Before I begin this review of this market, let me just say I live around this area. So my ratings is merely based on its convenience near my home. I will not be comparing this to any other markets. I’ve lived in this neighborhood over 5 years and only last week I realized this event existed. For those of you expecting a huge open market then you come to the wrong place. Like I said this market is merely there to give the Salk Lake residents an option to buy fruits and vegetables. Its basically located in the parking lot. Salt Lake people know this parking lot as the only available parking area in congested Salt Lake. There are no more than 10 vendors. Its basically a place to buy fruits and vegetables and nothing else. So don’t expect to be blown away, but for Salt Lake residents who only have Safeway to depend on, this is a refreshing and welcoming event.

Smaller than other area farmer’s markets, but a fairly good selection of produce. I am a fan because I can get fresh mint for mojitos and cilantro for homemade salsa for $ 1 a bunch and it just happens to be right next to my building. The rest of the fresh produce is a bonus. Open on Saturdays from 11:15 — 12:00.

Probably one of the smaller farmer’s markets I’ve been to, but suits my needs, especially since within walking distance of my current place. Even with the small number of vendors, the selection can be overwhelming — probably since I can be indecisive at times especially with the need to wrap up shopping in the hour. Not sure how much of the produce is locally grown or organic — I don’t inquire because I don’t want to be disappointed. Anyhow my farmer’s market of choice at the moment.

Farmers’ Markets are called Open Markets in Hawaii. This is one of the smaller markets, but to be able to buy my food gets an extra star. The food is mostly locally grown, but like all the small markets, many items are imported. Hawaii only grows 15% of its food source, so that 85% also affect the open markets. Don’t let the listing fool you, the market actually opens earlier, but money is not exchanged until official time. At 11AM, everyone gets ready by selecting all their choices and have the cash handy. At 11:15, the horn blows, and money is exchanged. The system is funny, but it works. This is where I get my fresh pineapple — the guy at the first stand has a box. If you have had produce that has never been refrigerated or sprayed(to inhibit the naturally-rippen gas that produce emits), then you haven’t had good food… Don’t forget your reusable bags.
