They were great in the beginning, but the one worker there tried to pet my service dog and I asked nicely for him not to, then 5 minutes later he found my husband and I in the store and yelled at me for bringing in a dog they can’t pet. It’s people like this that make it hard to go anywhere safely. Will never ever go back.

Better run than the previous Magnum shop but that’s not saying much. Ammo is super pricey! You need to buy the ammo there to use on their range. It is nice that they have a range and classes. The range is a little bit dangerous. I put a round down range and a piece came back and hit the guy behind me and he started bleeding right by his nose! I’ve had shrapnel come back and make a hole in my pants also. Beware!

I was almost turned off by earlier Unilocal reviews of Honolulu Firearms. However, the training sounded most appropriate for what we needed. My wife and I are retired military who both qualified as handgun experts while on active duty. However, we needed the course to purchase firearms in Hawaii and it has been quite a few years since we have fired a pistol. We attended the Basic Pistol Certification workshop taught by Russell Tanji. It is an all Saturday class taught from 9 – 4 conducted every other week. First of all, Russell is a certified firearms forensics expert who frequently testifies as an expert witness in Hawaii trials involving firearms. Second, he leads the class through the required material in an enthusiastic and exciting way. Each concept is dealt with verbally and then with hands on demonstration for every class member. Third, this is a practical home self-defense course geared to everything you must know to use a handgun safely and legally protect yourself and your family in the event of a home invasion. Fourth, Russell leads you through the Hawaii State Firearms regulations and registration procedures so you are well prepared in case you decide to purchase a handgun. Finally, there is no attempt to sell any brand of handgun; no sales pitch at all. The firing range activities are concentrated around the home self-defense scenario. First, students fire a .22 target pistol to get used to the sound and action in the range. After familiarization firing a Beretta, Sig Sauer, Glock, and one other pistol at short-range targets, Russell introduces stress firing to simulate real world time necessities. Students are given 2.5 seconds to fire five rounds into a simulated attacker target at close range. After the range experience, students take the course examination that qualifies them for an affidavit to acquire a handgun permit. All in all, time and money well spent.

These guys have a great selection of firearms. That being said, they’re also expensive. It’s hawaii, I get that it costs to have them shipped here, but some of the prices are kind of ridiculous. I can buy a trijicon mro for $ 500 with mount and shipping online(awesome red dot btw) it’s quite a bit more expensive there. The range is great though, small but still fun. Just make sure you wear pants and have good ear protection. It gets real loud if you have poor hearing pro.

I get to the range every couple of years, just practice, not trained really. I explained this to them and they were great, price was good, Instructor GUYtook a lot of time to show me everything, I did target practice, short range practice rapid fire,(I did mention I live in Chicago!) and then distance target, fast. He was Very Helpful and gave lots of great practical instruction, so I did my best shooting and got a lot of learning out of it. All I paid for was range use gun rental and bullets, so I really appreciate that he took the time to show me so much, for my benefit. Kudos to the new management for being organized, accurate on pricin and efficient, and many thanks to Guy for being So Helpful to a woman at the range. If you want to learn, or learn more, go see that GUY! — Josie.

I really enjoyed the basic firearms safety course. We got a lot of range time and hands on experience with loading and unloading pistols in a safe environment. The range is nice and has excellent ventilation system. Sales staff is also very friendly and patient with people new to handguns.

Great employee’s with vast knowledge. Prices are about as good as they will get on the Island. Bring your own firearm or rent from their selection. Range fees and gun rentals are substantially cheaper than the tourist locations in Waikiki. The range ammo I use for my .45 is only a few dollars more expensive per box than my home range on the mainland. Would recommend to anyone.

My first time coming to honolulu firearms and range. An awesome gun store to come and just talk about guns and shooting. The workers are very knowledgeable and friendly. I am only a beginner when it comes to handguns and talking with Guy made it very easy and comfortable to talk with about picking hand guns and even shooting them. My girlfriend and I went in just to price around and the service was so good that we shot a couple of hand guns with some help from Guy. He gave us VIP member cards to shoot more at their range. He answered every question that I had and he made it very easy to understand things. This place also has gun classes you can take from Derwin and Russell, very knowledgeable guys as well. Their weapons are a little pricey to me but I will definitely be back to shoot more at their indoor range and just to converse and learn from these guys. Rookie or veteran, you can come to this place and talk to these guys comfortably.

I’m not an avid gun person, nor do I see any real appeal to shooting. I leave that up to my very well weapons trained, attorney husband. He protects me physically and legally :) Parking does suck but they have pretty good hours. It wasn’t crowded and the workers were also very nice and accommodating. My husband got to bring in his guns and shoot for a few hours. The prices are reasonable. He liked it better than Koko head range and again the hours are better. He enjoyed himself and I enjoyed watching him in action. We will be coming back.

Reasonable price $ 15 all day. Bought 50 rounds of .232 .40 and 22LR for range use instead of driving all the way to Koko Head.(You can also rent their guns) Polite crew, very helpful. Will definitely come back again. Thank you gotta love the smell of gun powder on a weekday! ahhh therapy…

Pros: Indoor pistol and shotgun range, friendly service, knowledgeable and friendly RSO on-site Cons: Parking, required to use ammo purchased on-site Great spot for some recoil therapy. Clean, modern facility with a friendly and knowledgeable staff. Range time is reasonably priced and ammo prices are consistent with market prices. The RSO on-site is professional and takes safety seriously with being abrasive or rude.

This establishment has really turned around since the prior manager. Bottom line I’m coming back! Friendly caring staff now and Derwin helped us out a lot and we appreciate that so me and my girlfriend couldn’t be happier only down side was parking but it was worth the walk. Thanks Derwin!

In my first review /opinion, I hadn’t been there and was skeptical on how the business was being run since the previous owner. Today I went in to make use of their indoor range to function check a 1911 I just picked up and I must say, I couldn’t be happier. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and I had a great shooting session. To top it off, they even extended an Law Enforcement discount to me. To me this was awesome and regardless of having to purchase their ammo, it was worth it as it saved me a trip all the way to Koko Head and allowed me to perform certain drills that you can’t do at the public range. Hats off to these guys, they really have turned this business around :)

My first time at the gun range was spent at the Honolulu Fire Arms and Range. I have to admit I was extremely intimidated prior to my arrival but that all changed! The service was beyond excellent. The man in charge was very kind and respectful. My boyfriend and I were there with a friend who was giving us shooting lessons. The clerk was kind and respectful to our needs and was very accommodating. There are only 4 lanes to shoot at, so the range is very small. There is also a gun store attached to the range. Bathrooms and a soda machine are located inside and there is also a viewing room to watch those shooting!

Visited H.F.& R. For the first time today and the experience was great. I was greeted by friendly staff and he explained to me the rules of the range and in about 5 min I was already shooting my first shots. There are I think 4 stalls to shoot in so you’ll have to wait for an opening if they’re busy. I don’t know exactly how busy they can get since this was my first time. First think I noticed of course was it was way louder than an outdoor range obviously, but if your hearing protection is good then you should have no problem getting used to it. After putting 100 rounds through my gun I was done and I had some questions about my firearm I asked them, which they were very helpful in answering. Anyways pros of this place: closer than driving all the way to koko head if you come from the west side, awesome staff, lots of accessories & different types of ammo, good selection of firearms, free targets if you use the range and you can use almost any caliber. You also don’t have that 5 bullet limit or no rapid fire rule like koko head. And you can rent a firearm and test it before you buy though I’m not sure exactly how many types they have available. Cons: parking was hard to find, indoor range is louder than an outdoor range, only 4 or 5 stalls and you gotta buy their ammo for the range but they sell it to you at a discount. Anyways bottom line is this place was great. Definitely gonna visit again and probably become a range member.

So, I am a newbie when it comes to guns and shooting. I had never shot or even held a gun in my life prior to coming here today. You can only imagine my anxiety about looking ignorant and fear of shooting myself or worse, breaking the gun! I had called around to some places and figured out this was the cheapest place by far. I called them up and a man had answered and was so very nice. He answered all my questions and said they’d be able to help me. Customer Service: When I first walked in the man behind the counter was busy so I just walked around with my friend. A man came out and asked if I had been helped and when I said no said he’d find me help. At first I thought the mam behind the counter was a bit rude but he just had that manly sense of humor and when I finally caught on he was hilariously a huge help! Another man came and offered us a private lesson on the basics of a gun and its parts. Then when we were actually shooting in the range, these men kept coming in and out to help us and give us tips before we even turned around to ask! They were so kind and helpful it was ridiculous almost as if we were the only ones there(but of course we weren’t). These guys are amazing!!! Price: It’s a simple equation: rental gun+lane+safety wear+ammo+targets=final price. We rented a .22(they said its best for us since it was our first time and I went with their advice with no qualms). Altogether our price was $ 60-ish for 100 rounds. .22 bullets are cheaper than the rest so the higher the caliber the pricier the ammo. Worth it in my opinion!!! Parking: Ok, parking is major limited and sucks. Sorry guys! Love ya but its the truth. Parking is my must review on, on any place I review! They have a private lot within their garage entrance and its all of like 4 tight stalls. They say you can do street parking, but we just parked at Wards(near Ross) and just walked over. It was easier and faster than fighting for parking near them and it was all over a 1−2min walk!
