As in any metropolitan city, parking in Chinatown IS a problem. Besides the unusual amounts of yellow zone spaces (truck loading/​unloading), the metered street parking often encourage customers to either put on their track shoes to dash around shopping or prepare to pay for that dreaded traffic citation. Imagine how it was during Chinese New Year’s!
Over my twenty plus years experience of shopping in Honolulu Chinatown, this is the most convenient parking garage for my shopping needs. Though it is relatively small (four levels of parking area — three for the general public), I’ve never had to line up to enter or for a space. The parking spaces are on the tight side, but, since I hail from San Francisco, tight parking is my norm. It is in comfortable walking distance to most shops as the stairs will lead you up to Smith or Maunakea Street. My only complaint is that stairway odor, likely emanating from the homeless or new immigrant children who don’t have responsible parents.
Overall, this is a place to remember when wanting to shop or dine in Chinatown especially with the slough of new destination restaurants popping into the neighborhood.
