they put yogurt on the bottom of the cup, strawberries in the middle, then fill the rest of the cup with yogurt to the top. Back in the day, before all the yogurt chains started popping up, there was Yami Yogurt at Ala Moana. The Plain is a complete duplicate of it. It’s $ 6 for the regular and $ 8 for the large. I got the regular and it was a fairly decent size. $ 2 extra for the fruit. $ 8 for a cup of yogurt is on the pricey side.
