This park has seen better days. I recently went here for the REAL Beer Festival and I can’t say it was the nicest park in the world. I can’t even say that it can really be called a park. It was more of a well maintained grassy field with some trees and a park bench. It was great for an event and my only complaint would be with the lack of shade during a sunny day. There was ample street parking around the park and it was very easy to find. Other than that, this place isn’t the greatest place to spend your days on Oahu.

This park is the sub-park of Kakaako. It is not quite part of Kakaako Park but it is the strip of park you drive past to get to Kakaako Park. As far as parks go, this one has little to no amenities. There are 2 picnic tables and a couple of garbage cans and that’s it. Other than that it is just a line of palm trees, a few larger shade trees and a lot of open grass space. We play soccer here on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Other than that, I know they have church service once in a while. The park has a lot of homeless people who sleep under the trees or on top the picnic tables. On occasion there have been fights among the homeless and we’ve seen the cops come more than once(we guessed due to something drug related). Definitely not the best park for a family outing. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because it isn’t the worst park ever. It is good if you need a large open space, but plan to have to run to Kakaako if you have to use the bathroom.

Hard to write a review on this particular location. While the event that was recently held here(the Film and Food popUP in the Park) was really fun and successful, reviewing the park itself poses a bit of a problem. Firstly, there isn’t much here. Kakaako Makai Gateway Park is nothing more than a field of grass. As far as parks are concerned, this particular park doesn’t have much to offer. Furthermore, the closest bathroom is quite a walk away, as it is almost at the waterfront. Also, this park lacks the traditional water fountains for thirsty frisbee hurlers and ball dodgers. So if youre planning on flying a kite or staging a inter-company battle of «Red Rover», I would highly suggest bringing your coolers and water bottles. If youre looking for someplace away from the packed beach to stage a picnic, or take your senior tai chi group for a morning session, there is definitely space here for you, and its centrally located in Honolulu. Howeverm besides space, there isnt much here..
