If I lived here I would make this my school! These guys are down to earth and will teach you everything they know. I’m here for a few weeks traveling from NY, I’ve been training for about 2 years and wanted to stay connected to my practice because if I get out of my rhythm with training it’s painful getting back in. Had a great class for $ 20 drop in which is nothing. I ran into a black belt from Renzo Gracie also traveling who had the same experience I did with the school. We hung out for an hour after class just talking which gave it that family vibe. If you are interested in training BJJ I highly recommend training here.

Just started training here a month ago and so far I love it. It was very hard to convince me to even start training jiu jitsu in the first place due to my minor anxiety of having other people on top of me but coach Jason and all the other coaches are wonderful teachers. Everyone makes me feel comfortable and let’s me go at my own pace. I’ve learned several self defense moves already and I feel confident knowing that I can defend myself in a dangerous situation if it were to ever occur. There are a good number of ladies who take classes so it’s even better that I can roll with girls and people who are closer to my size. I already feel like a part of the family and I enjoy the new friends I’ve made and the great workout!

I am Coach J’s first blue belt. I am damn proud to say I’m a part of the island jiu jitsu family. I haven’t trained with the class for a while but still randomly take privates at his home. You can’t put into words what it’s like at island jiu jitsu. I can say it ain’t easy but the group makes everything easy and fun. Like the other guy posted, Chris«Gracie» is hilarious and is easier to get along with than to look at. He crazy but he’s awesome. There’s a world champion mma fighter that frequents that place and all the seminars they bring in the best of the best. That’s says a lot. I’m a father and Jason never made it feel that my baby wasn’t welcome. Now that he has become a father, he more than welcomes your kids and even started keiki training. Jiu jitsu is a sport that evolves at a rapid pace. Jason definitely keeps up with the times so even though you have to drill the same core stuff over and over, he always throws in the new fad before the rest of the coaches are adding it here in Hawaii. I moved to the other side of the island so I am not around as much as I’d like to be, but Jason always tells me to train with whomever I can so that I can continue my journey. To be honest, it’s hard to go to any school after training with J. One day I will go full on again but until then. «Island Jiu Jitsu Forever.» Osss

I spent last summer(3 months) in Honolulu working on a project and training with the IJJ team. Without Surfah/Professor J, Chris(Graaaccciiie), and the rest of the guys at IJJ my summer would’ve been pretty drab. Classes are always intense and exciting. I think it’s the most island-style bjj training you can get in Honolulu. Hard to exactly describe this island style, but you’ll know what I mean when you go check it out. It’s fun, tiring, and spot on~Great people and friends on and off the mat!
