So shave ice itself is really good and the flavors are nice but I could not believe the service. It was appalling. When my friend questioned the size and asked for a smaller size the girl said«well this is the size that’s how it is and I’m not making it smaller because I’ve already put the ice in the cup so do you want the shave ice or not?» She actually said that. We all looked at eachother and the cashier looked back at the snow cone maker and gave her a look like«calm down girl» I mean It’s just ice for pete’s sake. She had such a bad attitude with every line that came out of her mouth wether we were talking got her or not. I ordered the small and there is absolutely no way to eat that without the cup and they make you pay extra for the cup and refused to put my order in a bowl when a asked. The same girl said«well if you were getting all the extras, we would give you a bowl but because you just got shave ice with ice cream no; you can’t have a bowl» and the cashier said«it won’t fall as long as you hold it very still and straight; you have to be very careful» so who wants to eat like that. I’m no genius snow cone eater or anything but I have studied physics and those tiny paper cones with all that shave ice; well there is no way to eat it without a cup. Good thing my friend got me the cup because as soon as I walked outside it started melting into a drink. No cup would have meant it would melt all over me. Sooo just give people the cups or use bigger paper cones. Most important; don’t be rude to my friend!!!

Happened to have lunch at Rainbow drive in next door and saw Shimazu. First time here; we always go to their other place on N School St. No waiting when we ordered. And how nice, they have AC and inside seating :-) The syrups seemed a bit sweeter than the original store but were still good. I did come across«white» in the shave ice. That’s a no-no. Went back and had the cherry cola syrup topped off and all was fine.

Huge size. Nice service. Flavors are a bit too artificial compared to other places in the island.

You can reuse the cup holders! DONTTHROWTHEMAWAY! I love this place way better than their other location it looks way cleaner and the people are nicer here. The shaved ice is awesome like usual. This location is so nice because you can go grab a plate lunch and then get shaved ice afterwards. It’s so amazing they don’t charge tax so it’s exactly how much it says on the board. My favorites are the cream flavors because it tastes like the condensed milk is already inside of the syrup!

After a long day at the beach this was an awesome way to cool down. The shaved ice was light and fluffy and they had tons of flavors to choose from. Awesome experience!!!

Really chill and laid back. It’s in the same building as Hawaii’s Kitchen, while you’re here grab a waffle dog before getting your Hawaiian Ice! Abundant selection of flavors, even some stinky Asian fruit you have to try… outside…then throw away… outside before they will put it on your icy!

This Shimazu’s Shave Ice is part of Hawaii’s Favorite Kitchens, located on Kapahulu Ave(let’s say it’s close to Rainbow’s Drive-Inn). The other location is on School St so I am really glad for this location since it is close to where I live. There are over 30 flavors(actually I didn’t count them all but I’ll post a pic) and the portions are huge! You can choose up to 3 flavors and I suggest their signature flavors like Ice Crème Vanilla and Peanut Butter Chocolate Crème. The kid size is like softball size, the small is almost double that, the large is bigger, then there’s an X-large which has to be in a big bowl!!! It’s nuts! Recommend to share! Unless it’s a really hot day then all to yourself! :D Each serving can be served with ice cream, Mochi balls, and/or Azuki beans. Then it can be topped with condensed milk, haupia cream, or ling hi mui(for those who don’t know, it’s a fruity sweet and really sour powder). Try them all!!!

First off let me say that the shave ice here is as big as someone’s head! No, I’m serious! When we went they were out of the cup holder things so we did end up making a mess on the table. I tried the crème brûlée flavor and it’s soooo good! Yes, I got ice cream and mochi balls(squares) in the bottom! Who wouldn’t? The mochi was a nice texture and the fact that it was squares made it taste a little different than my favorite waiola shave ice. The ice was shaved just how I like it! Nice and fine, like snow! They give a hearty portion of extras inside the shave ice. Another plus to coming here is that they have an inside seating area that is in air conditioning! Yay for my shave ice not melting more than it has to! The staff was nice and helpful especially when we needed extra napkins to clean up our mess on the table :) Rainbows drive in is nearby so you can grab a bite to eat and then get some yummy dessert here! And yes I cheated a little bit and scraped off some of my shave ice so I could get to the goods!

Delish super refreshing in this heat. You have to get the plastic cup holder. The paper cup is a bad idea. Enjoy

We recently learned on the grapevine about this new Shimazu location and decided to stop by for Hawaiian shave ice. They are located in the same building as Poke Stop and other local eateries to establish a one-stop, dine, snack, and dessert destination. The premise looked spanking new with a front counter, overhead menu, and small tables for those who wish to hang out. They have about 80 flavors with the kid size or a small cup starting at $ 4 that ends with the extra large at $ 12. I tried the Small Shave Ice that came in a plastic cone stacked with my choice of Red Velvet Crème, Watermelon, and Taro Crème flavors covered generously with condensed milk and a dollop of azuki beans at the bottom. The texture of the shave ice was easy to spoon into, with the resounding flavors, the frozen whole milk, and condensed milk drizzles to round out the sweetness. The best flavor was the Red Velvet Crème followed by the Taro, as the frozen milk added depth to the flavors that persisted to the sweet azuki beans. There were some unexpected remnants of Li Hing flavor embedded in the Watermelon, but otherwise it was still refreshing and addictive. Santi had the Small Taro and Green Tea Shave Ice with red beans at the bottom. The Green Tea carried a deepening but non-bitter flavor. The Taro was even more distinctive than the Crème version I had. Comparatively, I thought the flavor on the former reverberated while the the ladder was more subtle with a crème-inspired backdrop without that full-bodied finish. The owner was very kind to let us sample both Taro flavors, and with some refinement, I thought both were ready to be added onto the menu. Service was responsive, quick, friendly, and personable. I thought the serving on the small was already humongous, so I don’t know how much effort it will take to finish the extra large. One of these days I may have to go all out and try other flavors such as Melon Bar Crème, Lychee, and Root Beer Float with mochi and ice cream bottoms. Cash only.

Watch out waiola, they will give you a run for your money… This place was the same or even better than the place down the street. My son enjoyed the shaved ice that was like snow. Yummy yum yum! Close to the places I like to go to Leonard’s, rainbow and side street café. If you agree with me this is a place you would try too.

If you’re going to Rainbow drive in, you might as well come here. This is one of my favourite shave ice places on the island. It’s hard not to be overwhelmed with all the flavor choices. But I can say that the banana foster, milk tea royale, and vanilla flavors were really good! Do yourself a favor and get the condesned milk and ice cream too. The smallest size is a kids which is still big enough to share between two people. Cash only.

They have pretty much all the same flavors from the original store on School st. but there are places to sit, a parking lot, and most importantly A/C! The flavors I tried were lychee, lilikoi, and the melon bar which were all on point. I will definitely be back to try their other flavors! *** I gave this place 4 stars because they only take cash… even though the plate lunch restaurant they share space with accepts credit cards…
