It’s always nice to be up here in the St Louis Heights neighborhood from time to time, especially when I used to go hiking in Wa’ahila Ridge on weekdays and sometimes on the weekends too. I came across this neighborhood park on a recent walk through up and down St Louis Drive. I was tired from all the up and down walking, so I detoured here at the Kalaepohaku neighborhood park. A definite hidden gem, as far as green space and a option to play — all within the St Louis Heights neighborhood, so you won’t have to go far to have some entertainment. While I was here, there were a several dogs that were off leash, which was kind of okay, I thought. As long as they do their own thing and don’t come at me, and bite me, I was okay with that. Kalaepohaku neighborhood park has its very own basketball court with other assorted gym equipment for kids ages 5 – 12 years old. It was definitely nice to be here and the overall experience was nice. Haven’t been to a neighborhood park just to chill out in a while. Just like being at the beach, but without water and people watching is always a simple pleasure for me. People being people entertaining themselves and just being happy always makes me smile. Sometimes happiness is all you need in this life. Like all city and county of Honolulu parks, there is no admission fee! Yes! Free! That’s pretty awesome! Just green space for residents to enjoy, play, and enjoy life to the fullest. This community park is for anyone and everyone who wants to play basketball, need space for their pets, or just enjoy other’s company on their days off without being cooped up at home. Parking options are plentiful here, just try to find street parking nearby and you should be fine. Just don’t block anyone’s drive way and you should be good to go. During my stay here, it was cool to see a pick up game of basketball while dogs play with each other and their owners chat away. Children in the neighborhood cruise on by to check things out and go on their merry way home or wherever they go. Kalaepohaku neighborhood park is quite small, as small as the maunalani regional park up on one of the neighboring hills — Whilhelmina Rise. Or even Palolo Valley Regional park. It’s a nice area for residents to hang out and just have that space to have fun and be happy. The park itself is clean and the city and county of Honolulu do a great job in regularly scheduled maintenance. There is restroom facilities here, but if you are me, I would use the restroom at home before coming here to play. Public restrooms in Hawaii are really notorious for being unkempt and just gross in general. The overall experience here was quite good. I enjoyed myself here twice at the Kalaepohaku neighborhood park. I just wish that I didn’t have to walk up here from Walalae Avenue — for exercise. It’s a great workout for sure — hill repeats are the worst, it builds up the endurance! I finally realize that the bus comes up here(route 14) and failed to use it when I need to. Next time! Support local! A+

Évaluation du lieu : 5 Honolulu, HI
I’ve been coming to this park for many years now, ever since — «small kid time». The park has remained the same throughout the years, with the exception of improvements to the basketball court, comfort station, & kid’s jungle gym. There is also(1) picnic table inside the park. There is a large field where kids sometimes run, practice soccer, or baseball. But I like to come here to take my furry son to run around… There are a lot of dog owners in this neighborhood, and we like to take our doggies here so they can play, and socialize. The park is clean, the grass is cut on a regular basis, and the rubbish is emptied every week by the City & County of Honolulu parks & recreations workers. I would like to extend a Big«MAHALO» to the public city workers for keeping this park clean, and in great shape! The dog owners are very responsible, as we pick up after our dogs. We even pick up after the irresponsible dog owners that do not pick up after their dogs… but if you’re a dog owner, you should know better than to take care of your doggie’s business! A small, but very nice park…
