Hiram’s Chevron

Long ago I used to get my own safety checks. Long ago I would get my own safety checks and the men doing the checking would be condescending or rude or try to sell me things I did not need. That caused me great anxiety, enough to want to never have to get a safety check again.
Ever.
However.
Police also give me anxiety. I hate driving in front of one. I hate driving next to one. I’ve never been given a ticket (as I am a stellar driver, thank you), but have been a passenger to many a ticket of my husband’s (who is God-​awful with police and has an ability to receive tickets even when he has done absolutely nothing wrong), and as a non-​confrontational human being who avoids scolding at all costs I HATE being pulled over by police and that gives me the most anxiety of all.
So when my safety check surprise-​attack expired on me, this filled me with anxiety and led to me saying to my husband «I TOLD YOU TO GET THE SAFETY CHECK! AND NOW YOU CAN’T BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO DAYS OFF!!! AAAARGH! YOU HAVE RUINED EVERYTHINGGGG!!!»
Why yes, I AM known for my maturity.
When placing all of the blame on my husband did not make a safety check miraculously appear, I was so fraught with nervousness that finally I convinced myself that I COULD GET MY OWN SAFETY CHECK. You know, like everyone else in the world. Like a damned adult.
It took a tremendous amount of convincing. It sounded a bit like this:
«You can do it, Angela. You can just woman-​up and get your own fricken safety check. There are ignorant 17 year-​olds, who think live music is played by DJs, getting safety checks. Look at all of your mom’s aged friends. THEY get safety checks. They probably can’t even use Facebook. For Christ’s sake, you lived in London by yourself. You’ve danced in almost nothing in front of audiences. You’ve pushed human beings out of your vagina, SURELY you are courageous enough to get a safety check! You can do it! YOU CAN DO IT!»
It seriously took days.
I am aware that I need therapy. Foot the bill and I am THERE.
Finally, Unilocal told me that Hiram’s Chevron was awesome and full of aloha and that Hiram would be the best safety checker EVARRRRRrrrrrr. So that is where I went.
I arrived and balked at the teeny lot the Chevron was located on. First I parked my car on the wrong side, then I wedged myself in next to the gas pumps and felt bad for blocking gas business, while in the meantime other vehicles pulled in and made a line-​crowd I was definitely not in. But Hiram, bless his soul, made everyone move since I was next and I am happy to report that I, Angela Young, successfully received a safety check in this fine year of 2016.
Hiram was SO warm and SO kind. He did not laugh when I did not know how to turn on my highlights (I suppose I don’t use those) and just told me «Don’t drive at night.» Are we suppose to use high-​beams at night? Is that why I can’t see jack squat? I though they were only for driving in the countryside or drug-​ridden jungles to prevent mauling animals.
Anyhow.
I paid $ 25 and he didn’t want the extra $ 5 and insisted I buy something for the baby with it (My youngest was in the backseat). I bought her a cookie. And then I ate it. KIDDING. Kidding. Mostly.
He really is the best.
I’ll have you know that I not only conquered debilitating anxiety to get a safety check, but I also RETURNED an item at Costco AND bought groceries AND filled out some forms for my kids summer stuff. I also cleaned the toilet.
Boy did I adult the bejeebers out of that day.

Went here to get my safety check and it was the best experience I have ever had getting a safety and the best price. Hiram the owner is so unbelievably nice, helpful and caring! The other mechanic there was also nice enough to help me start my car even though he was on his lunch break. Great service from people who care is hard to come by these days and I am so glad to have found Hiram! I’ll be back for all my gas/​service/​safety needs.

Come here for your safety check! Hiram is very nice and he does a pretty good job remembering faces. Also, Kevin helped me try to diagnose my car when the check engine light started flashing and didn’t charge me a diagnostic fee! Nice guys at this place and great service!

As a child we lived right next door and we use to always buy candy. They would always be so nice to us. They’ve seen us all grow up and always took care of us. Even now as adults.
We always get our safety checks done here and they do it quickly and just give us a call when it’s done. We just live close by so it is very convenient for my step dad who actually picks the cars up and does all these kinda stuff for us. But I’ve always loved coming to this chevron I feel comfortable here and everyone’s so nice !
If we ever need something checked out or done to our cars we go to Hiram or Keith and they get the job done.

live about 7 minutes away, was looking for a place to fix my trunk lock, gave them a call and i am scheduled to bring in my car tomorrow, and the lady said she would give me an estimate over the phone.

I had the dust panel dragging under my car, I stopped in and they fixed it with hardly any wait.

Convenient to my house and entrance onto the H1 freeway heading westbound and to Pali highway heading windward.
Not a ton to say other than they offer mechanic services as well as fuel and snacks.
My interaction with the staff has been minimal since I tend to only get gas using my credit card … Yep just the way I like it easy breezy.
They do offer Safeway rewards for up to 20 cents per gallon

After see review I call them, want make appointment. Lady answer phone tell me I don’t need just come. Ok, I live 5 min from them I drove there! Front of me was already 3 cars parking! What I understand should be other hour waiting. That not excellence service, is misleading !

My work place does business with Hiram’s, and I always have positive experiences with them. Hiram, Keith and Becky are just real nice, standup people. I also bring my personal vehicle to fill in gas and Hiram always has been helpful when I asked questions and I feel like he just embodies that local aloha spirit that is missing from many businesses now a days.

Quick, efficient and friendly service! At times, I have felt that some male mechanics/​dealership service consultants have tried to take advantage of me (i.e., recommending new brakes or tires when not necessary) because I am a woman and clueless about cars. Not Hiram, he treats everyone with aloha! I will definitely go back to see Hiram for my future safety checks.

This is a great place to get your safety check if you’re in downtown. I was super late on getting mine (I won’t tell you how late I was… thank God I realized it early enough) but I went around 1230PM and there were a few cars ahead of me. It didn’t take long for Hiram to get to me though. I liked that he adhered to «first come, first serve.» I didn’t realize someone was waiting before me bc she was parked in a stall and I thought I was next but then Hiram just nicely asked me to park in the stall after the lady pulled out because she was there before me.
He was like, «Oh I almost forgot da lady! Sorry, you next afta her! I forgot!»
My blinker bulb was all wonky but he fixed that in a jiffy for $ 5. $ 20 safety check = standard.
+1 for the authentic local feel, complete with charming, pidgin-​speaking owner (Hiram)

Finally having just shipped my car from Illinois I needed to go get my car registered. But first I needed a safety check.
Hiram is very nice, knowledgeable, and helped me out on the procedure I needed to get my car registered and everything. And talking to the few people waiting to get their safety checks done also they seemed to like him as well because they have been going to him for their safety checks for at least 10 years.
I think from now on every year I will go here to get my safety check done.
He only does safety checks Mon-​Fri 9−2pm except on Wednesdays.

Hiram (the owner) is a sweet guy and treats his customers with a lot of aloha. The service was fast and excellent! Highly recommend Hiram’s!

EEK! My gas light went on and I had driven a few miles prior to that. I am very adamant in going to Chevron because I want to use my Safeway rewards.
It was self serve & I never had to go in to pay so I can’t really say much about service. It was easy drive in and out.

Just moved back to town and needed to get a safety check for my car. I searched for a good olé fashion service station like they had many years ago to avoid getting ripped off by the larger name places. Esp… when if you go to a tire place suddenly you don’t pass because you need new tires, when I’ve just replaced them or you go to a muffler place and need something replaced that they do… hmmmm
THANK GOODNESS I FOUND HIRAM! Good service, nice person, clean station like the good ones we used to have here. Hiram explained everything I needed to do to get my safety check and registration since I just drove off the docks.
He went over and beyond to even make a contraption to hold the front plates since I came from a state that didn’t need front plates.
For all my vehicle needs I will be going to Hiram. Even driving the distance from Waimanalo to School street was totally worth it.

In a great hurry, with temporary insurance papers deemed satisfactory by State Farm, I took a half day off of work to take my car in for a safety check,
Upon arriving at a very busy Chevron, teasingly, Hiram himself said, «Safety check? Pause with a smile. Mmmmm, OK!» Fast, courteous, I think while I was there he processed 3 – 4 cars safety checks.
Turns out I needed a part from the dealership but while waiting, HIram changed my cigarette fuse (for laptop charger) the fuse for my overhead light and will complete my safety check as soon as my ordered part is picked up.
In and out. Quick, simple, fast, done. Thanks Hiram! No wonder I’ve heard such great things about you! They’re all true!

Mr Hiram is incredibly helpful when ever I get my safety check done. They are a full service station and do repairs to safety checks. Its a good stop on the way into town.
When you are there ask him about his golf game. hahahahha

Small Chevron Service Station located near Punchbowl on School St. The Gas Prices are decent, minor repairs and safety checks are done here. Hiram and his staff are really friendly and make you feel at ease.

I prefer riding the bus more than driving but when I do drive a car and am low on gas, Chevron is my go-​to place.
I like this particular Chevron because it’s near my house. When I’m low on gas, I can drive there without worrying too much. The gas prices are decent as well. They kept the prices low when gas sky rocketed during that one summer a few years back. :) The owner, Hiram, also has an auto shop so they do mechanic services for cars. My family has known him for a few years now and have used his mechanic services for our family car. Never disappoints. He’s a very positive, honest, friendly person and will always talk stories or say hi to you. I was also informed that this location does safety checks. Unfortunately, it is only open M-​F from 8−5pm and only if Hiram is there.
