«Every weekday, including holidays, over 300 caring volunetters deliver hot food to more than 300 clients. Our volunteers are often the only people our clients talk with or visit with for that day.»(July 2007) From what I understand, HMoW has been around since 1979 or so and the bulk of their funding still comes from non-government sources, in the form of contributions, donations, and so on. As with all of the donations I make, I try to closely examine the efficiency and overhead associated with these non-profit organizations(especially the cancer-related ones but that’s another rant which is not appropriate to delve into here). In any case, there are times when this«urge to examine» simply has to take a back seat and you just follow your heart. I’ve seen HMoW in action and these folks are the best. A wonderful, much-needed, and under-appreciated mission.
