Ohh Primo Sushi— why ohh why did Oceans become Oceans 808 and now M??? You were the best bar sushi by far, you went so well with Kettle One! Now you are closed and they have American Fusion at M, by far not as good as you were. So in case you are not in the know– M nightclub is still open in the same location as Oceans and Oceans 808. The Hey Day of Oceans was when it was Oceans. But this is closed now and the house kitchen is taken over in M. I don’t know why sushi bars are going in closed places, Ra and 808. Just making a note to pay more attention to good sushi when it is so hard to find in great venues that play music that I like. Closed.

Attended a thank you party tonight for a local non-profit with heavy pupus being served: fried rice, seared ahi, chicken skewers, thinly sliced beef + mini red velvet cupcakes. While enjoying my fried rice, I pulled out a 6 – 7 inch strand of blonde hair. My BF + I both have black hair. Thank Buddha, it wasn’t a pubic hair. P. S. The food was either dry, bland, or both. Just for the heck of it I am going to do a review for here even if they are closing after this weekend… For old times sake. My friends and I had heard it was closing its doors at the end of August so we made plans to come to Oceans 808 with our group of friends who used to go to the original Oceans with us when we were in our 20’s. Now that we are all in our late 30’s and some in their early 40’s(YIKES that was difficult to reread) we figured make it a night to play homage to a place where we had some great memories and good times. In fact two of the couples with us actually met at Oceans and now are married with kids. We had a total of 21 of our gang that night who came out to party at Oceans one last time. Although they added some stuff to the décor and it looks a little different since we used to come here, the layout and everything is still pretty much the same and we couldn’t help but have some cocktails, reminisce and laugh! The DJ helped in the process by playing mostly 80’s and 90’s grooves and we ended up dancing the entire night even if the place consisted of the 21 of us and maybe 20 other people! :) We will definitely miss this place and the memories it holds. It’s an end of an era… Unilocal 365 challenge: 24⁄365

The last time I went to Oceans was after 2am a few weekends ago. Here’s a summary of the brief 30 minutes I was there: Shortly after my bf and I got there, a guy was forcefully being escorted out. Then roughly 1 shot later, a girl was getting carried out and another escorted out. I don’t know about you, or all those other people that were still raging, but having patrons being escorted/carried out can’t be a good sign. We got the eff outta there. As we walked back to my car, I felt like I had to keep checking over my shoulder to make sure I wasn’t going to get cracked with a bottle or something. My friend Jon saw someone sitting down on the side bleeding from the head as he walked back to his car.(Not to worry, there were people attending to that wounded individual.) Needless to say, my bf and I won’t be going back to Oceans for a very long time.

I had to minus 2 stars from my original review due to a less than stellar experience at happy hour last week. As I mentioned previously, the happy hour prices on their sushi are absolutely positively worth visiting their happy hour… or so I thought. My friend had discovered on visit to happy hour on a Wednesday in the beginning of this year that they only offered their sushi at happy hour prices on certain days of the week. Unfortunately for him Wednesday wasn’t one of those days. He did find out that it’s offered on Fridays, and so we found ourselves at Oceans on Aloha Friday. We decided to sit at an actual table versus at the skinny rectangular«tables near the center. Some renovations actually took place from the last time I was there: The water-wall feature with changing colors that separated the VIP area from the main part of the club was taken down. And of course this are was already occupied by the time we arrived. The table we choose to sit at was right behind a pillar so I guess that might have been the«excuse» for the waitress to take FOREVER to come and take our drink orders. While we wait for our drink orders, we look over the happy hour menu and decide to order the garlic fries, sweet chili chicken, soy beans, calamari, and the lava and spyder sushi rolls. Well, it turns out that they weren’t offering the sushi menu that evening either due to prep taking place for a private party later that evening. What a HUGE letdown. SO disappointing. But not only was that disappointing, but the rest of the food we ordered was just ok. The garlic fries seemed as if it was swimming in oil, and the pieces of chicken was just tiny morsels compared to what I remember from previous visits. SERVICE: Pretty much non-existent throughout the entire evening. It was just a lucky thing that one of the bartenders took the initiative to come over and check on us. We left HIM a generous tip. Bottom Line: I’d definitely think twice before considering happy hour here again. I think the best thing to come out of the entire evening was the free validated parking.

Never thought I would like Oceans(cuz my mom used to go there LOL) but I’ve grown to like it! I always run into someone I know here, I love that the bathroom has more than 3 stalls, more than one bar, and it has an outside… Plus you’ll never run of money if your a cute female, cuz there’s always a dude to pay for your drinks ;p

I recall the days when the outside patio would be packed full of good looking men and women. I loved the idea that you had to be 23 or older, which kept the crowd mature and classy. And of course, if you were a girl and were 21 you had a good chance of working yourself in to this relatively exclusive venue. But that was then and this is now… 2 stars for the letdown this place has become. :( Unlike many, I had hope. Maybe not hope that Oceans 808 would be the party haven it was when it was simply«Oceans.» Something definitely happened after the renovation. It’s been a minute since I went clubbing here but last weekend it was a close friend of mine’s birthday. It was nice that so many friends I don’t get to see on a normal basis were out. The mood was right but the ambiance was just not that haps here. I don’t understand clubs that charge males on the guest list $ 5 cover before 11:30pm. Just another reason to be glad I’m a lady. The dance floor was full of of course very single bachelors surrounded by cliques of gals. We had a table on near the bar so that was a huge benefit. The party started to pick up at around 12:30am. I could tell as more and more«freak» dancing began and the screaming escalated. The outside lounge or what was once known as the«smoking» area was empty. It use to be that both inside and outside of the club was packed. One thing is certain, the crowd is definitely not the same. It appears to appeal to the younger folk, early to late 20’s. I recall Oceans appealing to what is now the Pearl crowd. I do appreciate the music with the occassional 80’s and 90’s throwback tunes mixed in with the top 40 line-up!

I always wanted to go here because there aren’t any teen boppers and I could never get in because I wasn’t 23! But when the time finally came I was so excited to go. The first night I went was on a friday night and it was with my girlfriends birthday. So it is always a plus to be on the guest-list because free cover before 11pm but it is half off for guys. The venue itself has a good setup, there is a dance floor in the center and a stage like for the bar and the VIP area. I like how there is also outdoor seating if you need to breath and use your phone. I just like the atmosphere of the place the DJ usually plays a good music list and the people are mixed with locals and visitors. But quick tip never ever go there on a saturday night! I went there for a bachelor party on a saturday night and I felt like I was at rumors with a bunch of oldies. It was DEAD and there was nothing happening! There was this one lady she was probably in her 50’s and she was the only one working the dance floor, so we decided to join her and oh my she was getting us to do the bridge and that was hysterical! She got a upset because we weren’t working like how she was so we decided to bounce and head out somewhere that was actually alive!

Dang, this place is still around? This review is from memory from way back when. Probably 10 years ago. So if anything, this review will show consistency. They used to have Aloha Shirt Tuesday or Thursday. I think it was Thursday. The pupu’s were super cheap and they had Kahuku Coconut Shrimp that was fresh and tasty. They also had music back then and it was a pretty nice spot. Cheap good drinks. huge buffalo wing pupus and the Kahuku Coconut shrimp pupus. . To tell the truth, I have not had Coconut Shrimp like I had here. eva! But, remember. this is over ten years ago. I hope. really hope it is the same. Back then it seemed the the shrimp farms were better, too. They fo sho were cheaper. One last thing. all of you who live on the island. don’t take your fish for granted… ever! Some of the best around. Last note. my 80 year old dad came here on aloha night and was treated like a king. Kahuku Shrimp, music, drink and a ton of aloha… a reason to move to Oahu.

Excited about this place, since it got 4 stars and it doesnt close til 4 am… but i think we came on the wrong day! Entrance was $ 10, and it was kind of empty… and it was an older crowd. They played 80s all night, and some top 40. Eventually people started dancing and i got drunk so it was cool! i heard Friday nights is really poppin though!

$ 2 drink specials on Tuesdays. All wells. I was happy with my cranberry vodkas. Red bull vodka was $ 4.50. Apparently white russians qualify for the $ 2 deal. Bc they were using wells I definitely tasted the alcohol… but it wasn’t unpleasant. It was also pretty strong which is a bonus– a bang for your buck! We actually didn’t intend on coming here because were actually planning to go Bonsai but at 930PM it was closed! WTF! Ocean’s it is. It’s a decent club with all the aqua lights and bubbles. Clean enough. The music selection was pretty good too– they played all the music videos of the songs the DJ was playing on the TVs. We came on the same night as a private office party, so we just sat at the bar. Wow I wish I worked at that office, they were going crazy on the dance floor! I didn’t try any of their food, I’m basically just writing a review to advertise their $ 2 drink specials cause it’s a good deal!!! Bartenders were also very attentive and nice. Ours might’ve undercharged us, but at that point I couldn’t remember how many we had. WHOOPS. Thanks! Don’t know if I would go back on a non-Tuesday though… it wasn’t THAT nice. I’d prob rather go to a different club. Also I’m unsure of the crowd, regular drink prices, etc… 3.5 stars rounded down. But hey, when you’re in good company, anywhere with good drink specials will be fun!

I don’t know if they usually do this on Saturday nights, but the music was on hit! They were playing all my late 80’s /early 90’s jams — Lisa Lisa, Sweet Sensation, you name it… Drinks are strong and there’s a pretty decent dance floor. Doesn’t seem to get too crowded and the bathrooms have attendants. None of us were really feeling the crowd but the music was basically my dream Pandora station all in one shot.

I’d rate Oceans around 3 – 3.5 stars based on the venue alone, but I had such a fun night there that I rounded up to 4 stars. Came here on a Friday night and it got supa crowded later on. We got there relatively early, before 11ish but still had to wait in line for VIP. For some reason, no one started dancing until past midnight — then all of the sudden the floor became packed. Drink prices are not bad at all and I was definitely on a good one. Music and DJ were really good and the main reason why I like Oceans — just a lot of good hip hop. There is an outside patio area, but it’s non-smoking. I’d definitely come here again.

I’m no prude, but the crassness of contantly rotating booty shots of girls in thongs is mildly revolting if you’re not patronizing a strip club. This was the case last night, as they were advertising their Bikini Night on the flat-screens. Kind of distracting when you’re talking to someone and over their shoulder, an 80s-style Penthouse wannabe is flashing her crack to the masses. May I suggest rotating in some classier images? But I digress. I have good memories of this place since even before it became the incarnation of Oceans 808. The upsides: good Happy Hour prices, usually pretty fun music, and a nice big venue for hosting events. It draws a slightly older crowd, so it’s not a kiddie club. They also renovated a couple years ago, so it’s a nice, clean ambiance. The downsides — you’re pretty much required to drive(or cab it) over because it’s out of the way, even if you live downtown. And the hours of operation throw me off – I’ve shown up more than once in early evening hours to discover they’re closed, or closed for an event. Yeah, someone more«in the know» would have a handle on these things, but I don’t. Anyway, hey, it’s worth a go. Nice place, good people, tasty food. Always a fun time.

I went here for the first time after going to First Friday(also my first time for that). There was just a FUN vibe to this place. Nice, sleek décor was refreshing. This place is pretty big and the bright colors(not tacky, though) kept it exciting. I had a good time. I would go back! One thing, though… the go-go dancers were subpar. I was turned off.

Yes on a thursday night. I attended the Avant Garde Fashion Show on April 1, 2010. I actually like Oceans. When it was just Oceans and now as Oceans 808. I use to do Thursday’s alot and just this past visit I realized that either I was getting old(i’m going to be 28 this year… yikes! LOL) or it was getting dead. I took into the consideration of it being Thursday. The crowd’s changed for sure. Saturdays, i beg to differ. I still like Saturdays :) Again I don’t go as much as two of my girlfriends are very much banned. One is getting married and the other is in Seattle. But other than that… I don’t mind going once in a while. It’s chill.

Got here around 10ish… and it was DEAD. I know clubs really dont get hoppin till later, but damn there was noone. After about an hour or so it really started filling up to what it should be. Unfortunately I was tired as hell from a long day, so I didnt stay out too late. I really liked the setup and such, and the crowd looked good. I was not a big fan of the DJ though… too much top40 mixing crap. I know thats what most people like… but I need some good house/electronic too in there. Free validated parking is nice, just make sure you have a DD because the drinks seemed pretty strong!

So I don’t know if we just came on an off night(I believe it was Friday), or everyone was somewhere else, but me no likey. I’m usually a nice girl, but sometimes. some places just bring out the bitch in me. Especially when you waste my night. Especially, when it’s a vacation night. First off, crowd felt super under aged. My girls & I can fit right in and blend in and be down with the best of them, but this shit was just ridiculous. I almost felt like I was at a high school dance. A few more unremarkable moments were as follows: *Go-go dancers were laughable. C’mon, I know there has got to be better Hawaiian ass that can shake up in this piece. *Midget-y short boys reeking of alcohol trying to slur their best pick up lines and/or rudely stare at us as we walked by. *There was this one chick, probably high off E, with all her long stringy hair in her face as she struck a pose and danced around like a poor man’s Madonna/Lady GaGa. If there was a neon sign above her head it would read«Now accepting applications for date rape». *Cheesy strip club like décor and the first bar you hit when you enter was so tall, you seriously would have to be a basketball player for it to be at waist level. How do you expect your dominant clientele to order here, Oceans? I’m pretty tall and it hit me just above boobie level. I guess the intent is to make tall people feel short? The one and only cool thing I noticed was the glass top of the bar with water flowing through it. Nice touch. If I could only SEEOVERTHETOPOFTHEBAR! Anyway, after about less than an hour we couldn’t tolerate this spectacle any longer. Epic fail of a night. Do yourself a favor and visit the REAL Oceans of 808 — I.e. the Pacific Ocean. That ocean will not disappoint!

Yes you’re back and you guys need a few weeks to work out the bugs and then I’ll be back for an update. All my friends work here so I’m trying my best not to be biased. This was opening night, c’mon Jay what is up with the bottle service? This is how we received our first bottle of patron That’s either evaporation at it’s best or your employees are swishing some shots behind yo’ back. Yeah the bubble walls are cool. Yeah they gave us the V.I.P. tables up top, that was nice of you guys but service was slow, I had to go to the bar where the bartenders seriously still kick some ass. I did have a blast, so here’s to wishing my girl Sisi a Happy Birthday and Mathew too. I’ll be back to give you guys that 5th star, hopefully soon. 3.75 stars, stretching it big time.
