The place is cute but that’s where the positive feedback ends. For the price, you get VERY meager amount of food. I paid nearly $ 4 for an order of broccoli and $ 4 for zucchini. They presented me with a few florets of broccoli and 5 thinly sliced zucchini. I ordered 2 servings of meat, 2 orders of broccoli and one order of zucchini. $ 40 later I left hungry. Won’t be returning.

Clean eating at its finest! My friend and I arrived on a Sunday night where only 2 small parties were there. We didn’t have to wait so we immediately sat down at the counters. In each section there’s a bunch of different sauces like ponzu, sesame, and ginger. There’s also shredded daikon and green onions on the side for you to enjoy. We both ordered the beef set where it comes with a nice size platter and a veggie plate which has items like wonbok, udon, enoki mushrooms, and more. Oh and don’t forget the rice. Like how Emi H. said… Thanks to places like Sweet Home, it’s hard to not have a flavorful broth when at hot pot place. Don’t forget to check in for 10% off! Clean flavors, healthy eating, and yummy sauces but I think I prefer having some kind of broth. Once you have broth, you can’t go back.

I love shabu shabu because I always feel so healthy eating it! With the shabu shabu sets you can choose your type of protein(beef, pork, or seafood) & it comes with a plate of veggies, 2 prices of tofu & udon all for $ 15 during dinner. My go to is the beef set! The food cooks quite quickly so it’s easy to eat & go if you’re in a hurry, but I like to take my time & catch up with whoever I go with. The sauces really keep me coming back! There are 3 sauces to choose from: Ginger, ponzu & sesame. Plus you can add as much shredded daikon & green onions as you like! I’m literally drooling. I love the ginger sauce it pairs with my food so well. The service is pretty good since they are usually attentive. If you come during peak dinner time be prepared to wait! Oh I also found out that they don’t do their stamp cards anymore =(

Been a while. Again, walked in with no res. around 6pm, but for just the two of us, were warmly greeted and accommodated on the counter. Went with the basic beef set and shrimp /beef combo for dinner and can’t go wrong. Make a reservation because by the time we left on a Saturday evening, the place was packed. Simple healthy eating at a reasonable price!

The quality of food was above average. Waitresses were kind, but was under staffed. Not worth it for the price.

Good shabushabu. The beef plate was only 15 dollars! They serve udon noodles which I was bummed they wouldn’t substitute ramen instead.

I’ve patronized this place since inception(always forgot to check in due to being excited to enjoy the offerings here) and I’m happy to have witnessed its evolution. The décor has changed for the better, lending to a relaxed and hipster atmosphere. Very family friendly; great for date night as well. Parking is always available and the price is always right.

This was my second time coming to a shabu shabu restaurant that allows you to concoct your own broth from scratch. I thoroughly enjoyed making my own spicy broth and combined it with the combo pork and beef set. The format was set fairly simple; you pick a set and you can opt to start from scratch or get a specific broth. From there, you add your veggies and meat and go for it. The servers will help you if you have questions and they also check to make sure that your burner isn’t set too high. But first time cooks beware. Lol. I think you might want to ask for some help if you’ve never had shabu shabu before. The servers are welcoming and good at helping you make decisions. Add a side of alcohol if you’re lf age! You won’t regret it :)

Great sukiyaki and sabu sabu. Out of venison but the tongue and ribeye were great. The sets had less udon than we hoped for. Sukiyaki broth was not salty. I gad great variety of sauces to goose my sabu.

I’ve loved this place for several years, but my last visit the other weekend was a little disappointing. 1. Their signature ginger sauce recipe may have changed, not for the better :(this was one of the main reasons I’d go here 2. The advertised 10% off meal: they do honor, but CHECKYOURTABCAREFULLY! I’ll give the waitress who rung me up the benefit of the doubt & say she was on autopilot & didn’t take off the discount … Because by the time I realized I hadn’t gotten charged correctly, it wasn’t worth it to go back & say something *major thumbs down.

First time here, small and hard to get parking when lot is full. Pretty expensive for shabu shabu. Server was good coming to see of we were ready to order. But once we ordered that’s why the service stopped, we ordered to broths, shoyu and regular. A combination plate and some veggies.(Small plate of veggies is 5.50) they brought our shoyu broth first and then all our food came out. We waited about half an hour for the second soup and had to ask where it was… they forgot… they wanted us to pay 5 $ fir just boiling water. The portion sizes are really small(side dishes) and not worth the price. No one came to check on us the whole time we were eating. If we needed something we had to either call them or get it ourselves. Only towards the end they kept coming to see if we were don’t or needed anything cleared. As if they were trying to push us out.(It wasn’t even busy at all) Wouldn’t decide to come here if I had the choice. Also the raw egg is 1 $ and it is a small size

So I’ve been coming here for a while, and though it’ll always have a place in my heart for introducing me to shabu shabu, their quality is going down. Their menu has more than doubled in options since we originally started eating there, but that’s about it. The slices of beef were too thin this time around. It was to the point where they were hard to separate the pieces from each other and just easier to cook the clumped pieces together. The skimming ladles/spoons have been consolidated into new plastic ones that don’t do a great job of skimming fat or whatnot from the top layer of the bowl. Service was still decent; they came when asked, though forgot my drink and gave my wife the wrong sized order. Lastly, as Unilocal has become so big, a good rating means more to business. Next to our table was a sign offering an extra stamp(for their stamp card) if you gave them a 5-star rating. It just came off as a cheap little bribe. Maybe it’s me. I have been a little swayed maybe by Hot Pot Heaven or Sweet Home Café. This past visit to Shabu Shabu House did underwhelm me though.

Shabu Shabu House has been one of my favorite restaurants since my first visit with my Aunty in eighth grade. Eleven years and many other hot pot restaurants later, Shabu Shabu House is still my absolute favorite. The only thing that’s changed is that I now eat the vegetables. The menu keeps growing; they have a special dinner set that comes with king crab, other seafood and meat. I haven’t tried this yet, but soon! Also, they have a fantastic lunch special… I always get the beef set, only $ 10.47!

Some people have a misconception about what is Shabu-shabu, because nowadays there are a variety of different restaurants that serve food in a boiling pot. Some restaurants may have hot water(such as, Shabu Shabu House) boiling in a pot or a selection of broth(example, nabe style) boiling in a pot, but here at Shabu Shabu House they set an excellent example of the«traditional» Japanese Shabu-shabu style of cooking(boiling in hot water). The Shabu Shabu Set had a pretty good portion of meat, assorted veggies, udon, and your choice of rice(white or brown). We got the beef($ 15.95) and the pork($ 15.95) set. Also, they provide a veggie set called the Veggie«DETOX» Set for $ 23.95 + tax. This is a must get if you don’t eat meat, or want to eat healthy, or just feel like just eating veggies. It’s super healthy and pretty filling, and it comes with your choice of rice(brown or white). Other choices: If you don’t like the«traditional» style of Shabu-shabu(free), you can order their variety of soup base, but with a small charge($ 2.95-$ 4.95). Free side dipping sauces: 1) Ponzu, 2) Sesame, and 3) Ginger. Parking: Street parking on Kapiolani Street, or in the building in the back of the restaurant(workers said that they validate up to 2 hours?). Tips: 10% off dinner when you check in to the restaurant with Unilocal. Also, before you head down to the restaurant, you might wanna call to see what kinds of specials they have for the day. Example: Muscle Monday’s — men get FREE large upgrade; Tasty Tuesday’s — FREE soup base; Ladies Wednesday’s — ladies 10% off dinner set; Thirsty Thursday’s — alcohol beverage $ 1 off; Fatass Fridays — FREE large upgrade when you order… etc. Why 4 stars and not 5 stars? Service was okay, not the greatest customer service, although, the lady at the front was extremely kind/friendly and inviting(that made the experience really nice, so much mahalo’s to her). And the overall food, price and environment was really nice. Will I come here again? Most certainly! ;) **My information of this restaurant that I have provided is from the best of my knowledge. Please view the website of the restaurant for accurate informations, such as prices, details, etc.

Came here around 5:30PM on Tuesday night with my auntie, her son and his family. We had reservation so when we arrived there was only one other table dining in. The table that they put us at was so cramped and uncomfortable because it was stuck between the wall and the glass door. They have a pretty poor set up for their seating arrangement. We ordered a good amount of food for 4 adults and one child. They have the meats in sets, which comes with vegetables. The meat and veggies were good, as were the seafood. Although I wasn’t the one who paid the bill, I’d have to say that it’s over priced for the amount of food you get. Even their ice cream is $ 5 per scoop. I was pretty disappointed by the fact that they give you plain hot water to boil your meat and veggies in so everything is pretty flavorless. They give you all the sauce to make yourself so you can adjust it to your personal taste. The sauce definitely helped with the flavoring, but I would much prefer to have flavored broth to boil my meat in instead of hot water. Probably won’t be coming back here again…

I am a shabu shabu newbie, but I’ve had my share of nabe so I thought I knew what to expect. I was wrong. First off, you cook your veggies and meat in water here and you don’t get to choose a type of broth. It makes for really clean eating and I was happy to give it a try. You can’t go wrong with their $ 10 lunch special which gives you a choice of beef, pork, or beef and pork and comes with set veggies, udon, and white or brown rice. My favorite dipping sauce is sesame, but they’ve also got ponzu and ginger. You can also add on a number of other veggies or food items to customize your meal. This place is great for a casual lunch. The not so pleasant smell of(I’m guessing) organic dandelions kind of threw me off when I first entered. Service was friendly, but understaffed. Validated parking is available in the building.

I vowed to never return after my last visit, but gave them another chance since ownership changed hands in late 2014. Sanitation seems to have improved a little(they no longer wash dishes in the hand sink in back of the counter area), although they still have a weird musty smell in the restaurant. Could be that they just don’t have a good ventilation system, which is a must for any hot pot/shabu shabu restaurant since there is so much steam and moisture from all the cooking on the tables. The best thing about this place is the $ 10 lunch special. You get assorted veggies(bok choy, a slice of kabocha, enoki mushrooms, tofu, chinese cabbage, udon, and your choice of beef, pork, or beef & pork. Includes brown or white rice. The veggies and meat were good, and the ponzu sauce goes well with everything. It’s a great deal, but it’s not a very comfortable ambiance because of the smell and the heat. Service was on the slow side, esp. when it came to paying the bill. Parking was validated but upon exiting I was charged $ 1.
