This place was gross? Nothing taste fresh. Dirty. Too pricy for what you get. I hard a touch crawl up my leg. Do not eat here.

This place is horrible!!! Nothing taste fresh at all. Cooked food is nasty as well. Udon/ramen has nothing to put in like seaweed, chili powder, daikon, etc. I would give zero stars but the server was really good.

Came here with my boys. Food was ok. Expensive. They did have some Hawaiian dancers that came out to dance.

At 57 years old I‘ve literally been to a thousand different restaurants, and this was EASILY the worst food I‘ve ever had. The sushi was obviously last weeks and smelled like it, the crab was mealy and dry and the fruit was bruised and rancid. None of the above are statements are meant to be funny, every word of this is true. Inedible and they still took our money.

This experience was probably my worst restaurant experience ever. I have never had to ask a waiter for some kind of refund because of being unhappy with a meal I received until now. PERFORMANCE: There was Hawaiian dancing entertainment, even though there was no stage or any real set up for the performers. They just cleared a small part in the very center of the dining area for them to dance in. Along with the horrible set up, the performance extremely loud and it was hard to talk to anyone at your own table. It was was also very hard to enjoy, because it was very awkward. The director of the performance at the mic was very creepy and awkward with the audience. This guy would try to get the audience to participate, but no one wanted to because he was very creepy and it was just awkward. Even though the main speaker was weird, the dancers were not that mad, they don’t deserve to be dancing in such a horrible restaurant. They are wasting their talent in such a crappy place. The performance was like being at a really ghetto luau overall and was just really bad. FOOD: When we were seated, the waitor recommend NOT to get the lobster buffet because he said it was not good at all which was weird, but we went with the regular buffet anyways. None of the food was fresh at all and just tasted horrible. I have never gone to a buffet and disliked literally everything. What really bothered me was the dessert section. It was nothing but mushy old fruit, a chocolate fountain, and store bought mini doughnut. SERIOUSLY. Store bought mini doughnut… it was absolutely horrible. STAFF: Overall, the staff was very nice and we’re very attentive to our needs and refilled our drinks and took away dirty dishes quickly. I actually felt really bad for them, because you could obviously tell that they think the restaurant is a shit hole and would never eat there ever. This restaurant does not deserve them. Just please please please don’t go here, it’s just awful. This place seriously needs to be on a restaurant rescue show or just needs to be closed.

I’ll get to the point on what I like & what needs work: Here’s what I like: 1) LOTS of variety of foods to choose from. Especially the sushi. Get to try different types. If you can also do for Dim Sum like this too, I highly recommended. 2) Got crabs. Acceptable taste. Again, more variety in crabs(beside King Crabs, also maybe Dungeness Crabs, or Rock Crabs, etc…) 3) Acceptable taste 4) Spacious dining area However, the following below are what needs work for further improvements: 1) Restaurant is overpriced. Although tasty, the foods are not luxurious like the ones in Waikiki. Therefore, price should be reasonable. I strongly recommend perhaps use MORE good deal coupons to attract the customers. 2) Like what I listed in the positive list above, I do recommend put more variety to your buffet such as maybe include Dim Sum to the buffet list, or perhaps more shellfish such as mussels & clams. 3) Some of your sushi are not the right size. Best sushi size are supposed to be ~1.25 inches in diameter no more & no less. Less is too small & more is too big. Try to keep your sushi size in that diameter size range & keep the delicacy values. 4) Parking & finding the location is slightly incovenient. Overall, not bad. Therefore 3⁄5 stars from me.

If I could give no stars I would. Was skeptical to eat here in the first place but decided to give It a try. I would hardly call it a Buffet as there wasn’t much to choose from. The sushi was terrible, broccoli and beef was so cold. And the«dessert bar» was pineapple, orange slices, brown bananas, and the mini hostess donuts from the package. What a joke! There was no service present except when they sat you down. We had a coupon for $ 5 off each but still with two lunch buffets and two drinks was $ 34 and the biggest waste of money spent on our honeymoon so far! The«salad» was a bag of romaine lettuce with a squeeze bottle of hidden valley ranch next to it. Cheap and absolutely disgusting! I wouldn’t even feed this to a dog!

DONOTEATHERE! Look up their health inspection report, it has a long list of violations including … Comments: Premises are not maintained free of insects(approx 100 cockroaches found behind buffet line; 3 cockroaches found in hot hold warmer not in use; 4 found at kitchen service station; approx 85 found behind dessert station; approx 100 cockroaches found in main kitchen; in all areas cockroaches are concentrated around cracked/unsealed floor tiles and dirty floor drains)

I read the reviews, so I went to this place with caution. Todai was one of my «go to» places on special occasions, and was disappointed when it turned into a «Makino» owned eatery. Okay…let’s start my review: Parking: If you park in the building, make sure to bring a small car! Parking is tight! Now they have a non-human parking monitor. ITDOESNOTGIVEOUTCHANGE! You need to put in the exact amount($ 4) because if you put in a $ 20, it won’t give you change! This happened with the people after me. After eating, Makino Crab House will reimburse you $ 2. So you actually only pay $ 2 to park. Not bad. Cleanliness: The place is old and has seen a lot of foot traffic. It has never been renovated since Todai. Carpet needs to be replaced, and tile work along the windows needs to be repaired. I didn’t dare go into the bathroom. Been in the bathroom before and almost hurled my food, so I know not to go in there unless I have to. There’s no air circulation! Workers: The main hosts are good, but the ones behind the food counters need to smile and at least look like they are enjoying their jobs. Food: The food isn’t THAT bad! Main thing is that we didn’t get sick! I was worried we would eat something bad, or I would get hives from the shrimp. A-OK! Sushi was good. The variety isn’t as large as before, and no poke. I went on a Saturday for lunch, so dinner might be different. The slices of sashimi on the the sushi was thick and generous! I didn’t see any masago sushi or California rolls, but like I said, maybe dinner time has a larger variety? The udon station was good like always, and the shrimp tempura was good. The weird things to me was the kalbi ribs, because it wasn’t teriyaki style, but lemon and pepper, then there was a KINDA kalbi style by the tempura, but not like the Mays kalbi. Then there were like 3 different ways the shrimp(with head on) was prepared. There was a COLD way, which I thought was bizarre, then the crispy way, which was good, and last was the regular stir fry way. Clams were decent too. I’m not a fan of snow crab legs, so I didn’t bother. Low points: The low point about going there was that they(haole waitress) gave us our bill within 10 minutes of getting there! We just sat down with our first plate of food for goodness sake! Then I noticed FULLON lipstick marks on my cup of soda!!! I didn’t notice it until I drank my soda below the lip mark! I had to laugh at that! Thank goodness we were pretty much finished eating, because that killed my appetite, and luckily I was drinking from a straw! All in all, it wasn’t that bad, and we didn’t get sick. There was no additional fee like others had claimed they got charged. Maybe the people had that additional fee wasted food? I heard of some places doing that. Price was reasonable! Per the sign behind the cashier, Fridays are $ 10.98 for women for lunch, and Tuesdays are $ 10.98 for senior citizens for lunch. Call to confirm these prices! Not a bad deal! We will be back again! Definitely on a $ 10.98 day!

I can’t believe there are so many bad reviews. I would give 10 stars. This place is awesome and for $ 16.99 all you can eat??? No where are you gonna find $ 16.99 all you can eat. Plus I got $ 1 off for being local. Most plate lunches nowadays costs close to that much. And the food tastes pretty good like in the fast food restaurants style. You guys don’t know anything about restaurant business. THISISALLYOUCANEATFOR $ 16.99. AWESOME. The sushi and rolls tastes just like the ones in Japanese Restaurants… And the other foods tastes just like other fast food places.

All you can eat buffet, not bad for the price. Fresh cooked prime Rib, shrimp and vegetable tempura, crepes, sushi, poke and sashimi, crab legs, deep fried oysters, just to name a few. There was a huge selection. Gratuity was included in our bill of 3 people. Makitti was closed down on kuhio so we came here. No complaints.

It’s exactly how to saying goes, «you get what you pay for.» Makino Crab House is the cheapest buffet that offers crab legs, and even more so with coupons and specials. Having a 1.5 star average, everyone should know what he or she is getting into before dining here, so you can’t really get angry or mad at the terrible food, service, parking, atmosphere, and etc. But I can describe it! :) I came here with my parents and grandparents for dinner because they wanted crab legs and didn’t want to spend too much money, and I tried my best to avoid this place, but to no avail. Off to a wonderful start, the parking smelled like piss mixed with other foul odors, and the ground was so dirty and sticky that I thought my car would catch a disease being there. Anyway, the parking cost $ 6, but you receive $ 2 back when you dine here, so remember to bring your parking receipt. I still find it weird the stairway from the parking structure leads you to the middle of the buffet line, but I digress. We were quickly seated, and the place was quite empty. Everything looks pretty much the same when Todai was here, but the air and atmosphere felt a little strange to me. It felt like being in the restroom of an airplane with the compressed, filtered air mixed in with other substances. I always do a walkthrough at every buffet to see what’s there and plan, and I typically try a small portion of everything. At first glance, the hot section looked decent, and the dessert and sushi looked awful, but I went for it anyway. There were two types of crab legs: snow crab and Russian crab legs! How lucky! I love anything Russian and snow… until now. I’m sure these legs were good at one time, but after being frozen then cooked with so much salt for a long period of time, it’s over. The saltiness was too overbearing and the crab meat had such a bad texture too. Why is this even prepared in this manner? What a waste! The ribeye steak looked so promising, but the meat was bland and the texture was soft and mushy. It’s like the meat was not meaty. The clams in black bean sauce was actually the best item of the night. I was lucky enough to grab from a freshly prepared pan. It was on the salty side, but at least it tasted good, and the clams weren’t overcooked. The salt and pepper shrimp looked decent too, but the shrimp was small, mushy, and not fresh. Later in the meal, the shrimp was apparently out, so instead of removing that empty pan, they placed a pan of gross-looking, rectangular-shaped pizza(like from grade school lunch) on top. Talk about laziness… There’s a «Ramen Bar,» but I see no one there, and no noodles or any boiling stock or water, or bowls, or anything. Everything else was low quality and poorly prepared. There was nothing good at the sushi bar. Nothing was fresh and everything was room temperature. The ahi tuna and salmon were off color and probably have been oxidizing for days. The shrimp was paper thing and mushy, squid was chewy and inedible, tamago was super thick and bland, and the rest were similarly bad. Towards the end of the meal, I noticed a «new» item on the line, «tempura sushi.» Oo, what is that? Oh, it’s just all the leftover sushi and nigiris that’s been sitting there dunked in thick batter and fried. I feel sorry for the people who ate that… The dessert line is hilarious! It’s like how cheap can you go? You have orange slices, and next to that, a bowl of canned mandarin oranges. And next? Prepackaged banana pudding, and small bowls of jello and bread pudding. The cakes are laughable. It’s white cake with frosting and sprinkles on top, chocolate cake with frosting and chocolate sprinkles, and a couple of dry cakes with no topping. There’s a crêpe station that had no one there in the beginning, and apparently someone wanted one, so they just randomly grabbed someone in the back to do it. The person preparing it had no idea what she was doing. The amount of batter was off, the flipping was terrible, the timing was bad, it was as if she’s never done this or cooked in her life. Of course it’s a good idea to use the corner of the spatula to move an off-centered crêpe… I don’t blame her though. I don’t believe this is in her job description. The service was… nonexistent. Other than bringing us waters, we were left alone the rest of the night. We just left our used plates with the other used plates on the empty tables next to ours. Overall, Makino Crab House is what it is, a one-star buffet restaurant that serves cheap, low-quality food, staffed with the least amount of experience, and provide the least amount of service. But hey, it is cheap. So like I said in the beginning, you get what you pay for.

Ok so I get it… they ain’t no 5 star restaurant but, I had to go to try it myself. We pull up 15mins early and already there is a line of at least 15 – 20 people. We were hesitant to go in solely based on your reviews but we go in anyways. I knew the lines would be nice, full and fresh I’m assuming because we are the first ones in there. As assumed everything looked good and smelled good too. We rush to go stand in line once shown where we are going to sit. I’m thinking to myself as I see all the great selections what’s the big deal? Why all the bad reviews? As a pescatarian I really liked the egg fu young, noodles, garlic shrimp, lobster, shrimp tempura, crepes, etc. The service that I received from the waiters and waitresses were awesome always making sure our table was clear and that we had water. Sushi selections were great in quantity not so much quality but even then for the price of dinner which was $ 22 for regular or $ 27 for lobster and steak it was worth it I think lol The food did lack in some areas but nothing huge. One thing I thought wasn’t right was how they charged me for 2 adults for my 10&11 year olds. They were supposed to be ½off regular price and because I have tall girls they charged me regular price. WTH! that pissed me off. Everything was good until that moment. No one likes getting overcharged. Ken our waiter did his best to remedy the problem. If you gonna penalize my family for being so tall… I’ll do you the favor of never coming back or bringing family who are also Giants. That’s discrimination! So if I had short kids and lied about their age I’d get away with it? Go figure

We came for the grand opening lunch special, which was about $ 13 for kamaaina. Dinner is priced at about $ 24, kamaaina. People in Hawaii go crazy for buffets, and this place was no exception. With the locals mixed in with the tourists, the line was still long 30 minutes before lunch service ended. We got in with only 15 minutes til the close and had to rush around to pick up food from the various stations before they were withdrawn. I wasn’t able to try a few items since the stations were already closed, but was still excited for the mountains of sushi and shrimp! Unfortunately, lunch doesn’t come with crab legs or prime rib. I suppose the food was to be expected of a cheap buffet. The sushi rice was overly vinegary and the cuts of raw fish laden with that fishy smell. Nice variety, but wasn’t able to try a some of the rolls due to dining near the end of lunch service. The shrimp in garlic butter sauce were good, but cold. My favorite thing might’ve been the lumpy chocolate fountain with fresh fruits for dipping. Everything was just a little… blah. We had to ask twice before we received waters at our table. If you want to eat a ton of mediocre food for $ 13, then this is the place for you! But even for deals like that, I don’t think I’ll be revisiting.

This place isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The food is fresh and tasty, the plates and utensils are clean and the cups aren’t greasy! The staff though are pretty lazy except for our server. The sushi selection was adequate and the poke was fresh at least to me. I was suckered into buying a soda as it included a lobster… But it was stuffed with other meat… The prime rib was good and so were the crab legs. They had two types: Alaskan and Russian. The frustrating part of it though is that they give you a mallet and small tin to smash the legs instead if crackers… Which is discouraging and really slows you down which also causes you to eat less. The desserts were bad as there wasn’t much of a selection compared to when this place was Todai. What’s funny is they have a mix of both Makino plates and Todai plates… They also have a chocolate fountain that isn’t on and no ice cream or ice cream machine. This place has fallen from its apex and doesn’t look like it’s ever returning to it. The restroom which I went into to wash my hands was a mess… I can only imagine what the kitchen looked like! It’s a miracle that the food tasted decent. Also, I noticed a few of the staff saw a child drop some fries on the floor but nobody went over to clean it up! To make things worse… The fire alarm went off and we were asked by all staff to not be concerned… They were only concerned that people would run out on their bills. All things considered I left full for a party of three with all you can eat crabs and prime rib and such I for less than $ 100?! That’s a decent deal for me. Would I be back? Probably not. I’m concerned this place won’t be around when I return which would be another year.

Homer Simpson: «Marge! I’m taking the family to Makino’s Crab House tonight!» Marge Simpson: «Why? 74 Unilocal reviews and a 1−½ star rating. I don’t feel like wasting a shower and put on clothes.» Homer Simpson: «Marge! We’re the Simpsons! I suspect the parking will be easy and with a 1−½ star rating, the place will be empty. Think about it Margie! We can fart whenever, wherever and as loud as we want. Yahoo!» — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — - It was Monday afternoon and I was in a great mood. I told my gf that I wanted to give Makino’s Crab House another try. I felt bad about giving them two stars in my 5÷14÷2015 review. I felt bad that they were getting all those negative reviews and had a 1−½ star Unilocal rating. I cleared my mind and blocked out all the negativity posted on Unilocal and off we went to Makino’s Crab House for dinner. I had the same kind of attitude as Homer Simpson. Homer Simpson: «Boy, everyone is stupid except me.» We got there early, 5:15 P.M. I drive up the ramp to the parking of Canterberry Place where Makino’s Crab House is located and parked my car in the best parking stall in the parking garage: Stall No. 40. I was feeling good and looking good. We walked down the stairs and the young man in charge of the front of the house told us that we would have to wait outside the restaurant. We went outside and I took some pictures of the entrance to kill some time. At about 5:20 the young man comes out and asked if we had reservations. I said: «No!» He’s facing Diamond Head and I’m standing in front of him facing Ewa. Young Man: «Would you stand on the left side of the rope! The right side of the rope is for people with a reservation and the left side of the rope is for people without a reservation.» So we stand on the left side of the rope facing the entrance. Five minutes later a family from Southern California walks up to the front of the restaurant and the young man ask the mother if they had reservations. She said: «No!» The young man points to the right side of the rope and says: «Would you all stand there!» I’m beginning to think I’m Homer Simpson. Homer Simpson: «I wake up relatively happy every morning. Then I interact with people and things start changing very quickly.» Me: «You just told us to stand on the left side of the rope! They have no reservation and I we have no reservation. Why are we on the left and they’re on the right? Young Man: «Sir! Read the sign above the door. People with a reservation on the left and people with no reservation stand on the right!» Me: «You told me to stand on the left! You should have told me to stand on the right!» Homer Simpson: «D’oh! Alright brain! It’s all up to you!» Young Man: «Sir! Just let me do my job!» Some more people walk up to the door. Young Man: «Do you have a reservation?» Reply: «No!» Young Man: «Ok! Please stand on the left side of the rope!» Homer Simpson: «Here’s to alcohol, the cause of and solution to all life’s problems.» At about 5:35 P.M. the young man walks out and announces: «We are running a little late. We will be opening in about five minutes.» Homer Simpson: «Beer! Now there’s a temporary solution.» I just don’t get it! I’m beginning to think Makino’s thinks like Homer Simpson! Homer Simpson: «I hope I didn’t brain my damage! Facts are meaningless. You can use facts to prove anything that’s even remotely true.» I mean come on! How about giving it your best effort. Is it that hard to open on time? You’re not trying! Homer Simpson: «Trying is the first step towards failure! Just because I don’t care doesn’t mean I don’t understand!» Makino’s needs to see things through the eyes of a valued patron. The person at the front of the house shouldn’t be a Homer Simpson! They need to open on time! Read the reviews! I’m not the only person complaining about it. They need to clean the men’s restroom. It was disgusting just 30 minutes after opening late. Salad and dessert selection needs re-evaluation. For me, I prefer less choices but better quality. Sushi bar is pretty solid. But what happen to the uni and scallops? Not seeing those two items was very disappointing. Best thing they serve are the ramen and udon. Cannot complain about the AYCE price for seniors. Mahalo! I’m one that believes Makino’s can recover from their bad start. I’m sure they can get much, much better. The difference between their success and failure are in the details. They have to get out of their Homer Simpson attitude and think more like Estee Lauder. Homer Simpson: «Don’t worry about the bad reviews and one star ratings. Being eaten by crocodiles is like going to sleep in a big blender.» Estee Lauder: «I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.» Just to show you I care and believe you will. Four stars baby! Don’t let me down!

When life gives you lemons… make lemonade… or lemon bars! When you go to an All You Can Eat Buffet, and you have a 90 minute time limit, there’s a certain strategy that you may apply: –get your money’s worth and go for the expensive items –eat things that you cannot make yourself –go for things that are difficult to obtain This is my game plan, and it usually works. I can go just about anywhere and end up quite satisfied. With a 1.5 star rating, I donned my best suit of armor, took my cute, fiesty girlfriend as my sidekick, and went in for the win! She had a mailer for an extra $ 2 off of the already discounted kamaaina rate(for Hawaii residents) — BONUS! We had parked several blocks away, so parking was FREE. She had made reservations for opening time(11am) — YES! We were prepared for any snafus, realizing that the Crab House Makino just opened on May 1, 2015. Everything was in place, except for the gatekeeper. I couldn’t understand why they weren’t letting us in at 11am. The small, elderly Asian woman at the front door was barely audible, mainly because there was the sound of a loud jack hammer nearby. She was asking everyone to have their State IDs ready. Also, she was trying to separate the crowd into 2 groups. Clearly, there are two signs at the entrance: one above the door, and one on the door. The arrows indicate which side of the rope is the line for those with reservations and customers who are walk-ins. The traffic jam also stems from the parking garage. People who park there for $ 4 can get $ 2 back from the restaurant when they pay their bill. The problem is that when you enter from the garage, you arrive inside the restaurant, but you need to go outside — through the front door, and weave through the lines to get to the end of the line. You may be aware of this already as it is in the former Todai location between Ala Moana and Waikiki. In fact, the large plates have the Todai logo on them! Another reason for the backlog at the door is they are billing customers and figuring out who belongs to which reservation. Some people in line tried to call that day for reservations, but were unable to get in. Seems as though you need to call at least 24 hours in advance. You must also have your coupons ready from the Dining Out section of the newspaper(published the first week of May 2015). They will staple it to your bill. The good things: Watermelon, pineapple, papaya, cherries, udon, miso ramen(but weak soup base), clams, tender roast beef — especially with the creamy horseradish, calamari, salmon, vast variety of sushi, ice cream with toppings(coconut flakes, gummy bears, etc), chocolate chip cookies, fudgy brownies, coconut cream tart Not so good: dry snow crab legs, mussels with no flavor, odd-looking stir fry, mushy takoyaki, spooky-looking fried rice, fried noodles with chunks of spam in it I was afraid to check out the restroom because when it’s crowded, there’s a good chance that the restroom will be messy. My friend went and had no complaints. I did read the reviews, but I didn’t notice the oily floor. I did see some moldy and bruised cherries, so I picked them out of the serving dish and set them on the side so that staff could dispose of them. The«good» cherries still tasted fresh. I really enjoyed them since they fall into the«expensive» and hard to obtain categories. The service was good because there were 2 people taking used plates away. We didn’t even need a refill of water because we were concentrating on the food. If you want hot tea or some other beverage, there’s an extra charge. Overall, we had a fun time, but probably would only go back for a special occasion. I would be willing to be your guide if you need one! For sure, I’d take you for your birthday… if you are brave enough!

Makino’s Crab House isn’t worth the effort it takes to eat here. On a Holiday weekend the parking lot was full and long lines were a challenge. We had a reservation, but because they mismanaged the reservations and walk-ins we still waited 40 minutes for a table. Another time we went on a weeknight and it was empty inside which meant the food selection was limited and what was out was old and stale. Like even the sliced oranges were dried out. Which made me wonder how many times had they been put out and put away and put out again? The sushi section is okay, different roll combinations, nigiri, and made to order hand rolls. They use low grade seafood and the selection varies. I skipped all the hot bar items – noodles, pizza, fried chicken, chopped steak, etc. – the food looked heavy and greasy. They also have made to order ramen, which means someone will open a package of noodles and put it in a bowl for you. There were 3 types of crab on the Holiday – king, snow, and rock – only snow on the weeknight. The king crab legs are so small they look like the snow crab, and they lacked flavor, just waterlogged and tasting like salt water. The snow crab is better if you are willing to work harder to unshell them. The rock crab claws are also okay, again if you are willing to do the work. The desserts didn’t look good, I tried a couple pieces of fruit that were underripe and stopped. Someone was making crepes and putting scoops of melted, soupy ice cream on them. If you do want to try Makino Crab House, make sure you ask for the Kama’aina or Senior Citizen Discount, but for the price, you could have a much better meal elsewhere.

12.98 $ lunch mo-sat for kama’aina until 5÷31÷15(with coupon). 4 $ parking in the building for 0 – 3 hours parking. Makino reimburses you 2 $ for parking when you give them the bottom portion of your parking ticket. You have to wait long time in line to get in. Service is non-existent. The waiters don’t clear the empty tables or clear your plates. The hot food section is not good… king crab is very salty and dry. However, the sushi station is pretty good for the amount of money you pay. My hubby liked it and ate plenty of it. The desert station is bad except for the fresh fruits. They added 15% service charge automatically to your bill. What is that? Who does that… is that legal… especially when there was no service at all.
