We went here for dinner the other night. Cute little place, maybe sits 20 ppl at once, sorta hard to find behind 7 – 11 on S King St. You receive menus, but you put your order down on a paper provided at your table. We decided on starting with hot sake and ahi poke. The sake was normal, as expected, nothing great but good. The poke had good seasoning and the shiso and daikon were both fresh, however I think the fish was previously frozen by it’s texture. For our meal we ordered the grilled miso musubi, ume musubi, wasabi teri chicken, shiso salted chicken, bacon wrapped asparagus and enoki, onion pork, pear sauce beef and the fried oyster. The chickens were a little bland and could have been a little moister. The beef was good, but I couldn’t taste the pear. The bacon wrapped items were good, but everything with bacon is good. The onion pork was moist and well seasoned. And the oyster was perfectly fried. The musubis were both delicious. In all the food was ok, the service is why they revived a four star rating instead of a three. The staff were all very nice and helpful. I would say that this place is fun since most of the food is on a stick. And I’d be back if I were looking for that novelty.

It’s been years since I visited Kohnotori but this restaurant remains pretty much the same as I remembered it. Parking: Parking lot is right off of King Street, where you are forced into a narrow driveway next to 7-Eleven off the busy main road. The parking lot is made for single car lane passing(one way) but several cars drive against the current which creates a dangerous, cramped traffic jam. They really should install«one way only» signs! Very tight and limited parking. Small lot is shared with Imanas Tei Izakaya. The 10 or so stalls fill up fast and can be very difficult to maneuver in if you have a larger vehicle. Menu: You order with paper menu slips, similar to restaurants in Japan. One side is English and the other Japanese. Mark the quantity of each item on the slip that you wish to order and hand it over to the server. In our case, we filled out one slip for the 5 of us. No happy hour or specials so be aware that it’s not a «cheap» place to Pau Hana and drink. They do have a wide selection of Chu-hi drinks, beer and whiskey(highball). Food: We ordered 28 items for 5 people which left us all stuffed. My suggestions are: 1. Tofu with Nametake $ 4.30 2. Beef(2 skewers) $ 2.90 3. Assortment(12-sticks) $ 23 4. Fried Garlic $ 3.90 I didn’t care for the chicken skin,(cold) soybeans or the watercress salad which I found to be extremely bitter. Other worthy mentions are the Shoyu & Miso Yaki Onigiri($ 2.50 each) and Bacon Wrapped Enoki which were all so-so. Price: Some items such as Asahi Beer Pitcher($ 18.50) and(cold) Soybeans($ 2.90) didn’t seem worth the price but most items were reasonably priced. Overall, each person paid about $ 30 including tax & tip. Service: The food comes out as it is cooked so plates were constantly rotated throughout our dining experience. The servers announced and sometimes explained each item as it was brought to the table. Servers work fast and it can feel impersonal but overall Good service. Kohntori is a classic, authentic Japanese yakitori restaurant that’s been around for years. I would come here once in a while but due to their limited parking and lack of happy hour, especially drink specials — I won’t be a regular!

If you’ve been to Yakitori Glad, I would call Kohnotori a glorified Yakitori Glad. It’s the same concept: ordering small plates of yakitori meats and other things(some of my favorite are bacon wrapped enoki, namesake mushrooms, fried cheese, fried squid legs, chicken breast with ponzu, chicken breast with shiso, etc.) You get to pick either a salt of teriyaki flavor for most of the items. Note, teriyaki can be a little saucy so if you don’t want your meat covered in sauce, I would recommend the salt flavoring! It’s easy to put in your order here and make sure you don’t put down too many things at once because most of what you order comes out one at a time, so it’s easy to get full quickly but the food is still coming! I like the ambience here, it’s not too noisy and good for a casual Japanese dinner with friends or for a date.

The food tasted great! Ordered the salt chicken, teri chicken, bacon asparagus, fried chicken, and beef tongue. I and my girlfriend arrived around 8 p.m. and luckily there was an available table. For two people, be prepared to spend around $ 40 – 50.

We found our fav late dinner date spot. Everything we had was so delicious. The daily special lamb stick was amazing. We could have done without the liver tho. Other way, we will definitely be returning!

Unfortunately it was pretty disappointing when my friends and I paid this place a visit recently. We wanted japanese food so we opted to try this place out. We ordered the 9 yakitori sticks combo, takoyaki, and a chicken soup ramen. Their takoyaki was not made fresh and I can tell that they were the frozen pre-made ones because of the flat bottom shape and the inside was not gooey. My friend said the ramen was pretty good. The one thing that really frustrated us was we waited 45 minutes to get our 9 yakitori combo! It took so long to get our food we almost believe for sure that they have forgotten our order. The food itself was great and the chicken was juicy, but the wait time definitely was not worth it especially when we were all very hungry. They also didn’t apologize to us when we waited a super long time to get our food… After we devoured the 9 yakitori, we left the place still hungry.

Frist time here and disappointed. Visited on 26 Sept 2015. It seems things have gone done hill in comparing the previous review to our experience(and the current reviews). First note what they were very disorganized. Our party of six placed several orders of Yakitori, salads, side dishes, etc. The first half were delivered piecemeal instead of all at once. 2 dishes… wait 5 minutes…2 more dishes… wait 10 minutes… ask waitress…“oh, let me check”…2 more dishes. The worst part was that an order of ramen took almost one hour to arrive. At the 30 minute mark we asked the waitress if it was forgotten. «Let me check… no, they’re about to start making it.» Start making an order 30 minutes after we ordered it? That’s restaurant talk for«oops, we forgot you ordered it.» At the 45 minute mark we asked again — all the other food had been eaten and we were about to just cancel it. «They’re still making it… but almost done.» Are you sh’ting me? 45 minutes for ramen? Finally, at about 55 minutes, the disappointing and small bowl of ramen arrived. The yakitori’s were fine but the ineptitude of the staff makes me hesitant to come back.

It was awful! Quail eggs were not fresh eggs, maybe from the can. All the Yakitori were barely grilled and It had no taste and flavor. Even the fast food Tori-Q was way superior. What a waste of money.

First of all, this is a really small hole in the wall kind of place. No neon signs outside or anything. Parking sucks really badly! But once you try the food, you will forget about what a bit** parking was. I tried so many things that I would hurt my fingers if I tried to list them all. Everything that we ordered was so good! My favorite item tonight was the bacon wrapped enoki mushroom! Next was the bacon wrapped asparagus and the bacon wrapped mochi!!! Bacon on anything is really good! The service was okay. They were really nice and friendly. But the food, well the food was wonderful. I would definitely advise you to try it!!!

Disappointing that they ran out of beef tongue and chicken skin skewers by 9:00PM on a Friday night. I’ve been to many yakitori places and I don’t know why everyone has such great reviews for this place. It was an average yakitori house. I would come here again, but wouldn’t wait for this place.

First time here! I thought Yakitori Glad was good, this place is even better. The prices are a little more, but so worth it! I have a love for enoki, and I swear this place had the best enoki and everyone needs to try it, especially the enoki bacon wrapped mushrooms!!! SOGOOD. We also ordered the bacon wrapped quail eggs, and other yakitori, which was very good as well! This place is good to just talk story, chill with friends, and whatnot. Definitely coming back here!

My fraternity brothers wanted to come here to Kohnotori for dinner. They swore by the food and drink. Now — I’m a huge fan! Gambatte! This place is a little restaurant located next to the Pucks Alley complex. Parking is difficult, but just park in Pucks alley instead of trying to find lot or street parking. Food here is delicious! Daikon salad with Ume dressing was perhaps the biggest surprise to me. Loved the fresh grated daikon with the tangy sour dressing. Grade: A– We got all kinds of yakitori sticks — beef tongue, chicken hearts, chicken gizzards, etc. They were well cooked and it was delicious! Grade: A– I ended my meal with the much touted Ramen. It was a small bowl of noodles with the simple garnishes. I actually thought that this dish was bland. Wasn’t a big fan. Grade: C+ Service was outstanding! The servers were quick to help us out when needed and were very friendly. Grade: A+ Food Grade: B+ Service Grade: A Worth the Money Grade: B Overall Impression Grade: B+

It’s very sad that famous grill master left… Food. Service and atmosphere all dropped on the ground… I hope they recover the reputation soon… Undercooked. Overlooked. Sergeant like server. Looks and act like no idea what they are doing. Very very sad

Beer and skewers. How can you go wrong??? This is a cute little joint that you can easily frequent with some friends when you’re not feeling a full meal. I will definitely be back!

Never heard of this place but friend suggested it so decided to give it a try. Atmosphere: tucked away near university next to the tea garden. Plenty of indoor seating available. I would recommend sitting at the bar, the grilled delicacies are handed to you right off the grill. Service: prompt and friendly servers. Limited parking in front but was easily able to find parking. Accepts credit cards. Food: Wow! The food was so tasty and well prepared. An excellent place to have an intimate and heartfelt conversation while nibbling on excellent finger food. Do not underestimate the fingerfood. Great grilled barbeque. I especially enjoyed the chicken wings and bacon wrapped enoki. See all pictures they say more than I can ever with words… Intangibles: great place to meet with a few friends and enjoy. The food here doesn’t demand your attention but provides the salt to enhance the flavor of an intimate conversation or fire to a developing relationship.

Kohnotori is fantastic! If you enjoy quality yakitori, look no further. I have been here twice so far but I would come here more often if the parking situation were better. There is a small parking lot out front with 10 spots that is shared with Imanas Tei. However, since Imanas Tei opens at 5pm and Kohnotori opens at 6pm, you can imagine how the hard it is to score an open stall. Despite that, Kohnotori totally deserves five stars because the food is absolutely delicious and the service impeccable. We were greeted with cheerful rings of irasshaimase as soon as we entered and asked if we wanted a table or seats at the counter. We chose the counter so we could watch the chef work his magic. The chef was excellent at what he did and extremely polite when he presented us with our yakitori. The staff was very attentive – waters were filled often and someone was always around in case we wished for anything. We ordered Asahi draft(from Japan!) to go with our yakitori. We had such a good dining experience because it really felt like we were transported to an izakaya in Japan. Now about the food. My favorites here are the takoyaki, bacon wrapped enoki, and chicken wings. You can’t come here and not get those items because they are so darn delicious!!! The chicken thighs and sausage were great too. I didn’t like the pork with onion because the pork was a bit dry. The tsukune is not bad but it was overpowered by the teriyaki sauce… maybe we should have gotten it with salt instead. Reservations recommended. We had a reservation for 6pm on a Friday night and the restaurant quickly filled up within half an hour. Go early and order quickly – you won’t regret it!

Do you know what yakitori is? Ate in Japan before? Are you hungry? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions then you to can have yakitori for dinner. Draft beer? Check. Sake, sochu? Double check. Delicious chicken, beef, fried garlic? Triple check. But wait there’s more! They’ve got insulated beer pitchers! I seriously don’t know how it gets better. Unless they got one of those frosty top beer like the Kirin beer garden in Shibuya. If they did, I can tell you I would never leave… ever.

Konotori used to be a lively yakitori izakaya with energetic, personalized service… but that was 15 years ago(yes, time flies)…now, the unique touches that set it apart from other izakaya are long gone, I.e. bamboo sake pourers with the basket of sake glasses that you can choose from… also, there are no more«irasshaimase» greetings as you enter, or the«beeru!!» Acknowledgements when ordering another round. The food is ok; but they lack the finesse to properly season the yakitori… and last time I went they ran out of gyutan at 7:00pm on a Saturday night!
