While living on Oahu On On was my go to place for Chinese. I usually went once a month after a hike or going to the museum to get my duck fix. The service is always quick, waters are full, and the tea plentiful. Especially during the el nino when the trade winds were dead it was always nice to come somewhere with good food and AC. Favorite things on the menu are the duck, fried oysters, cake noodle, salt and pepper pork, and for the love of all things holy the green beans with ground pork(its an off menu item and I crave it all the time). I am already planning to come back when I fly back to visit in December, On On and straight over to Leonard’s.

I really debated leaving a review because I appreciate small businesses. However, this place is awful and I don’t want anyone else to waste their money. We came in around 3pm one day last week and it was dead in there. We sat at a table and were not served. Finally the hostess let us know in choppy English that«she was waiting for us to order.» I guess we needed to come to the register, still not sure. She met us halfway, as we got up and walked across the restaurant, and we ordered standing beside her at a random table. She brought waters and did not offer soda or any other drink, so we didn’t get anything else. I really wanted a soda and she could’ve added three bucks to our bill by easily offering us other beverages. The food also left a lot to be desired. I ordered fried rice with beef and I swear to you the beef chunks were smaller than a pea. And questionable looking. He had the Orange chicken which was average, but overpriced. We sat there quietly and ate our food sadly disappointed, but then we went over to Leonards for Malasadas and that made it better:)

This is one my favorite Chinese restaurant on the island. Hands down best minute chicken cake noodle I’ve EVER had. The owner is really nice and the service is fast. Give it a try you won’t regret it!

ZEROSTARS! This place is not worth your breath. They give all Chinese restaurants a very bad name and live up to the stereotypical rudeness. Obnoxius and discourteous service. DONOTGOHERE!!!

Based on their wor wonton mein soup. Very little vegetables and not much else. Their gon lo mein is also not very good. Lam’s is better. Their best dish is the minute chicken cake noodle. The wor wonton mein is better at Duk Kee(more ingredients in it). Husband owner is nice, wife owner is not nice and can be very rude at times. They just remodeled so interior is nicer than most Chinese restaurants.

Food was so so but the service was horrible. Not worth trekking to town for. Waste of time and money. I think the waitress was prejudice because anyone looking Chinese were seated and served with good attitude and prompt service. We were seated then forgotten. Had to raise my hand after waiting for 15 minutes to get a menu and ask for water. Should’ve left but traffic going both ways was unbearable. We never had our glasses of water refilled. I guess they must be conserving water. But it seems that everyone else were being topped off constantly. Really was upset and will never go here again.

The first time I came into this place was a few years ago. The people were very friendly and the food was great. That said for some reason they are complete jerks these days and have really turned me off. It’s a shame because I really love 1 of the dishes they make. The last time I ate there the woman was so rude it took me about a year to go back. A couple days ago was that day. It had been a while but immediately I remembered how rude the woman there was and why it had been so long since I was there last. We were 1 of 2 tables sat in the restaurant and it still took awhile just to be acknowledged. When we were it was by our server who is also an owner throwing a couple menus at us and rolling her eyes. She legit tossed the menus at us. A few minutes passed. No drink or food order was taken. Our menus were folded and at the edge of the table. Again I have to say we were one of two tables sat in the entire place so there was no reason to be ignored. After more then 5 minutes I could not take it anymore and walked out the door. I have had bad service over time but never in my life have I actually felt as if I was disliked or a burden on the server. I guess this time I will give it 2 years til I come back.

Owners Albert and Jamie run this small but wonderful, under-the-radar neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Despite some negative reviews posted by others here I have had nothing but great service there. They treat you like family there, and I’ve been going there for years. And the food! Oh my goodness! They have bar none the best cold ginger chicken I have ever had anywhere. They know how to do tasty Cantonese. What with the quality of food, friendly service, and very reasonable prices, this trifecta of a restaurant gets high marks from this very satisfied customer.

Growing up this is always one of my parents favorite Chinese restaurants. But as he grewup and went our separate ways, we found other places to eat that were more convenient. We have recently gone back to enjoy there Kau yuk pork and cake noodles. For many years there minute chicken noodle was a dinner regular for me. Tonight we had the minute chicken noodle and kau yuk with pork hash and duck egg. The owners are always friendly, and give the best service, remembering you and are attentive to your needs. A small quaint restaurant A busy Kapahulu Ave you can go to Get malasada right after your meal. A definite favorite that we will return to often and I’ve missed over the years.

Um. I called to make an order for take out and as the lady said what the combo was, I told her it wasn’t correct as to what menu was online and isn’t what we’d like, then she told me to call back and hung up… We didn’t call back…

Food is only decent. The server has such a piss poor attitude that this place is not worth a return trip. Rude. Almost want to accidentally knock over my glass of water. Go to Golden Duck.

I was at UH, working at Swensen’s Ice Cream next door to On On. Very nice people. They introduced me to deep fried oysters. I fell in love with them then, and still do. Traveling across the country I’ve always looked for this on the menu but it’s hardly there. And when I did find it, it did not come close to matching the hot flavor this morsel gave up. Most of the time they were small. Not On On’s. They were very good large sizes. Crack the top, pour a little shoyu to help bring out more flavor and to cool it down. Don’t need rice or anything else. I use to special order this by the whole take out container. I couldn’t stop eating them. I can truthfully say the myth is not true. hehehehe Now, returning to the islands, my craving shot through the roof. I couldn’t wait to get into the area. I finally did. It was afternoon after the lunch crowd. We walked in. Nice to see everything was nice, clean and cozy. It’s been a long time, decades, since I’ve been here and didn’t recognize anyone. Looking over the menu I found what I was looking for and ordered. Just that. Nothing else. It didn’t take too long for it to be brought out. Our waters were filled. It was a hot day and happy to be inside with AC. I crack the top, pour the shoyu, took the bite which was half of the battered oyster. I was so excited I forgot to take a pic. The size looked the same as I remembered and then I thought maybe they started using smaller size oysters. None of that. It was so delicious just as I remembered. Swensen’s is gone but the restaurant is still here. And, the deep fried oysters keeps me coming back. Hmm I think it’s time to go back all ready. lol

My favorite place for cake noodles, Chinese style fried rice, bitter melon pork, and Black bean spareribs on the island! The dishes come ala carte which is a good thing because that means you can try many things on the menu in one sitting! Ala carte also keeps the price down, which is never really an issue since everything is very affordable. The small family owned staff ensures that the food quality is consistently delicious and they work really hard to make sure i am always satisfied! An excellent place to go to for fresh traditional chinese dishes in a clean and bright environment.

I’m a regular customer there for many years. I like the food and the husband and wife owners take care of me. However, Last night was the last straw. It was busy(Christmas) I had to wait 50 mins for my takeout which they told me would take 25 mins. What closes this deal for me, Is the owners 2 daughters help out. They don’t know what they are doing. The younger one has a chip on her shoulder and doesn’t want to be there and is so rude and unprofessional. She’s there to help? She’s hurting the business more than helping. She snapped at me that night, The other daughter apologized. I’ve been putting up with her attitude for awhile. I used to bring my friends and family there all the time. Will never go back. I found better Ginger Chicken at Hung Won.

Owner wife rude. She’s the same every time we came in. If I want a lecture I would visit my own mom! We hadn’t been there in months and now I know why. Cha Siu burnt, my friends noodles tough! Won’t ever come back.

Ordered their House cake noodle dish and asked for the noodles to be separate from the sauce lady on phone hangs up on me. I call back to make sure she rudely says yes and hangs up on me again. So… Get there to pick up my order and guess what, the sauce is on the noodles. Great. Now we gonna have soggy cake noodles at dinner. I guess the lady that took my order is the owner and when I go to pay she just has this but has look on her face. Not ordering from here ever again

Dont pass this place by! It’s in the parking lot next to Leonard’s Bakery, right next to Karaōke Hut. It’s a small place with about 10 tables inside, but dont let the lowkey décor fool you. This family-run establishment has good Cantonese-style food, and just like many other Chinese places here, if you describe something not on the menu — chances are they can make it for you. Their dishes are made w lots of love and the aunty & uncle who run the place are down to talk story. I honestly recommend everything there.

Our first visit to On On… atmosphere appeared to be clean, the minute chicken with cake noodle was mediocre at best. To their credit, the Salt and Pepper Pork was delicious. Service was horrible! The rudest wait staff(waitress) I have ever encountered. As in other reviewers comments, the staff was speaking loudly in Chinese as if no one was there but them. When I inquired about the ingredients in a dish, she clearly was«put out» as her comment was, «everybody knows what that is. I can tell that you are not a regular customer.» It was a simple question that did not deserve a retort. Not planning to return. There are so many choices of Chinese restaurants in Honolulu, On On is on my «DONOTEATHERE» list.
