The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii
I just came back from an event with PBS Hawaii and The Nature Conservancy of Hawaii for a free screening of an upcoming episode of the PBS series, EARTH A New Wild. Entitled «Oceans,» the hour-​long episode reveals how scientists, engineers and fishermen can help restore our threatened oceans at Protohub that included a talk-​story session with special guests from The Nature Conservancy and other organizations about EARTH A New Wild: «Oceans» where they did research and reporting from one of the most remote coral atolls on Earth (Palmyra Atoll).
Why do I preface it with an event presented by Nature Conservancy?
Because — In general– scientists stick to the field because they are horrible with live real people that are just normal Americans. But here is a chance for them to shine in an environment that highlights some of the important work and translates it to a wider audience.
Nature Conservancy is able to work towards understanding our Pacific Ocean better and make it relevant to people’s lives here in Hawaii. The staff is really passionate about their work. It is just so difficult to translate that passion into something like a 30 second bite that can get into the minds of those that have super busy lives terrestrially.
The smartest thing also that I have ever seen in a ice-​breaker or new thing for a group of people getting introduced to a new non-​profit was that they had name tags with the website of where they want you to go to when you go home so that you can keep in touch with them. So it isn’t wasted and thrown away and people don’t have to write an extra something down– I thought that was so smart. — Just an aside.

the staff here in HI was on hand at the event I went to and from the passion that exuded from them — I can just tell that they are willing and eager to get in-​front of as many people as they can to share about different Nature Conservancy initiatives.
There is an option to donate to their causes– many of their causes helps in both research and buying up land to set up wildlife refugees.

A big kudos for these people who try their damndest to help conserve nature. You can do your part by donation money or your time to the cause!
