Like the others have said, this is a great place to study. A lot of information can be found in an online database so it’s not really a place to go find up-to-date books but that probably depends on your field of study. The place is pretty quiet most of the time with the occasional students that just don’t get it. My biggest complaint is that it closes too early sometimes, which makes me wish that I had gone to UH instead because I end up using their libraries. Tuition keeps going up and I feel that they should extend the hours. I like the computers that they have here. The screens are big enough so that you can usually view 2 windows comfortably at once and the multipurpose copying machine allows you to scan files onto a thumb drive at various resolutions. I usually come here to take care of personal things that require printing, scanning, or copying. The staff here is friendly and they’ll point you in the right direction or lend you a thumb drive.

As a recent alumna of Hawaii Pacific University, I will definitely miss this library in Downtown Honolulu. Unlike other conventional libraries, Meader library is actually on several floors of the LB building of HPU. It starts on the second floor and spans to the fifth floor, I believe. I used to frequent the second floor library and spend hours on end studying for exams, finishing last-minute papers(*guilty), or just plain sleep because of sleep deprivation as known to many students. Of course, Meader library has books, computers, printers, copiers, and many desks and tables that is expected of any library. Some quirks of Meader library is that there are several rooms that may be requested for two hours for group discussions or assignments. Lol, I remember one evening when my friend and I were sharing earphones to watch a video on YT on my laptop and it definitely was not school-related. One of the librarians or employees approached us and suggested that we use one of the rooms to hook the laptop to the flat-screen TV so that we could watch because she said that it looked as if we were struggling to watch on the laptop. We informed her that it was okay and that it wasn’t school-related and she kindly laughed that it didn’t have to be school-related to use the room. And so of course we took advantage and used the room. :-P On a later occasion, we watched Korean dramas on the TV and it was totally fine with the staff. Oh, how I’ll miss this. Haha. Another perk of the library is that light snacks and beverages are allowed! Well, at least on the second floor. Foods with aromas and heavier meals can be enjoyed on the upper floors. I remember when no food whatsoever was not allowed at all, so I appreciated when this change went into effect. And some other tips for current and incoming students: ~There are several Apple computers on the second floor for Mac users ~Many group and individual desks available throughout ~Category of books are assigned to different parts of the levels of the building, so may need to check with librarian to locate the type of book you need ~Opens at 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., most of the time. Two weeks before final exams, second floor is open until midnight ~Won’t be allowed to enter building before 8 a.m.(only if you have a class before then in the building), but you can go to the Mezz floor and sit and relax at the table until the library opens(I used to do this and the guard was okay with it. :-) HPU always implements changes to its provisions for students, so take advantage of them!~

For a University library, it is not very big. Only three floors. It does not have everything. If you need to find books for projects or reports, your better off going to the State Library or to Hamilton Library at UH. It is mostly used as place to study or to use the computers when the computer lab is full. It’s only for HPU students and staff.
