Need to get there early to get the choices you want. everything is good. I personally get the chicken katsu, teri chicken and meatloaf but everything else I tried I liked. the only okazuya in the mauna kea market fod court. prices are very good and portions are also very good. very nice people working. my go to spot for a quick lunch while getting veggies in chinatown.

NOT to be confused with Sushi Masa, which is a higher end sushi bar located in Ward, Masa Sushi is a small scale shop offering takeout in the 1, 2, 3, or 4 choices format. It was Friday and I needed some adventure. What better place to have an adventure than Maunakea Marketplace? Tucked away in the indoor food court in the shop closest to the courtyard, Masa Sushi serves its okazuya and sushi as the sole Japanese restaurant in a sea of Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, and Filipino shops. I tried the chicken katsu, nikujaga, and nishime. The chicken katsu was really flavorful and crunchy. One of the best chicken katsu dishes I’ve had. The nikujaga was good, but a little on the gingery side for my tastes. Still, I’m just amazed that I found a place that serves nikujaga so I’m happy as can be! The nishime was pretty good too, but a little on the watery side. The chirashizushi caught my eye on the way out but I had already ordered. It looked like it was big enough to be a meal in itself, with maguro, hamachi, and some nama ebi in there, priced at only $ 7. The quality looked excellent – I’ll have to try this next time. All in all a great place to go for lunch if you’re in the area, and definitely one of the cleaner looking shops in the food court.

INTHEMALL!!! and still great. I have walked past this spot for years and never dropped in. «sushi in the mall» is a little like having a martini in the bathroom — doesn’t seem right. Well I was hungry and a few friends advised me that Masa trained the nobu guys and others on the island. To my surprise, they were right and this place was great. Very inventive with green tea ice cream served with shoyu, sea urchin(uni) tempura and a host of very fresh fish. Only bad thing, they are inconsistent. I have now eaten there 7 times with 4 being stellar, two ok, and one was an off day and Masa not on his game. The good is so good, I can overlook the bad. Much better than sasabune etc. and half the price. Kampai!

Masa’s in Maunakea Marketplace is tucked in at the far end of the food court but has great Okazu as well as Sushi you can also read my review at I like their Garlic Ahi, the Nori wrapped Fishcake as well a the great Chicken Katsu. I keep wanting to eat their Noodle bowls but after walking from the other end of town I don’t really feel like having something hot to eat(since I am already quite warm) I really like their Chiraishi as the attention to detail is quite nice and tastes great. The service is very pleasant and the food is good.
