Even though the food may be good… I was just so scared to eat it. Don’t know what else to say. If you agree, up vote my review cuz tourists be warned.

why only 2 stars? show is awesome, food is good, plenty of choices, price is reasonable, everyone is kind. I’d come again if I’m not leaving Honolulu the next morning.

Still very decent food, but choice choice is noticeably limited compared with previous years.

I seriously hope this place got better after re-opening when the health department shut it down. Now Is it really fair for me to pour salt in The wounds after death? Oh what the hell… I’m not sure if I want to one star it or half star it. I can’t decide. I try to look at the positive side of things, so let me start with what brings my score to 1 star. Ummmm… The show was good for the price. It’s a bit touristy but families really seemed to like it and the performers were personable and knew how to work the crowd. Ummmm… The location and the grilled steaks. ** crickets chirping** What brought it down to half a star because 0 or negative is not allowed has to be the buffet. Although the items were labeled and the food looked like the labels, I was not sure if it was true. Like an idiot, I kept testing it out. The food tasted nothing like the labels, well except for the rice. I’m not even going to explore what I ate as I don’t want to relive it. They also advertise a lobster with a coupon. I think it should really read«½ large crayfish-rubber meat». So Makitti, please make improvements by reading Unilocal reviews and honoring the health department. There is a lot of potential and you have a good location spot. Live and learn… Please! For the love of All that’s holy!”

This place is horrible. The food sucks very bad here and they are not clean at all. There is a reason the Heath department closed this place down. It’s a tourist place they come and go. No local people ever eat at this place. So glad they finally closed it down.

I don’t normally eat buffet but was invited here last week. By looking at the food and some live pigeons around tables, I don’t feel like eating. I grabbed some sushi and they were not what I expected. Cold food is supposed to be cold and hot food to be hot. But. I didn’t eat much. Instead I later went nearby to grab some udon. Stay away from this buffet. The one in Prince Hotel is good

I had higher expectations for this place. Upon arriving to my hotel across the street I noticed the all you can eat crab legs and steak and lobster signs and so I thought I’d give it a try. If it wasn’t for the good show put on by the dancers this review would only have 1 star. The food was not all that and the only good thing here was the steak which came from a big box kindve like the ones you’d by on the side of the road in Texas. The show was good but the buffet was«eh»… I don’t recommend this place to anyone. It was 21.98 I needed up spending close to 50 to 60 for 2 people. There are better places to try in Waikiki trust me.

The reviews for this place are spot on. I was invited here by relatives celebrating a special occasion. The food was sub par. The show was slightly entertaining, which is why they get the second star.

Was excited to sample this place because of the buffet and live show. To my displeasure, it didnt match up. Choice of foods was good, however taste was minimal at best. Calamari was tough as leather and cold. Sushi choices were few and I had no idea what they were. Crab legs were small and had very little meat after working feveriously to get it out,(What I could find). Deserts were a crêpe filled with ice crème topped with chocolate syrup, a dry hard cake, and a pastry type item. None of which were tasty. In my opinion this place is not worth the $ 22.00 or any amount of money. They only thing I liked was the intertainment and even that was minimal. Makitti is a place I will never go to again.

Can’t complain. For $ 22 plus tax, it wasn’t terrible. It reminds me of a lower end AYCE buffet in LA. I tried to steered clear from the cold and sushi items because it was humid outside. Both chicken items and shrimp were not warm so I did not eat them. FYI: –Free dinner show nightly, 6&7pm –Look for a coupon in the Oahu booklet for a free piece o lobster. I didn’t partake so I don’t know how big it is. -$ 10AYCE buffet breakfast –Not really Hello Kitty themed per se. There is a wooden sign with a hula skirt wearing HK and stuff for sale in the lobby –The batter used to make the crepes is Bisquick so it tastes more like a pancake

We have been coming to Hawaii since 1975. This place used to be(forgive the spelling) Perry’s Smorgy. We used to always go there once every trip. Several years ago the name changed and this was the first time we have been there. Read the reviews which we we not very good. My review would of been higher except for one fact. That later. Not much has changed with the layout. Pond area missing. The rest is pretty much as it used to be. The people were friendly the food was plentiful. They had ribeye steak cooked to order and it was tender, juicy and tasty. There was sushi, poke, chicken, pork, really to much to name. The reason for a 3 is the food was not at serving temperature. It had been prepared earlier then put on steam tables. By the end of the night it was probably hot but not at the first of the night. The entertainment was good. We enjoyed the show. The price was very fair. I will definitely give them another try. Just 40 degrees from 4 stars.

I wish I had read and listened to the reviews, the service was deplorable, we had a coupon for free lobster, which the staff forget to bring out to us and had to be reminded after about a half hour wait, it came out lukewarm covered in some unidentifiable and unpleasant tasting sauce with cheese, so you couldn’t taste the lobster, which hadn’t actually been cleaned out properly before serving. The buffet was not very good, the food was not hot enough, even if you got it as it was just brought out. The salads and sushi weren’t really cold, I wish I had brought my food thermometer to make sure it was ok to eat before I had anything! Thank goodness for antacids! The only things we enjoyed were, at the very back of the restaurant there was a grill with steaks being cooked(although all the steaks were just sitting out on the counter unrefrigerated it was worth eating) then at the side there was a pancake griddle where you could get a freshly made pancake with vanilla icecream and chocolate sauce. The show was fairly good, but possibly worth just buying a drink and watching then eating somewhere else. Dine at your own risk!

Pretty decent. You get what you pay for($ 21/adult). I mean, for this price you can get grilled steak, seared ahi, poke, lobster(free w/drink purchase or coupon from Oahu ThisWeek), and a crêpe with ice cream plus entertainment. There are some good food finds. Then there are the fillers that may not look appetizing… just skip over those. The entertainment was actually pretty good talent, especially the fire dancers. Two thumbs up!

Sadly this is my first sad review. Visited Makiti for lunch this past Monday July 6, 2015. Having eaten at Makiti quite often in the past(last visit probably 3-years ago) I was shocked at the condition of this once fine buffet restaurant. The exterior landscaping is non-existent and the building itself in need of refurbishing. Inside the front door things got a little better but not by much. It had the feel of an unkempt backyard hastily employed for a family meal. Gone were all traces of Hello Kitty which our friends young daughter had seen in the past and was hoping to see again. Replaced now with some horribly carved tiki art that was gaudy beyond even Waikiki standards. As we had a large party we elected to sit at the mauka end of the restaurant. Dirty(dust wise not food) folding plastic tables with no table covers awaited us. Our poor server tried his best to clean up our tables, re-arrange chairs and provide water for our large party, Seemed like he was the only person waiting on two large dining areas. He sorrily needed help. Much of the remaining restaurant was in disrepair including several ceiling fans in our area that were not operational. I saw one broken table post that had been employed as an ash tray right in our seating area The food? The food was okay, not what I remember. What bugged me most was that the hot foods were not that hot and cold foods were at room temperature. Its a real concern when we are dealing with raw fish on the sushi, ahi poke and other items. To their credit it appeared that food moved quickly and was replaced with trays from the kitchen. In fact the only reason I didn’t give Makiti a 1 Star is that I didn’t get sick from the food. All in all Makiti is a sad shadow of its former self. My memories of a once great buffet restaurant that served good food in a family atmosphere are all that’s left. I surely hope Makiti can dig itself out of the bottomless pit its sliding into.

My cousin was craving for buffet and came across this place. When were standing on the other side of the road it looks busy since there was a lot people outside though they were heading, she thought that it might be a good place to eat. When we came in, we were greeted by the host and took us inside and to our surprise, the place was almost empty. When I sat down I felt like leaving already. The waitress was a little out there too. She gave us water to start with and that was all we got the whole time we were there. The food was really horrible, really, really, I mean really. I’ve been to other buffet but I don’t think I would ever pay to come back again to this place. The food was all greasy and unpalatable. Yes, your sense of taste buds will be offended. They have fruits but it’s doesn’t look good at all. My husband tried the roll and one bit he’s done. I did try some but one is enough for me and I just went to the safest route, pastries. It’s an open place and I would think there should be a food attendant or something that would check the food every now and then to make sure insects don’t get in the food. I saw one but she just filled the tray with food, arrange it and leave. That is not the case on this one, seem likes they just ignore the food that they serve. You will see things as well that should not be close to the food or your food should not be on. The whole place where you get the food is filthy. We thought that this place was somehow a stop for group tourist, I don’t know if that’s the right term for it. We saw one group of people came in, probably more than 10 and there was guide making sure they’ll be able to inhale the«food» that was in there. Weeeell, I hope they came hungry and tired they they wouldn’t remember how food should actually taste like. When we got the bill, we knew how buffet charged per head but for some reason, we felt we were robbed at gunpoint and was asked to eat nothing but their unsavory food. We we’re just really disappointed that we actually have to pay them for it. That was the only time too that I saw the waitress, handing out the bill not water. At this point, I had told my daughter to just stop eating and we’ll just get her something else. My husband also didn’t feel good after eating that sushi, that got me riled up and I was hoping he was joking but we immediately went back to our hotel. He’s stomach always get a reaction with food sometimes and this is one of those episodes especially of we come to place that’s new to us. When all left in despair. Food never disappoint but the people who made them without proper knowledge and care does. This are those kind of place that even when they give away free meal, I wouldn’t get it, if I do I will just get it to make sure no one would try it at all. Unfortunately, it seems like this place will be here for a while since there are some tourist that comes by to their place just to save but for $ 80 something that we paid, I’m sure we can all get more than what this place have.

I’m totally shocked at the many low reviews. I checked this place for the first time last year on vacation as sort of a desperation move. There wasn’t a wait, the price was reasonable, and there was a free show. It turned out great. Very good food and above average show. However, this year the bar was raised. There was a minor wait this time which looked more like a ploy to attract a crowd before a show. The 10 minute wait was worth it as the food was even better than last year, good quality poke, sushi, and rib eye. Chicken karaage was good and so were the clams. Miso soup actually had seaweed and tofu in it. The biggest surprise was the show. The overall talent and attractiveness of the dancers has been totally upgraded. Looking at the photo I took last year, only the announcer guy is the same. If this place would get a classier exterior and interior makeover, this would become a huge crowd favorite since the place could fit a massive crowd. The overall décor and discount price make you think lesser of the food, but the taste comes through. There are certainly items that did not look appetizing so your mileage can definitely vary, but you can pick at small pieces to see if you dig it or not. The kids also loved being able to pick what they want to eat and the fire dancers!

I’m giving two stars because the performers were GREAT for the price of the buffet. If you’re looking to hit a luau type show on a budget(most nice ones seem to run around $ 80 per person), this show is the route to go. That being said… If you go, stick with the pineapple, there is salad, miso soup, and crepes. Everything else does not look fresh, is not tasty and definitely not worth the possible stomach issues to follow. Do not… I repeat… do NOT get the«free lobster» that is couponed in the This Week Oahu. Doesn’t look or smell fresh. In fact most of the food is not fresh. Eat anything else at your own risk… but for the money, the show is good. :) At $ 21 each adult, you will not find many luau experiences.

We make it a rule to visit this restaurant since this restaurant was a Perry’s smorgy restaurant. This time was a end of the year. Many tourists gathered to hawaii. So Restaurants should crowded. But this time we surprised that so many guests wait for the table even if they reserved the table. In this time makittii restricted the dinner time within 90 min. I think this restaurant had come to congestion lot. Fire Dance Show had become very well. Given that it is located in the middle of Waikiki, I think this restaurant is a very cost-effective good.

I enjoyed Makitti. Was it the best food I had in Waikiki? Certainly not; however, for the low price the taste and amount of food was a good bargain. There is a wide choice of food. The food quality was good for a buffet. It seemed to be restocked frequently and tasted pretty good. The fruit is chilled in a sliding door fridge. Desert selection of very limited. If you have ever been to a Chinese buffet it is those small, Square cake things. There was a very nice cream filled pastry. The service was limited at times. Staff are always on the move and it can be difficult to get their attention. It is open air, which means it can get noisy at times. But overall it was a good value meal. I would go again! Bottom line: we had a good feed here, and were very full by the time we left. And we had a good time. The food wasn’t bad, and it wasn’t amazing. But it was an excellent place for a happy, hungry couple or for a group of hungry friends wanting a good venue for a good feed. Easy and enjoyable meal, with tons to eat. There’s bound to be something you love here, and you’d be mean if you complained after all that food.

*** Visited in October. The buffet is terrible, but for $ 20 — the show is worth it.(Not really!) I’m pretty sure the US lacks food standards. Sorry. Here in Canada, raw fish and cold items should be kept cool to prevent bacteria growth. With the Hawaii heat, I didn’t bother trying out food I knew I would get sick from. All the locals say this place isn’t worth your wild. I should have believe them. The line is very deceiving. The show is pretty entertainment, but on a day of heat — you really want to be left alone to eat your dinner. The host was pretty annoying trying mimick people’s accent.
