I rarely provide my review, unless there is something exceptional. In this case it is that I received an exceptionally rude reception. The door was closed and as my mother and I approached, the door was opened. I started to ask to enter and for a consultation, instead the door opener waved her hand for us to move away so a customer could enter. Then she refused to listen, waved us off and closed the door. I hadn’t even made any request. I think there was a language barrier, but I also think they are only looking for a certain type of clientele. Really put off on the rudeness, as it was rude in any language or culture.

I have been to this place from April this year, like 5 times already. The location is convenient, you can park at Eaton square parking. Indoor, very clean and tidy. No noise, good taste of music. Hot Japanese tea and light refreshments are served. Many vogue magazines. Erica gives great shampoo washing and head massage. Love it. My stylists are Yuriko and Risako, hard to say who’s better, both dedicated professional and gave me nice hair cut. Also the Kamaaina discount is viable here. A salon you definitely should try out.

This is my first visit to hinae salon and I was not disappointed. Before getting your haircut, you have the option of getting your hair washed, do it! It’s so relaxing, while they wash your hair, they also give you a really good scalp and neck massage. My stylist was yuriko and she’s so nice! I know there was a review about how there’s a language barrier because all the staff there mainly speak Japanese but I found that most of them could speak English well enough to communicate. Anyway back to the cut.. . The style I wanted was a whimsical layered cut and yuriko was able to give me exactly what I wanted. She thinned out my overly abundant Asian hair making it much lighter, added plenty of layers and lots of texture and most importantly, she made my hair balanced! No more lopsided head! Yuriko also showed my how to properly blow dry and style my hair, which is a big help. They charge by the length of your hair and you add to that depending on what you want done(digital perm, coloring, etc) and they give you kamaaina discount! Although this place is a bit pricy, definitely give them a try!

Ladies, you know how you’re taking a risk by trying out a new salon and then always end up going back to your old place that you were originally trying to veer away from because the new place didn’t meet your expectations? Well, I felt the same way. After I moved to Hawaii, I was in desperate need of a haircut. I stalled my haircut because I was afraid of leaving a salon with some crazy do that I didn’t want. BUT life’s about taking chances… and I took my chances with Hinae Salon. And the results… dun dun dun… so glad I did! I came in for a cut and perm with Yuriko, who I may add is the sweetest stylist ever. We discussed my options of doing a regular cold perm vs a hot digital perm, all the pro’s and con’s, and which option would be more suitable for my hair type. Hinae is one of a few salons offering the new technology of digital perm from Japan. Unfortunately, I opted for the cold perm because that was more fitting for my hair, though I really wanted to try the digi perm. Yuriko had warned me that my hair may not hold up the curls because it’s just so darn straight. During the process, Yuriko was so attentive and precise with my cut and timing of the perm. After the rinse, she set my hair with a curling iron and I was speechless. For the first time ever, I fell in love with my hair do! It was voluminous, vuluptuous, and damn sexy. You bet I left with a smile. With a perm, you can’t wash your hair for 2 days. When I got around to washing it, my hair came out completely straight. Perm FAIL! But not to worry, I called the Salon and they booked me in the next available appointment. Only downside is I had to go in twice, but the second time was a fix-it at no charge. Now I wake up with beautiful curls and don’t ever need to turn on the curling iron, LOVEIT!

I’ve been going here for over a year now and I just love it. The stylists are very skilled and listen to you. I usually just get hair cuts, but at my last visit I got a digital perm. It was about $ 200, but worth it. They also offer kamaaina discount. I can’t recommend this place enough :)

I’ve been to almost all the Japanese salons in Waikiki — and Risako is the best! I’ve been seeing her over 3 years now. It can be a little pricey(cuts from $ 60 – 80) compared to some salons, however it’s worth it since I always come out happy. She’s always done a great job cutting, and I’ve once got a «digital perm» — the cold perm mentioned in the other’s post. It was loose curl like you’ve used a curling iron, and all you have to do in the morning is «crunch» it with your hands, and it looks like you’ve spend some time curling it. I’m planning to go back to her soon… my hair is in dying need of a haircut!

My friend from Japan recommended this salon to me because I always complimented her hair. I always thought she spent hours curling her hair in the mornings to look so perfect for class. But it turns out she got a cold perm and she said it’s so easy to style everyday. I immediately called the salon to make an appointment with Risako(my friend’s stylist for over 10 years). It was a little difficult to find the salon because eaton square is not a very happening place. Once I found it I felt like I was in Japan! Everyone in the salon, stylists and clients were all speaking japanese. I am not japanese and felt lost in translation! lol! It’s ok everyone was friendly and offered me japanese fashion magazines like JJ my favorite! Risako is very friendly and made me feel very comfortable :). My hair had been damaged from numerous dye jobs and she did not recommend the perm for me at the moment because it will damage my hair. I was bummed but decided to get color and cut. I appreciated the honesty! I showed her a pic from the japanese magazine and she styled my hair just like the picture! it was AHMAZING!!! I loved my hair! Since then I’ve been back twice and have another appointment at the end of the month. The prices range from the length of your hair and what you have done. The cut and color for me came out to $ 120 which is not bad compared to other salons i’ve been too and I loved the results :)

A classmate pointed this Japanese salon out to me since it was right across the street from where I live! I love when stylists are fast and skilled. I also wanted a quiet place that catered to what you wanted done instead of trying to convince you what needs to be done. My haircut turned out exactly the way I wanted it to look and my stylist, Yuri, was extremely nice. This salon is a branch of the original salon located in Roppongi, Tokyo. This is as authentic as it gets. They even give Kamaaina discount! LOVE!
