Great food and excellent service! Michelle was so welcoming even though we came in right before closing.

Probably one of my favorite overall meals. Their diverse menu covers a great variety of foods that are smoked. The guava smoked pork, spicy pork in particular, is incredible. The fried rice is also on our top five choices as well as the pork spicy burger, kal bi, ribs and hamburger steak. The staff it’s always so personable and often remembers us as we return often. You can find them at their new location and it a few open markets. Definitely worth a try.

I found this place by accident while sitting at the red light, the name Guava, got my attention. So I had to check it out. I ordered the kalbi plate and some guava bars. Omg… I’m hooked ! Best smoked flavored ribs that I’ve ever had . The only drawback PARKING! But this is Hawaii, parking is scarce especially for businesses that are on side streets. I come to Hawaii once or twice a year, and this will be my first stop .ONO

This hole in the wall place has some pretty life-changing smoked meat. I tried the pork with fried rice and it was so yummy that I wanted more even tho I was full. The reason for the 3 stars was cause they forgot the meat on my coworkers plate when we ordered for take out. It was an unpleasant surprise, so just make sure you check your order.

Guava smoked is one of those hidden Jewels, this is definitely somewhere you would never go and less you found it on Unilocal. If you’re looking for fresh and you’re looking for smoked and you’re looking for that little hideaway I highly recommend you visit Guava smoked. They close at one or two so make sure you go there for lunch.

I haven’t been to the brick & mortar location for Guava Smoked yet, but I discovered them at the Farm Fair, and have also found them at the Blaisdell Farmer’s Market. I try to eat high protein/low carb meals, and am a big fan of smoked meat(it’s not something I’ll cook myself), so Guava Smoked has exactly what I’m looking for in a meal. They have both meat only or meat and salad options. The food is presented nicely and tastes great. Service has always been great as well. There is usually a wait for the food, so you may need to plan ahead and be patient. It’s worth it!

Came here with a colleague of mine and picked up a pork plate. The plate comes with two scoops of what seems to be a mixture of white and brown rice, salad, and meat. I was expecting the pork to have a different flavor but I swear to you I thought I was eating a honey ham. Straight up. Kind of disappointed. The salad dressing was good. Parking is almost non-existent but you can find street parking. Overall this place is o.k. I might go back and try a different dish.

This is my second time trying this place out. I love any type of smoked meat and its good to know this place is close to where I work. I tried the mix plate with smoked pork and butter fish with smoke pork fried rice. The smoked pork was super soft and the butterfish was a home run for me. It was butter fish collars but belive me there is a lot of meat and flavor too. The smoke pork fried rice didnt disappoint either. Also the chili bowl with smoke pork was ono as well. It really gave the chili a unique flavor. On an impulse buy I saw the guava bars on the counter and had to try it out. It could’ve used a little more guava and less bar but was still ono nonetheless. Its good to know this place uses biodegradable trays for their meals and use the invasive guava trees to smoke all their meats. Environmentally concience food establishments are always a plus in my book. Very nice people with friendly customer service. Inside is nice and clean with just a few tables. Parking will be a challenge because theres only four stalls in front. Theres also a sign on Kalihi st but the entrance is on Republican st.

Me: «Oh no! There they are! The Pearly Gates.» Saint Peter: «Welcome! How may I help you!» Me: «Hello your holiness! I think I just died!» Saint Peter: «Oh! Sorry to hear about that! Tell me what happened!» Me: «Well you see, I’m a member of this thing called Unilocal and it appears that my tragic demise came because of me reading a Review of the Day by Ryan M. about a place called Guava Smoked. I love smoked meat and his review stirred by curiosity.» Saint Peter: «Go on! I’m listening!» Me: «So today I’m in the area and decide to do a drive by, just to see where Guava Smoked is located. I’m on Kalihi Street and just as I hit the intersection, the light turns yellow so I floor my gas pedal to get through the intersection at Nimitz, heading makai. I get distracted, when I see this big sign on the corner of a building at Kalihi and Republican that reads. «Guava Smoked» Saint Peter: «So did you get broadsided by a semi speeding through the light? Go on!» Me: «No! I turn left onto Republican and to my surprise there is a parking space open in front of the restaurant. There’s a truck ready to turn in, coming from the opposite direction; I cut him off and zoom right into the parking stall.» Saint Peter: «Was the other driver mad and furious? Did he flip you the finger and swear at you? Did he get out of his truck and beat the crap out of you?» Me: «No! I walk into the restaurant and scoped out the place. It is a small quaint little hole-in-the-wall with about four tables. Everything is so neat and the dining area and kitchen look sparkling clean.» Saint Peter: «Yawn! …go on! Me: «I check out the menu and everything on the menu is smoked. Pork, chicken, salmon belly, butterfish collar, turkey tails, duck, kalbi. They even got smoked hamburgers! I see their Guava Smoked Mixed Plate — $ 12.00; on the menu wall. You can choose two items: Pork, chicken, salmon bellies, butterfish, ribs or duck(Wednesday and Thursday only). Price include two scoops hapa rice(white/brown), mac salad or nalo greens with creamy vinaigrette dressing. Add $ 2.00 for all salad or fried rice. Add an egg or extra dressing for $ 1.00 more. I order the Smoked Mixed Plate — Chicken and butterfish collar. About three minutes later, out comes my lunch. The lady at the counter shows me my order. Take a look at this picture! I can’t help myself and shout: «That looks to die for!» The Sales lady ask: «First time here?» Me: «Yes!» I pay my $ 12.00(no tax) and am on my way. As I’m driving home, the smoky aroma of my lunch sends me on this heavenly plateau of anticipation and arousement. I’m restlessly eager to dig into them smoked pieces of enticement. I’m going twenty mph over the speed limit; zooming through intersections and can’t wait to get home. I park my car and sprint into my apartment and head straight for the dining table. On the top of the lunch container is written«Val». That’s me! I flip open the box; grab for the smoked chicken drumstick and take a bite. The aroma, the stickiness of the chicken skin, the smoky, sweet, moist taste of the chicken arouses all my senses. I chew, my mouth waters and I feel like I’m floating in air. I feel everything is in slow motion. I feel like I died and have gone to heaven; which is the reason I’m here. Saint Peter! I’m I dead? Can smoked food like what I tasted at Guava Smoked be so good, that it makes you feel like you died and went to heaven?» Saint Peter: «Val! Val! Val! Let me ask you a question. What is your religious affiliation?» Me: «I’m Buddhist!» …(Slapping my forehead). I get it! I can’t be talking to you and standing in front of the Pearly Gates. I’m not dead; just enlightened! That was just one hell of a bite of smoked chicken!» Saint Peter: «Yes Val you’re not dead. Heaven is for Christians. But Val, would you do me a favor. Write a review on Unilocal about your experience. Hopefully someone on Unilocal that’s a Christian will bite into one of the delightful meats they smoke at Guava Smoked and think he or she died and has gone to heaven. Tell that Christian to bring a Guava Smoked Mixed Plate of Chicken and Salmon Belly for me and I will gladly let him/her through those Pearly Gates. And if that person just happens to die on Wednesday or Thursday; tell that person I want the duck instead of the Salmon Belly. I will be eternally grateful because… we don’t have anything«Smoked» here in heaven… if you know what I mean!»

Tucked away in Kalihi. I hear that they set up at different farmers market food truck locations. I had the SMOKEDLOCOMOCOBOWL with the spicy patty. The burger had a nice smoke on it and was the right level of spicy. It comes on a bed of rice with white gravy. Good price and like no other loco mock that I’ve ever had and I love me some loco mocos. Other than the smoked hamburger patty there was smoked beef, chicken, pork and many other meats served in a variety to plate lunches/bowls. They use guaiwi branches to smoke their meat. If you are expecting a beautifully decorated restaurant, this is not your place. It’s a hole in the wall in the best kind of way. This place is only open from 10am to 2pm — so check online for where they are set up that day. I need to go back to try their fried rice(which they ran out of by 1pm). The reviews say it’s the best thing to eat. You can substitute it for any other plate/bowl that comes with white rice.

Get a stamp card– 10 stamps gets you a free shirt or hat each stamp = $ 10 purchase I must live under a rock because only recently did I learn of this place known as Guava Smoked. It was a worth while find. Everything on their menu is «smoked» and very juicy and delicious. A bit pricey but worth its weight in smoke! I have a habit of trying everything on the first go around(it’s actually a bad habit of mine as I end up eating with my eyes instead of my tummie) But here goes: 1 order each appetizer style(10 oz portions): smoked pork, chicken, salmon, butterfish collars, duck AND Fried Rice(2 orders) Tab $ 81 Meats moist and firm. I use the duck as my measure because Duck, prepared without accuracy or attention MAY end up very dry. Guava’s preparation left the meat moist, firm and very tasty. Rice? I will have to describe it as «interesting». The rice was flavorable and there was something else in it… I think either a barley or quinoa or something other than rice grains. Whatever it was, it was good. They sell frozen meats as well(turkey tails is my next try). It might be pricey but it would make a good gift if you heading toward the continent. They open at 10AM. Parking is probably okay(The have a few stalls in front of their entrance) as long as it’s not at peak lunch hour in which case, call ahead for take out. Double parking for a few minutes would be doable. If you plan to dine in(which you can) try off peak hours or you will be frustrated with the parking. Credit cards accepted; they have Square!

I have a dream of building my own backyard smoker and if I did, what wouldn’t I try to smoke in it? But until that day comes, I will continue to buy the Spicy Pork and other goodies from Guava Smoked. They have a Plate Lunch, Ala Carte and Catering Menu, but we usually buy the frozen smoked meats to take to BBQs or camping and even on the plane. They are packed well for travel and will last frozen until you’re ready to grill, broil, or fry them.

Do you love your meat? I sure do(Meat, not your meat). I don’t know of many places that offer a full menu of smoked meat. Let me know if you do. Food My wife and I ordered the mixed plate of smoked pork and smoked butterfish. I was a little worried that the butterfish wouldn’t be the same since it’s smoked. It actually turned out to be very tender and the flavor packed a punch. The same goes for their pork. The pork can be made spicy or mild. We decided on spicy and it was the perfect level for my liking. The spice is similar to the level of spicy garlic chicken. Their menu also offers lunch bowls, Pupu bowls pupu(you know. like poke, for picking on when you’re drinking), and frozen meats which is good to bring to a bbq. ENVIRONMENT They have a sit down area that reminds me of Grace’s Inn except the color is yellow. Like most hole in the wall places, PARKING is a hassle. They have about 3 stalls but that’s obviously not enough; especially during peak hours. I would definitely use the getaway car method for this place. PRICE for the quality along with their customer SERVICE is definitely well above average in my opinion. I’ll be coming back for sure to try more items on the menu.

I have been trying to come to Guava Smoked for months now, unfortunately they have extremely limited hours so they would always be closed when I drove by. They operate only from 10am-2pm and they very quickly run out of items so be advised to go earlier rather than later. They are located near sand island on Kalihi street about one block in from Nimitz. I expected the food here to be good, but I was completely blown away by how much it surpassed my expectations. Everything we ordered was excellent. We tried the salmon belly, butterfish and pork and all of them were quite delicious. The salmon especially was fatty, crispy and succulent. The real treat though, was the fried rice. There were only two scoops left when we got there so we all had to share. It was quite possibly the best fried rice I have ever had. It tasted like they took all of the bits leftover after they chopped the smoke meat, threw it in the fried rice and then fried it in the oil drippings from the smoked meat as well. It was just amazing. I will definitely be going back here, and I will hopefully make it there on a Wednesday or Thursday so that I can try the Guava Smoked Duck as well. Overall, this might be the best bbq on the island. Definitely give it a try.
