Went there last night for the first time. Been to Market City millions of times, but never ate at this restaurant. Great place to relax and have a good dinner. Everything is Ala Carte style including the meats. The great thing about them is if you go before 5:30…20% off the whole bill! They have a great selection of different broth. Me and the boyfriend tried the signature Maido Nabe broth… it was so good. :)

I just have to say that the service at this establishment is fantastic! Each time I was there, the staff was very friendly and helpful when explaining the different broths and dipping sauces. The food cave is filled with many choices to feed your face with! One thing is, you should be careful not to get too carried away if you’re there during the regular priced hours. Your bill can add up real quick. However, they have an awesome lunch special and a great happy hour. As far as the food itself goes, it’s pretty standard fare for a «hot pot» style restaurant. I like both the curry and the house broth. The spicy dipping sauce is tasty, too. Overall, this is a nice addition to the list of many restaurants in Market City.

I’ve been on a quest to find a hot pot restaurant that has a broth that is comparable to Ichiriki, and I finally found it here at Nabeya Maido! Their signature Maido Nabe broth(#1 on the menu) is very similar to Ichiriki’s signature broth. But I’d say the prices at Nabeya Maido are lower, and, you have the option of choosing your own ingredients. The best way to dine here is to check them out during lunch. They have a $ 9.99 lunch special that comes with a broth and a pre-set assortment of protein, veggies, and udon. Just order one lunch set for your table, and then add on other ingredients ala carte and share everything family-style. That way you get to eat a variety of things. Our meal for 3(one lunch special plus a bunch of ala carte items) came out to just under $ 40 and best of all, we got to take home the leftover broth. All I need to do is throw it in a pot with some meat and veggies and I’m set for a delicious dinner tonight! Service is quick and über-friendly!

Nabeya Maido is definitely going to be one of my new go-to’s when I’m craving nabe or hot pot. I came here for the first time with a few friends on a weeknight for dinner. They don’t take reservations. Luckily for us, there was no wait time. My old go-to hot pot place is ALWAYS crowded, so this was a big plus. The inside is bright and spacious. There was a good amount of space between tabes– always good. Service was great. My friend and I had arrived ahead of time from our other friend who was meeting us there, so we sat down early and had a look at the menu. We had a few questions since it was out first time, and our server was very knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions on what was popular and such very confidently. Smart and well-spoken servers definitely earn a place extra points with me. We decided to go with the spicy nabe. I always tend to go for the«spicy» option when I choose a broth for hot pot, but also, our server mentioned that the spicy nabe was one of the more popular ones. They do offer a split pot with two soup bases here, but you would have to pay for each one. Each broth was around $ 8 or so. The spicy broth was delicious. Spicy, but not too spicy, it had a slight sweetness with a gochujang flavor. Also somehow, even when the broth had reduced from boiling while we were eating, it never really became too salty. It is free, though, for additional soup stock, so take advantage of that if you like to drink the soup. Like other hot pot places, Nabeya Maido has a few refrigerators from which you can pick your various meats, vegetables, and noodles. They have everything you could ever want when you’re eating nabe! They also offer a few preselected menus, but I prefer to pick and choose what I like. Finally, all nabe comes with a set of their house made sauces. Be sure to try the gomadare(yellow one), a thick sesame flavored sauce, and the ponzu– they were my favorites! Overall, Nabeya Maido is a fantastic choice if you’re feeling some nabe one night. I’ll definitely be back again!

Definitely one of my new favorite hot pot places! Finally tried this place the other day and the first brownie point was that it wasn’t crowded. Most other hot pot places are so crowded and have huge waiting lists if you go right at prime dinner hour, so you’re eating dinner either really early or later in the night when you’re all snappy and irritated because you’re so hungry. Although this place doesn’t take reservations, there was no wait and I didn’t see anyone having to queue outside for a table! Our server was really knowledgable about everything on the menu since we were first timers. They have a «Food Cave,» which is basically like the refrigerated section where you pick all your meats and veggies(like Sweet Home). They are known for their nabe, and ours was already waiting for us when we got back to our table. We ordered the Spicy nabe and it wasn’t too overwhelming like how some soup bases are. They also give you their specialty sauces(be sure to ask them which one is which because some of the bottles don’t have labels). I had a great dining experience here; it wasn’t hectic like normal packed restaurants and there was no heat wave due to everyone in a hot pot cooking frenzy. I will definitely be coming back again to try more of their nabe!

Our first visit to Kaimuki’s wildly popular Nabeya Maido Japanese Hot Pot restaurant started out with a bit of worry as the parking lot was full. Of course, we did expect the crowd since we arrived at the peak of lunchtime. We circled around and eventually found a space right in front of the restaurant. The parking lot is shared by several eateries within this Market City Shopping Center which now includes a brand new Walgreens. As soon as we entered the restaurant, a male voice shouted out«Irrashaimase» from behind the Noren(暖簾). A smiling young man wearing a fedora emerged from the kitchen to seat us. We mentioned that it was our first time to dine here so we weren’t familiar with the ordering process. The young man turned out to be the affable General Manager, Kevin. He presented us menus, mentioned their limited lunch special and described the six(6) different house made soup bases. While it took us a few minutes to decide, Kevin was off to continue waiting on the other diners. We appreciated Kevin’s personable, attentive service and willingness to take the time to help us with our selection… in fact, he recommended the limited lunch special which includes a single soup base and suggested that we could«fortify» the basic special with a couple of dishes from«Da Cave»(a small side room with a couple of refrigerators that were full of different meats, seafood, vegetable and noodle plates). Each type of food category was pre-sliced and plated on different colored plates. The colored plates(green, yellow, red or blue) were each assigned a price that ranged from $ 2.90 to $ 5.90, respectively. We ordered the lunch special, selected the Paitan(白湯) Nabe soup base and went to get a plate of sliced lotus root, beef tongue and fishcake balls. Meanwhile, Kevin had set a pot of the broth on the induction hot plate to come to a boil for us. He continued his effortlessly efficient and friendly service among all of the occupied tables. He even returned to further give us a mini-tutorial on the«how-to’s» of nabe or shabu shabu and descriptions of their house made dipping sauces… Kevin truly gave us a course in «Nabe 101». The broth was flavorful and as we cooked the items on our plates, we realized that we didn’t need any additional dipping sauce. Although, we really enjoyed the mouthfeel and flavors of the Gomadare(sesame seed) and the gochujang-based«Lily» sauce. My husband was about to ask for a soup spoon but I did remind him that the Japanese culture doesn’t necessarily use soup spoons like the Chinese or Koreans. Ahem, we don’t normally get spoons to eat/drink miso soup so why would we get spoons at a Japanese Hot Pot? Kevin confirmed my explanation to my husband when he stopped by to refill our water glasses. We were contentedly full and got to chat a bit more with Kevin as the restaurant emptied out. There was even a little bit of excitement when one of the patrons required medical assistance, which had nothing to do with the food, and Kevin jumped into action by calling 9−1−1 for an ambulance. We sure hope that all is well with the customer and family. Anyway, the food quality and soup base flavor was very good. But, what would bring us back for more is the comfortable, personable and attentive service. If you haven’t tried Nabeya Maido yet, you need to make the Time to go! #508

NOTE: I give 4.5 stars! But since Unilocal has no half rating, I rounded it off to 5 :) If there is an 80’s song to describe this place it would be «Heaven isn’t too far away». This place is a hotpot haven for fanatics, such as myself! If I could slurp on the broth all day. Talk about a burst of flavor! Some of you are probably thinking«WTH is a hotpot??» To break it down simply, it’s a pot with your choice of broth. The broth is brought on the table where it’s placed on a hotplate/tabletop stove and is kept at near boiling temperatures. You put your choices of veggies and meat in to cook. You can add noodles or eat it with rice. Why I like it? It is because you can eat all the meat and veggies you want and it’s boiled in the broth. Less fat and lots of carb control! What that means is it’s a great meeting place for people who love to eat and people who are watching what they eat! Discounts: They have a $ 9.99 lunch special! Also, if you check in on Unilocal, you get 10% off. Customer Service: By the time we got to the door, we were greeted and told us the estimated wait time. It was a busy night and we waited for 25 minutes. When we finally got a table, it was cleaned and set up for us. We ordered our broth and the platter of veggies. In minutes we had our broth in front of us. Fabulous! They checked on us frequently if we needed water or more broth. Unfortunately, we did have hiccups on customer service this night. We came at a busy night, and they forgot to give my boyfriend napkins. He asked two different staff members, and both forgot. Never got them. The big hiccup was the waitress gave us the wrong check and it was $ 30 over. It had things we didn’t even order. We got it cleared up and fixed. She also apologized. Overall, customer service is still excellent! I think we may have had a new waitress, but I’m glad they fixed it. I’m sure with a couple more months of experience she’ll be awesome. This is why I dinged only half a star. Ambience: The place is small, but they did a great job fitting the tables well and making the place look welcoming. They have wooden walls that match the wooden tables. Before you step in, you get that inviting feeling. Food: We ordered their classic broth with garlic and seasoning and a platter plate of veggies and meat(the black plate!) It was fabulous! The broth had the perfect flavor with a hint of spice. The dipping sauces were my favorite. They have many broth choices and some are vegan! If this is your first time trying it, mix your veggie or meat in the dipping sauce and chomp away. Wash it down with the yummy broth! What makes the food different from the other hotpot places is that the broth and the sauces paired together makes a great combination of flavors. The sides are put on plates and numbered by colors. You pick what you want to add in your hotpot. What I loved is they give you free refills on the broth. Overall, The food is healthy, lowfat and very delicious. The customer service had its good moments and has a couple of hiccups. It was a great dinner and I would totally recommend this place for a lunch date or date night spot. The only thing we didn’t care for was the tight parking, but that, is another review for another establishment! Aggie signing off! ^_^*

I like getting my own food rather than having pre set platter of veggies and meat. Means I could get plenty of nira and mushrooms and not too much meat. Got their spicy broth which turned out to be too seasoned. Next time will get a milder broth. Plenty of choices in their food cave or pantry. Dipping sauces have to be paid for. And I think maybe not that yummy. Four of us went and we could only have two broths bc only one induction set up. So the hub and I had to share a broth side. Which means we couldn’t get different broths. He likes super mild and I like spicy. So didn’t like that. Also turned out to be pricier than going to one of those pre set places like asuka. Will try it again but not sure how it’d work with multiple people. Didn’t like sharing a broth space.

It was Christmas day, and when you’ve been eating all day… what better way to go, then to eat some more? Lol! By dinner time, I was pretty sure that there was no way I was gonna cook anything, so we decided to forge out for a place to eat with my sweetie, sis, & my bruddah… and low and behold, we ended up at this place called Nabeya Maido! I must say, I’m not a big fan of hot pot… as I don’t care to sit in front of a hot boiling pot of soup, sweating & cooking my own food, but I must say… a hot pot is the perfect item to have on a cold winter day! After trying Nabeya Maido, I must say, it’s a pretty good place to eat, as they serve up some really fresh ingredients for their hot pot! How this place operates — 1. Upon getting seated, you order your soup broth for the hot pot(there are several types, I wanna say about 4 or 5 types). We picked the Maido Nabe soup broth which was simply delicious! 2. From there, you go to the«Da Food Cave» to grab items you want to put into your hot pot. You are charged accordingly to the color of the plate you choose — 1. Green Plate — $ 2.90 per plate. 2. Yellow Plate — $ 3.90 per plate. 3. Blue Plate — $ 5.90 per plate. 4. Omakase Plate #2 —(Starter Plate– which has a little of everything — meat/veggies) $ 18.90 per plate. After picking up an array plates of stuff to dump in our soup(see pics) from the«Da Food Cave», after eating up the various items in your hot pot… what was left with a really delicious soup broth! 3. It’s basically cook your own, and the dipping sauces, & rice were provided free of charge with your meal. The staff at Nabeya Maido provided really great service! The food was fresh, and very healthy for you! We were also very lucky that night, as my sweetie was able to get us a 15% discount from Kevin(the GM), from our Unilocal connection! Yay for Unilocal! Yay for KEVIN!!! UDAMAN!!! A big«MAHALO», and shoutout to Kevin… as he took the time to visit each diner at all the tables(including ours), and he was nice enough to take a «selfie» photo with us! As you know… Kevin is really popular, and real good at taking selfies too! Lol! Lots of free parking in the little strip mall… Nabeya Maido is located just next door from Gina’s Korean BBQ at the Market City Shopping Center. The same strip mall as where Foodland & Walgreens is… check it out gang! Pretty good grindages here!

This place is definitely in my top 3 for hot pot! The last time I was here, I tried the curry broth, and omg, I melted. I’m normally not a curry fan, but I owed it to a buddy to let him pick the broth and I was FLOORED! Rich, flavorful, and not too thick! Side note: the original broth is my favorite, but curry is definitely a contender here. Food cave: Awesome choices! I appreciate that the tofu is held in a bowl filled with water! It keeps the tofu nice and moist and prevents it from getting that sour taste. And MEAT is in the food cave! No more ordering and waiting x amount of time for the meat to be cut off a frozen block! Parking: It can be tight at times, but hey, it’s free parking and there’s plenty of it. Happy hour OR10% Unilocal check in?! GOFORIT! This is definitely a convenient spot for my to get my hot pot fix on. I’ll be back!

Definitely in love with this place. The lunch special is such a great deal and then stacked on top of that is the –20% happy hour special! It’s pretty dang healthy, too; mostly loaded with vegetables, so if you’re a meat fiend, you will probably have to grab more protein from the«food cave.» I have an average appetite and it was just the right portion size for me. We had the curry and house special broths and both were OK. I really enjoyed the house made sauces that they provide, especially the red spicy one! Now on service. The waiter that served us was nothing short of awesome. Excellent at explaining things and he was constantly checking up on us. He was at our table like 10x asking us if we were doing okay, refilling our soup, water, etc. Super appreciated :). Tip: DO ask for the lunch special. I tried looking around for some signage about the deal, but couldn’t find it… maybe I have crappy eyes, but always good to ask! Tip 2/rant: Parking here sucks. Always.

This place is amazing! I came here with the Unilocal family for a meeting and holiday luncheon(Thanks Emi and Sherri! :)) What better way to pop my cherry for Nebeya Maido with the greatest people you will ever meet! The restaurant was easy to find, and parking was also a breeze, however very tight stalls(don’t use a huge car, because cars are quite intimate here ;)) We came around lunch time! When entering this restaurant, you can already smell HOTPOTGOODNESS, its like heavens gate opening, only HOTPOTHEAVEN! Me and fellow intern Shelly arrived early, and were seated as we waited for the rest of the gang! Can I just say«A PLUS» for customer service! I totally forgot our servers name but he was amazing! First off he was very informative, he knew the whole menu, and had patience! When our whole party arrived, we let Emi and Sherri do the ordering for us. The lunch special is such a great deal but they have a limited amount so come early! We ordered a spicy Both, and a non-spicy broth(BOTHWEREFANTASTIC, and they refill soup: D) I was probably not paying attention to the food because I was in a trance every time I took a bit, but there was variety of goodies in the lunch special, from meat balls, veggies, tofu, noodles, etc. you just can’t get any better than that!!! Our orders came in a matter or minutes! Everything looked amazing, however there was limited space for everything, so it was a little bit to cramped, but hey you can’t always get what you want!(I’d rather have a cramped space with amazing food and service, rather than the opposite) This Hot Pot restaurant is like most Hot Pot places, you grab plate according to color and prices, and you have a basket of selected sauces to eat your food with! The food was amazing, the prices were fantastic, and the service was exceptional! P. S.KEVIN is the MAN! Best SELFIEMASTEREVER!!!

Craving Hot Pot after my sisters basketball game around 3PM but all the places we usually go were closed until dinner time. We found this place on Unilocal and checked it out. Before 5:30 is Happy Hour so we got 20% off! Awesome deal. I really enjoyed the food. We got the Maido and Akakara broths. Both super good! They had a food cave with all the typical choices of vegetables, seafood, noodles and what not. I’m used to getting dessert after eating hot pot so we tried their ice cream pies. They were okay, not made in house. We got the haupia chocolate and the chocolate Kona coffee pie. Overall I’d come back again. The servers were so friendly, fast, and so willing to help you with any question you had. Just one thing is that there were little ants crawling on the table and walls, not a lot but, they were noticeable. Other than that this place is a nice place to come and get hot pot. Also the 10% off orders on Unilocal is good every time you come! :)

Five Reasons To Eat At Nabeya Maido: 1) You’re supporting a locally owned business that provides wonderful customer service. 2) The owner Kevin is an amazing person and he is the best group selfie taker on Earth. I’m pretty sure if there was a competition or award for selfie taking, he’d win! 3) Kevin and his Dad built all the benches in Nabeya Maido together. Awwww feel that sweet father and son love in your soul. 4) Food cave + maido nabe broth + all the free dipping sauces = Tasty and healthy meal that is a fun cooking experience for couples and families! 5) 20% during happy hour if you’re there before 5:30pm(Cha-ching!) P. S. I love Kevin!!!

LUNCHSPECIAL! For $ 9.90 or $ 18.90 for 2 person Omakase, you can get a broth of your choice(2 broths if you order the Omakase) plus a plate full of veggies, meat and free sauces everyday from 11 – 4:00(I believe). This is the best lunch deal around. On top of that, if you add additional plates from the«food cave» or order any drinks(non alcohol) you get 20% off of that too! According to the sign outside, they prepare only 10 lunch special plates on the weekdays and 15 plates on the weekend. We went at 1pm on a Sunday and there were 2 lunch specials left. The lunch special comes with a broth, pork belly, chicken, meatballs, tofu and veggies. The 2 person Omakase comes with shrimp, tobiko fish balls, rib-eye, pork belly, tofu and veggies. I preferred the lunch special, as the rib eye on the Omakase plate was a little too think for my taste, but still a good deal. From the Food Cave, I really love the shrimp gyoza and the tobiko fish balls. The service is incredibly friendly and I’ve only seen 2 guys working there the couple of times that I went. They work SO hard, given that they are the only ones serving the entire restaurant, and they still manage to be so pleasant and polite, and bring us everything we request. For this alone they get 5 stars! The ambiance is modern and cozy. The nabe itself is delicious, especially the Bijin broth, which is a creamy soy based soup. Once it boils up, it creates a soft, fluffy tofu that is truly delicious. My kids and I LOVE it and it’s packed with minerals and vitamins AND low calorie! Don’t forget to try the ice cream pie if you’re not too full from your meal! My favorite out of all the flavors was the chocolate espresso with an Oreo crust. While I still love Ichiriki, Nabeya-Maido is such a deal with great food and wonderful service-go and support this small local business. It will be worth your while and dollar too!

Great lunch specials and if the special is not enough, plates with other goodies are available for purchase. The broths were excellent and by far one of the better nabe(hot pot) places I’ve tried. The service is excellent and the order process is very organized and systematic. Modern burners are there for the use; unlike the old fashioned butane burners. They are one of the newer kids in town but I’m certain they will be around for a long time to come. They are located in the old Market City Shopping Center on the corner of Kapiolani and Harding and to those who know this place will say getting into the center is a problem(unless you know your way around) and then once you’re in there finding a parking stall can be very taxing. But that said, the taste of the broth, the value of what you receive and the service makes everything else inconsequential. A great place for comfort food.

Having high hopes and expectations from Sweet Home, Asuka, and Ichiriki… We ordered the maido broth which was full of flavor. It reminded me of a more rich flavor of pirikara from Ichiriki. If you think ichiriki’s pirikara broth is yummy then you have to try the maido broth. For food, we ordered the omakase plate for 2 which has beef, pork, mochi, enoki mushrooms, 2 types of cabbage, watercress, fish ball with tobiko, and wayyyyyy more stuff. The portion was huge and good enough for me and my boyfriend to share. Service amazing just like the other reviews. They are so friendly and ready to fill up your pot up with broth if needed for free. Would def come back again soon but maybe earlier for their 20% off happy hour. Oh and maybe lunch too for their $ 9.90 special! Even though they don’t have a free shave ice dessert… It’s okay because it’s so worth it!
This nabe spot is located in Market City next to the giant tree on the upper level. They have benches out front for customers waiting for a table. Inside you find the food cave and many tables with cooking stations. The food cave has different varieties of seafood, meats and veggies. It’s very welcoming as you walk in and are greeted by smiles from the friendly staff. It’s just what I’m looking for before starting a good meal. I’ve dined here for both lunch and dinner. Personally I like coming here for lunch more because it’s easier to find parking and usually there is no wait to eat. The Chinese in me loves the lunch special that’s only $ 9.90! They have 10 sets of these lunch specials during weekdays and 15 sets during the weekend. It’s first come, first serve so make sure to be there early. The set is full of veggies, tofu, pork, chicken, mushrooms, udon and comes with the broth of your choice. We like their Maido Nabe broth which is also a best seller. The set is pretty filling for me but sometimes Mink likes to go to the food cave and get a plate of the fishcake with roe. The staff here is always friendly and come by to check on how the meal is going while refilling water. It feels pretty intimate when you’re dining with the set up of the booths and tables which are sectioned off. Don’t worry if you didn’t bring enough cash because they accept all major credit cards. They have a variety of drinks along with draft beer that you can order to compliment your meal. I really like drinking a bottle of Hakkaisan with my meal. It’s the perfect combo for me. With their awesome lunch special, they are now a favorite lunch spot for me. If you can’t make it to lunch, they are great for dinner too! Can’t wait to come back soon.
